March 15th: Wednesdayton confirmed!

They better reveal some hot games, like, say... wouldn't a PS3 version of Untold Legends be really nice? One can only dream, I guess..

I love going to bed, waking up the next day and going to work to read the insanity that has brewed from at least 3 hours of people talking about a big announcement. I hope for a mix of great and terrible news, for maximum hilarity.

:lol This time last week we were gasping for anything on PS3, and now you're demanding US and European launch plans in the next 24 hours?

Yes! I want my PS3 damn it!! :D

Actually if they just announced the US info and held off on the Euro announcement until next year that'd be fine with me too. :P

Sorry Europe-Age. I've got nothing but love for ya but I do not envy your position one bit when it comes to hardware releases. Especially Sony hardware releases.

I'm predicting at least four "turn in your coats" threads.

quotes from tomorrow :

"September isn't _that_ bad... the PSP line up is awesome anyways!"
"$499 is still way better value than the X360"
"At least the hdd is standard! Fuck you Xbots"
"I told you Killzone was realtime"
"I told you Killzone was rendered"

:lol

Setting my alarm to 8 AM, I think some news should have leaked out by then. :)

What I hope to see:

* King Ken showing a working PS3 unit.
* King Ken showing off OS functions (I really want to see what multimedia functions the PS3 offers)
* The "new" controller
* The online plan or a preview of it.
* Some new games, perhaps launch games (they have to save something for E3), WarHawk, Lair, whatever the Japanese devs have planned for the launch etc. No more target renders. :)
* Information on when PSP Connect launches, + other info on the new firmware.

GAF will explode, considering what happened when Microsoft announced their 'pricepoints'.

I'm not sure price is certain at all. Sure, Sony announced PS2's price 6 months in advance of launch, but they waited till about a month before launch for the PSP price. They've said before that PS3's price likely won't be decided till the latest possible moment..

It's worth noting they didn't even give a PSP release date till a month in advance o_0. So we could still just get a more general, non-specific launch window tomorrow (albeit an updated, delayed one).

Speculation of a pushed-back fall launch is so boring... let's cross fingers for a May JPN release instead. :D

Exactly. Fuck delay news, they need to launch the system in Japan ASAP. We don't even know if the Japanese companies are ready or not but I think they are -_-

Hah... well I just learned a new bit of information regarding or new friend Boxguy.

Months ago, he was scheduled to reveal himself on the 15th. The fact that it's the same exact day as the PlayStation 15th event is completely by coincidence. Duhhrr... :lol Of course I didn't know that little detail the other day.

From the sound of it, only a handful of devs are ready. But who knows? Insiders have been wrong before.

Wow, pretty crazy coincidence. Although there goes the idea that publishers or SCEA/SCEE were readying game announcements to coincide with this conference..

Only PowerPoint slides confirmed!

A handful of devs is all that's ever been ready at a console launch...

What we don't know is when they decided to push back the February confererence. Maybe it had already happened when UTL NDAs were signed?

Aren't more NDAs supposed to expire throughout March?

EDIT:

A handful of devs is all that's ever been ready at a console launch...

That's debatable. I was also referring more to the months following the launch. I'd be OK with an post-launch drought though, as long as the initial batch was of high quality like it was with the PSP.

If this conference was originally planned to be in February as everyone expected, then these separate pub announcements would still have been timed for after that.

some more details

PlayStation 3 Day Nears

Sony could be less than 24 hours away from making a formal announcement about PlayStation 3, including timing of launch and price.

Sony, characteristically, is remaining highly secretive about the announcement. The meeting was to be attended only to developers but has now been opened up to analysts and journalists.

Ken Kutaragi will front the briefing in Tokyo at 3:00 p.m. local time (late night / early hours in the U.S.).

Yuta Sakurai, a senior analyst with Nomura Securities told Reuters, "These events typically address platform strategy, loyalty structures, development-related plans and other details that aren't as interesting to us, but the fact that they opened the meeting up raises the possibility that there might be more."

It's hoped that the machine's new launch schedule and pricing will be unveiled as well as some details of its online service - revealed here some weeks ago - which will offer consumers the ability to play online as well as downloading free and paid interactive and non-interactive content. The most likely scenario is a sub-$500 price and a late 2006 launch date.

It's not known how much information will be released regarding the U.S. launch. Given the probability that Sony is facing a number of problems with its launch, the company may be forced to release as little information as possible. It will also seek to hold back some information for E3.

Next Generation will have full details as they emerge.

Maybe the 15th was the latest time they could schedule this PlayStation conference for, in light of the pre-arranged announcements due for PS3 titles.

I don't think what we're getting tomorrow is what they were initially planning for Feb. Things no doubt have changed.

I think what we see at the conference is what we'll get - I doubt there'll be seperate announcements by publishers. HOWEVER, if a solid launch date is announced - and that may still be a big if - I expect it would pave the way for publishers, particularly Japanese publishers, to independently kick-start promotion of their PS3 games in the coming weeks and months.

Probably not, but that doesn't change the likelihood that pubs have probably been planning their announcements to start sometime around the official re-unveiling of the PS3. In other words, I don't think the timing of the UTL announcement is coincidence.

meeting is at 06:00 am in sweden!

what will happen:

Price: 399$
PS3 is an awesome machine and that Cell is the most powerful thing ever, it can control every nuclear missile in the entire world if put in the wrong hands so middle eastern countries get a retardpack bundle with only 50% use of cells power

and finally Kutaragi ends his speech with

Well, the PS2 price drop seems to have been confirmed already!
Some retailers are listing the PS2+FFXII bundle for 24,000 while it would usually retail for around 29,000. Since it goes on sale on Thursday, many are speculating that a 5000 yen price drop will be announced tomorrow - i.e. the PS2 will cost 15,000 yen.

A Japanese PS2 pricedrop is overdue IMO, but at least it's finally coming.

Hmmm, I wonder if we'll see a pricedrop in the west following suit. Also, perhaps a PSP price drop will happen soon too?

PSP pricedrop? lol...

Heh, yeah Sony will probably announce the PSP w/ 4gig flash memory for $299 or $349. :/

I think Sony is just going to add more gear to the PSP to keep it at least $250.

Maybe I'm crazy, but didn't someone from Sony once say something to the effect of "PSP will never drop in price"? Maybe that is what they meant -- like the top-shelf iPods remaining at a certain price point, there will always be some configuration of the PSP that is $250.

can we please have a new thread for the actual announcement, so when I come into work tomorrow I don't have to play 'guess what page the news is on' like I often do with mac-age threads?

Aye, a new thread should be created when the conference starts, and ideally the original post updated with anything that comes through.
