I've always got a kick out of how the MG series scoreboards callback to the most random of enemies, I'll need to keep a closer eye on them here if the Whomp King apparently hit the links.
Seeing Spikes dotted around Castle Club makes me wonder why they've never gotten to be playable in any Mario spinoff, surely I'm not alone in liking those little guys.

Some of these star coin collector missions are brutal. They pretty much change the genre from golf to puzzle. I've completed all 10 challenges on both the Forest and Seaside courses.
I'm pretty disappointed in star Wario's stats. I expected him to be a heavy hitter but star Daisy is stronger than him.
I love Spikes too. I'd love to see one of them in a spin-off. I'm guessing the games with the highest chance of having them playable are Mario Baseball 3 and Mario Strikers 3.

How do I add communities to my favorites without playing a match?
Just add the community and press B once you're in the lobby.
I feel like I'm missing something with Star Coin Collector 2 on Seaside Course, even with Par 5.
So, first shot I get the Ice Flower, that's clear. But then what? I've tried both getting the ring and reaching the island with the Green in one shot - and getting in front of the ring (between the bunker and the water) and then shooting it through the ring to the other side.
First option, I land on the island but never get the coin. With the latter, I get the ring, but don't have the momentum to jump out of the water (using the Ice Flower).
Any tips?

Ignore the ice flower. On your first shot get into the rough in front of the coin and then shoot to the island.

Oh, right. -13 strat for that Mario-only tourney:
Hole 1) Hit your ball into the pipe on the right. Do a long putt for Eagle. Luckily it's hole 1 so you can keep on restarting until you get it.
Hole 2) Collect a mushroom and then use that to get to the green in 2 and putt for Eagle. Yes, you can use your existing mushroom, but you'll want to save that.
Hole 3) Bullet Bill and putt for Eagle. Done.
Hole 4 - 8) There's probably other stuff you can do to get at least an Eagle here but I haven't figured that out. So for now just play like a normal person and get all Birdies.
Hole 9) Get to green in 2, using your shroom if that's your thing, and putt for Eagle.
Haven't bothered to actually pull that off yet though.

Just did it using your method, thanks! I was getting on the rough before but had trouble with the subsequent shot, for some reason. Extra shot came in handy in the end, though.

In Castle Club, clearing the 9-hole version both unlocks Sky Island in Mario Golf mode - you have to do this to unlock the challenge that contains Diddy if you want his star character - and unlocks the 18-hole version of the challenge. Beating that gets you a costume. Dunno what it is though.
Beating it in Challenges - yes, they make you do it *again* because Camelot loves us so - gets you a star coin.
I'd love a Mario Baseball on 3DS. Rusty's Real Deal got me in the mood for a "true" goofy baseball game on 3DS.

Doing my handicap tournament and I'm two putting everything. I'm within a foot or two on so many of these. Much fun being had though. I will get back in the putting groove soon enough

Just beat the mountain tournament and got credits,is that it? Three courses for the single player campaign? I have no idea where to go next. I tried doing some online stuff but there's these coin games with no holes. The game does a piss poor job of explaining the progression and where to go next.

Eagled 1 just now doing an actual tournament and not handicap. I suddenly became amazing at game when I struggled a bit on the demo.

That's the main thing that's keeping me from trying it again.
I'm having so much fun with this game.
Sure the voices can get annoying (Wario yelling "come on come onnn COME ONNNNN" and Daisy repeating "I'm ready!" every five seconds is a pain in the ass) and I would appreciate it if you could just save your game during a course, switch off the 3DS and continue from there later on (if I remember correctly, you could do that on the GBC version). Also the game is missing some way to save our best shots and maybe even upload these little videos on Miiverse. Missed opportunity right here Camelot and Nintendo.
But these are minor complaints. There's ton of stuff to do, and the game feels complete, like full of content. There's even a glossary for golf terms, that's a nice touch!

Ok ok... I carry 15 clubs, take illegal drops, use my foot wedge from the trees when nobody's looking, grease my non-conforming driver face, and play with grooves that do not meet USGA specs.
Oh wait, you were talking about cheating at MARIO golf? Doh.
