In the segment-by-segment, Randy Orton & Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan & Kane gained 239,000 viewers in a segment that usually doesn’t do well. Santino Marella vs. David Otunga and the Undertaker/HHH/Shawn Michaels vignette lost 32,000 viewers. Eve Torres vs. Kelly Kelly lost 246,000 viewers. The C.M. Punk vs. Christian angle, Chris Jericho interview and Brodus Clay vs. Curt Hawkins in the top of the hour segment gained 132,000 viewers to a 2.96 rating which is terrible for the 10 p.m. quarter. Big Show vs. Primo lost 104,000 viewers. Mark Henry vs. Great Khali and the Team Teddy vs. Team Johnny complete teams angle gained 362,000 viewers which is very good. The Rock/Cena show close gained 626,000 viewers which is again nothing special for the overrun, closing at a 3.57.

The “Once in a Lifetime” Countdown show for Rock vs. Cena did a 1.47 rating and 2.13 million viewers. That’s way down from what NCIS does in that slot, actually a little more than half of NCIS. But Countdown shows never do big numbers. Their value in boxing and MMA has been the ability to convert viewers into PPV buyers. It’s roughly double what UFC has done for its biggest Countdown shows such as the ones for Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir and Quinton Jackson vs. Rashad Evans, which were its most successful shows of that type.

WWE had a mandatory meeting before Raw on 3/26 to talk about proper use of twitter. Punk outright then wrote on twitter “Shoot me” about the meeting. Jericho then posted a photo of himself looking either bored or uncomfortable at the meeting (which he later took down). At the meeting, it came across like Vince was obsessed with being able to claim that WrestleMania was the social media event of the year. The meeting was all about hashtags and not one thing was mentioned about putting on a good show or having good matches on the show.

One of the reasons Rock is doing more pro wrestling is that he’s changed his management team. His old team looked at him as Dwayne Johnson and wanted to get him away from thought of as The Rock. His new team is headed by ex-wife Dany Garcia, as well as business manager Howard Altman of the William Morris Agency and the PR firm Rogers & Cowan. Garcia gave up her former Wealth Management Business in Miami to become the full-time manager and CEO of Team Rock, with Johnson listed as the CEO, with the goal of instead embracing The Rock name, which means using it in the movies and keeping it alive with pro wrestling. After WrestleMania, Johnson will be doing “Hercules: The Thracian Wars,” “Pain and Gain,” “Empire State” and “Fast Six,” which isn’t going to leave much down time for pro wrestling. He would likely only do SummerSlam if he does anything else this year, before next year’s Mania, which is he committed to. Johnson and Garcia are also going to develop their own movies and TV projects in a new company called 7 Bucks Entertainment. That 7 Bucks Entertainment name is based on the fact that when Johnson signed his first WWF contract in 1996 after his career as a football player ended, he had $7 to his name. Johnson said he’s been wanting to produce shows for a long time.

The Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen middleweight title fight was officially announced this week for 6/23 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil at Joao Havelange Stadium.

The show had been originally earmarked for 6/16 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, but due to a noise ordinance in the city, they were unable to run in that city. Due to the time difference at it having to air live at 10 p.m. Eastern time in North America, the show won’t end until about 3 a.m. This means the company will be running Rio de Janeiro for the third time in ten months.

Estadio Olimpico Joao Havelange holds 46,000 for soccer. Keep in mind that a UFC set-up with screens and such if they do what they do in an indoor stadium would cut down on capacity, but they can also increase by adding seats on the floor. The stadium has a track surrounding the soccer field, so the stands would be farther away from the cage as compared to a usual U.S. stadium set up for football. That would enable more seats to be put on the floor, but also have the audience farther from the action. Also, unlike most promoters who would just fill the bottom with chairs and really the site lines for the most expensive seats wouldn’t be that good, when UFC ran Toronto, in order to provide the best viewing, they brought in bleachers. But in bringing in risers for the floor seats, that meant they couldn’t sell the lower rows on the first deck because the view would be blocked. There was no word on how UFC would set up the stadium, but they are already pushing that they will have more people at this show than they did in Toronto, as Dana White said they would get 60,000 to 80,000 people to the show.

Two other fights announced are Wanderlei Silva vs. Vitor Belfort, a rematch of a 1998 fight in Sao Paulo that Belfort won in 44 seconds via knockout. Silva and Belfort are coaches on the current season of TUF Brazil, which airs on Globo, the leading network in Brazil, in a Sunday night prime time slot. In addition, the TUF Brazil show’s finals, which will be a middleweight and a featherweight tournament championship fight, will also both be on this show. The show will likely do UFC’s biggest ever ratings in Brazil, and the hope is that it would be the biggest UFC PPV event since the Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez fight.

.......WWE announced it would be debuting in both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo next month.

--TMZ.com reported today that Kamala is facing the possible amputation of his right foot. His son today said that doctors will determine on Friday whether they need to remove the right foot, after he had his last foot removed last year due to issues with diabates. Best wishes to him during this period.

--On Twitter, you can buy what is called a Promoted Tweet. You pay Twitter so that if someone searches for a specific item, your Twitter account will always be the first result. TNA this week bought the following terms: WWE, Wrestlemania, Wrestling, C.M. Punk, John Cena, The Rock, HHH, Undertaker, Chris Jericho, Kane, Randy Orton and Sheamus.

--Maria Menounos today wrote that she is actually suffering from two broken ribs. At the WWE press conference, Beth Phoenix made a mention of it. She is still scheduled to wrestle on Sunday but it's likely she's going to be very limited in what she can do.

--New Japan announced that Tomoaki Honma has been released. Honma had an incredible match, a match of the year candidate in December against Masato Tanaka for their Intercontinental title and he was one of the most underrated in-ring performers in the business.

The biggest lesson learned was no more year long feuds. The Rocks return last year was red hot. Ratings were high, Promos were great, and everyone was marking for a Rock/Cena confrontation. Problem was he was only a fucking host and lead to quite possibly the worst booking in a WM title match since WM9.

Everything this year is the opposite. Rocks return is not as hot as last year. Promos were extremely weak to mediocre considering its the fucking Rock that's the biggest disappointment. Ratings decreased and a lot of people lost interest in a Rock/Cena match for being cock teased so much.

The only thing that surprises me is the event not selling out. I can only assume that 1. not that many fans want to travel to miami 2. ticket prices or 3. Florida not being a big wrestling state. Supposedly WM24 had 74k though so maybe people would rather watch it on tv then go to the event? Guess we'll find out when the buyrate comes in.

Anyways, i can give a shit about ratings and buyrates. I'm just hoping for an awesome show.

Damn that picture I got with Lawler was blurry.

The movie sucked btw. Not even Lawler could save it, and he was actually decent in his small role.

There was one moment that I hope we get a gif of in the end though....

Going in, everyone expected, not just because the show was in Miami, where Rock has lived on-and-off since playing college football for the Miami Hurricanes, that Cena would be booed out of the building like never before. He’s never faced anyone with Rock’s popularity. And at WrestleMania, where the percentage of adult males who travel from around the world is large, Cena always gets booed heavily anyway. And that’s not what the company wants. They want the money the match could bring, but they never heightened emotions past a certain level. They didn’t want fans to choose one or the other. They wanted them to choose both, which is very tricky, when the audience had already chosen.

dumbest thing I've ever read lol.

So has it been discussed here at WrassleGAF how apparently The Pope and Balls Mahoney are engaged in a social media war with New Jack and Marty Jannety?
