Mario Kart 8 is the worst 3d mario kart

I read the whole post, and well...I agree that the battle mode is bad and that the graphics are great, but everything else? Just nope. I can't really explain why, I just look at all your complaints about the tracks and gameplay and I simply disagree. I love the tracks and I love the gameplay, including anti-gravity. It's a lot of fun to play, and the presentation (which includes the amazing soundtrack) is excellent.

I am a devout follower of Mariokartianity, a religion based on the teachings of Mario Kart. And this is me right now:

Nah. 8 is potentially best in the series, despite the worst battlemode. If it wasn't for that and the crappy roster, it wouldn't even be a contest, 8 would be so far ahead of all the other games.

Going to have to disagree as well. Aside from the Battle Mode missing arenas, this is my favorite MK in the series. Put close to 500 hours into it, and it's my go to game when I have short breaks in work, and in between other games.

I think the only thing I dislike is the roster and that 8 of them are Koopa kids.

But, the Mount Wario track exists so it can't be the worst.

Tracks Are Wide As Shit
fm6enlY.jpg

This is one of the biggest flaws of MK8. Every track in this game has the width of a god damn highway. It is an enormous contributing factor to the tracks all feeling bland and boring. It's really noticeable when you play retro tracks like peach's castle or yoshi's circuit (dlc track) and they are so much wider than they originally were, ruining the tightly designed nature of them and sapping the fun they elicit as an outcome. According to the developers, the tracks were given increased width because it needed to accommodate the space needed for 12 players racing simultaneously. I vehemently disagree with this design decision. During a race, you will never see 12 players racing side by side to warrant the need for all that additional room. Gee, the tracks in MKWii, which introduced 12 player racing, were normal sized and I never noticed a problem with space in between all the fun I was having. How did MKWii manage to do it?! Truly an answer in search of a problem.

Might be a memory issue from all the shells you've been hit with but MKWii was heavily derided for it's super-wide tracks.

Yikes, all the replies here.

I agree with OP for the most part, honestly. Although I'd definitely rank Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart Super Circuit a lot lower.

The only redeeming qualities of MK8 are the visuals and the music. The rest is serviceable at best. Except for Battle Mode.

EDIT: Mario Kart DS was the best one.

That's not MK Wii.

Seriously, MK8 is the second best in the series after Double Dash. The only thing I agree with you on is Battle Mode and the roster, the latter of which was somewhat made up for by the DLC.

I'll give you that it was a relatively conservative update and that the battle mode is dreadful but there'd have to be heaps more wrong with it to make it worse that Mario Kart 64 which is probably the only game in the series I outright disliked.

Outside of battle mode, I think it's great. My favorite Mario kart ever. To me the new tracks are actually great, I like the new use of items like the horn and boomerang, and I haven't experienced the issue of being stuck in the back and not being able to make a comeback. That being said, it might be (I'm assuming by the amount of games you've played) because you play competitively with really good people who never make mistakes. The people I play with occasionally bump into things or make bad turns which allows me to make a comeback.

Overall, what makes the game great to me the most is how it feels. The driving in general feels so much better than all the other 3D games. Anti gravity is also actually fun for me, cause those speed boosts feel great. Yeah it doesn't add much but bumping into people and getting a boost is really satisfying.

I'll give you the roster and battle mode, but otherwise it's basically my favorite Mario Kart since the first and possibly in my top 5 games of the gen so far. Just gloriously beautiful and fun.

I fully respect your opinion OP, but I couldn't disagree more. MK8 is personally one of my favorite Mario Karts of all time, if not my #1.

My biggest issue is the item balance. High level play use to exist in past Mario Karts, but at a certain point it doesn't matter, items ruin it. Wasn't he case in past Mario Karts.

I disagree with all your points. Not only is it the best 3D Mario kart but it's the best Mario Kart overall. It is also one of the best games ever made.

Well you had some good points, battle mode does suck.
The core racing is sublime however.

Cool Facts: Game of War has been a hit since July 2013
I personally think that Mario Kart Wii sucked the most, despite having great tracks. Still, my favourites are DS and 7, 8 didn't really do anything exciting.

I doubt half the people in this thread even read the OP though, he makes some good points.

So after 3300 online races + however many offline races, this is the conclusion that you came to?

I'm not that well-versed in Mario Kart to argue your opinion, but...
The way I see it, if you're willing to put over 200 hours into MK8, then you had to have put similar number of hours into every other MK game...right?

Otherwise....I don't know. I think you just might have nostalgia for the earlier games (which all have their own issues).

I'm hoping most actually read the post before commenting. But yeah, I actually agree with almost all of the points brought by the OP. Anti-gravity especially, which must be the most boring race gimmick ever.

The graphical presentation is much stronger than any game in the series to date, but that's about it. That said, you can still quote me on the site saying it's my favorite in the series. Huh. Presentation certainly goes a long way for the series, but maybe I should reconsider.

There are also no post-circuit parades. This makes for bonus negative points.

Battle Mode, maybe...but my friends still have a blast with it and ask to play that mode mostly when they come over.

But the rest? Best Mario Kart game at the moment.

So after 3300 online races + however many offline races, this is the conclusion that you came to?

I'm not that well-versed in Mario Kart to argue your opinion, but did you put a comparable amount of time into the other seven Mario Karts?

The way I see it, if you're willing to put over 200 hours into MK8, then you had to have put similar amounts of other hours into every other MK game...right?

Otherwise....I don't know. I think you just might have nostalgia for the earlier games (which all have their own issues).
And that too.
Over 2 years, and over 200 hours in a game that was disappointing seems like torture.

I'm getting trolled here, right? This can't possibly be the OP's true opinion. They're just messing with all of us, right?

...Right?!

I disagree wholeheartedly except for the comments about Battle Mode. I really don't get why they can't release a Battle-focused arena. It would change it from being the best one of the best kart racers to one of the best games (in general) of all time.

Most of the tracks are boring? well if this were a thread about Double Dash I'd understand but we're talking about MK8.

Item balance and battle mode are pretty sucky though I'd agree but that's all you're getting from me.

Sorry mang but MK8 is actually the best in the series.

I don't think any of your complaints about the gameplay really stick, and the ones that do (roster, battle mode) aren't that significant (to me).

I've played MK8 more than any other MK game ever, and that's saying something.

In Conclusion: The Game Fails On All Fronts
The fans of this game will try to defend it by saying the graphics are amazing, that there is so much content, that they thought the tracks were great, and that I suck at it and I'm bitter.

You forgot the actual argument: There is no other Mario Kart that plays this smoothly. The overall feeling of the karts is so well executed here. This is due in part due to the anti-grav mechanic enabling the bump-boosting. MK8 plays like butter and that's why I love it.

Let me first say that I respect you OP for going into detail about why you dislike the game. You clearly have a history with the series to point out particular things that bugged you about it in comparison the rest of the series, and that's a much more valuable than all the other "LTTP: this popular game sucks!" OPs that are like 3 or 4 lines of nothing.

That said

and I remember I'm saying with ALL DUE RESPECT

your OP aint worth a velvet painting of a whale and a dolphin gettin' it on.
