Mario 128 not for Gamecube afterall? Final version of Zelda at E3.

I think there needs to be a combination of a lot things being said. The style is certainly important, but also think WW disappoint many Japanese gamers. Their triforce quest was worst than ours, forcing Nintendo to change it during localization.

gameplay doesn't factor in as much when talking about the popularity of a japanese game. some of the most crappy titles sell alot (ei.e., naruto series)

i think it has more to do with Link losing popularity as a character with each passing year. Probably the fans are getting older and losing interest.

I Put it thru the reality translator:

"We may show a Zelda video at E3 with up to 30% new footage"

err no, both Miyamoto and Aounuma have said that the new Zelda is playable at E3. Expect a Zelda blowout that easily exceeds 30% new footage.

i don't think they'll be showing or talking about Revolution much. Link is their big thing for this E3.

First time I agree with you. Nintendo might setup Spaceworld to show off or talk about Revolution.

The term "Mario 128," by the way, is just a tentative name based on the game's theme.

The game's theme huh. Sounds an awful lot like this game will not be a standard platformer like Shine but be something like that old Mario 128 demo. People say that Pikmin = Mario 128 Demo in game form, but why couldn't the demo become more than one game?

- He has a working prototype with even Luigi running there

Wasn't this back in the N64 days about Mario64 2? I'm pretty sure that all that talk about people thinking Luigi was the main character if they saw the game was about Luigis Mansion. And the speculation about Mario64 2 beeing in production since way back is just nonsense. "Hey, let's do a half assed Mario game with a 'gimmick' and release it while we work on the almighty Mario128 which will be the REAL game!". That way they can say to the fans that this wasn't the real deal everytime a game fails to score 10's all over the place.

People should stop bugging developers about what they want and let them create whatever they like. Dropping the cel-shading because of fanboy cries was about the worst thing Nintendo could ever do. Now they will never shut up.

I thought Super Mario 64 2 turned into basically Super Mario Sunshine. A spin-off Luigi game HAD to be in the works because, if you remember in Super Mario 64 at the inside castle courtyard, there was wording on the fountain that said "Luigi is alive in 2000" or 2001 or something, and that is when Luigi's Mansion came out. Wasnt Super Mario 128 something very different in terms of a Mario game. Super Mario Sunshine didn't feel completely un-Mario to me...

I think it's pretty clear that anything Luigi had to contribute toward SM64 is now on the DS. SMS had no signs of our favorite green plumber. :(

*sigh*, the wording on the fountain is just people with too much time on their hand. It does not say "Luigi is alive in 2000/2001."

e3 next year is going to be a pain.

hopefully I can attend.

I would like to try out the new zelda, but I'm sure i'll have to wait +2hours.

Mario 128 can stay on Gamecube. Revolution should get a port of SMS for launch.

No, you got it all wrong. SMS port/remake will come out for DS SP 2. That's going to be right around the time Microsoft announces that they'll be entering the portable market.

That is suicide IMO, they need to show Revolution at E3. When the magazines hit the casuals, all they will hear about is PS3 and Xenon. Nintendo needs to get the mainstreams hyped.

All they need to do is wait and see what the ps3 and xenon can do. Then basically say we can do double that and show some pretty renders :D

I believe Nintendo pretty clearly said visuals would not be the focus of the Revolution. I do not think they'd wait to see the Xenon and PS3 so that they could enhance Revolution's power. For one, that'd create an extra expense for Nintendo when Nintendo wants to release a system where it doesn't bleed money like Sony and Microsoft.

:lol :lol :lol

They should take a page out of Sony's How to Hype a Console book and issue press releases detailing how it can launch and guide thermonuclear warheads. Also Show a pre-rendered ballroom dance scene with Link and Zelda.

They've been "experimenting" for how many fucking years now? Have they just locked a single Japanese male in a cellar and told him to brainstorm? What would take so God-damned long?

Seems like the game's nature and direction is contingent on Nintendo's success. So I think they'll just push it to the Revolution, unfortunately.

Better have 8+ FULL dungeons

You're damn right it better. 6 at the very, very least. Ocarina of Time had a very nice amount (9- and then some minidungeons). I wouldn't mind 6 if they are as well designed as MM's though.

I think the two that didn't make it into TWW have been pushed into this game, so hopefully that was done early on, leaving the dev team time to create 6 extra ones..

If the overworld is as compelling as it was in TWW, I don't think I want that many dungeons. The parts I enjoyed the LEAST in TWW actually were the dungeons, while the overworld itself was just a joy to explore.

Too many people.

Which is why we all RUN to the Nintendo booth as the doors open (like everyone did last year :lol)

Note: I didn't run, but mostly everyone else in line did. I was too busy soaking in the whole atmosphere of my first E3 and taking free magazines. :)

The problem with mario as I see it is that it's a lot limited what you can do with a 3D platformer that hasn't been don before.

Just make it play like the original Mario platformers but in 3D, dammit. THAT is (unfortunately) something that has never been done before. They closest they've come is the non-waterpack levels of Mario Sunshine, and they were BY FAR the best part of the game.

I agree 100%. They were fun as hell. Too bad the rest of the game wasn't nearly as good.

2 Mario games in 10 years is pretty pathetic.

Sometimes I wonder whether those non-waterpack levels were thought of/created before the main premise of SMS or after?

Don't wish such evil on Zelda Real. If the overworld and traveling aspects of Zelda Real end up degrading into the boring and tedious excersize that WW became, I'll have to personally gut Miyamoto.

Zelda's currently scheduled to ship in the US in Q2 2005. While there's certainly the possibility of a delay, I'd say that release date means that a final playable version at E3 is pretty much certain.

As for Mario, I'd say there's probably a lot of smoke and mirrors going on. The simple fact is that there's going to be a total media blackout about Mario until the game is shown off, and up until that point all you'll hear are vague comments about "experiments." The day before E3 they'll still be talking about "experiments", and then at the press conference they'll show off an 80% complete version.

Wasn't that a missunderstanding from NoAs schedule? (That Zelda is due for Q2 in the US )

I don't mind, just gimme some new footage of the game, explaining night and day system, hud, villages, dungeons etc.

Oh yeah a Zelda+ Link dance scene ala FF8 would be nice. Didn't Aonuma say that they are going to show off Link and Zelda more emotionally? :D

Where did this Q2 talk come from? Didn't the press release say something like "Here's a bunch of games comming in Q2 2005... oh and Zelda is still in development."?

Exactly. Kobun Heat, I expected more from you :D

I'd like to see what they could do to develop Zelda's character after what they did in TWW (by making her a total bitch at the beginning and then basically dropping that whole idea :().

Link... I dunno. Would be kinda hard w/o talking unless it was like KOTOR with different responses.

You have no love of the ocean.

Zelda: Wind Waker is one of the most beautiful games ever made. And yet for all its beauty, by the time I was finished getting all the treasure boxes and that stupid triforce shard fetch quest, I just wanted to destroy Miyamoto :P

Well Zelda needs to be more involved imo. I am sure Nintendo can come up with some decent ideas between Link and Zelda.

Poor Miyamoto. The guy hasn't directed a game since OoT, yet he gets all the blame for TWW, SMS, LM, and Pikmin.
