Jesus at that 7.5 NWR review. I don't care that he scored the game low-ish, but the review itself is abysmally written.
Good to hear since I am in the camp that Mario Kart DS is the best of the series. So refreshing to hear this after Mario Kart 7.I think I "know my Mario Kart" and this is really the best one since MK DS and probably the most balanced. Too bad for the absence of any new interesting mode and the worst battle ever!
Anyway, it was fun while it lasted LOL

That's exactly what it's like. Also makes it hard for very young players who're getting to grips with the controls.
For people who like to play local battle mode is definitely a major draw. Playing local battle with my friends is some of the most fun I have playing games. That Simon Parkin review is on another level entirely. Beautifully written.
Also, I didn't even know Battle Mode was a main attraction for some people. Strikes me as similar to showing up for Spelunky for the deathmatch.
Some reviewers are really badass online! André from Gamexplain is a beast!now this is how you make a review legit lol you own the charts![]()
Mario Kart DS is my favorite too! This is basically MK 7 a lot more polished with better tracks, I can't even think wich one is the best one!I'm glad to hear this. Mario Kart DS is my favourite in the series but I also know it had certain balance issues (mostly due to the karts not all accommodating snaking). Mario Kart Wii had poor item balancing, but then Mario Kart 7 improved things quite a bit, so I'm glad to hear Mario Kart 8 is potentially even more balanced.
I was never the biggest battle mode fan before, but it seems I'm the only one who thinks it being on actual stages is a lot better than on separate arenas.
Might as well post this:

It's such a shame they did what they did as I was really looking forward to the battle mode this time around. Hopefully some arenas are patched in at some point.
before I read any of these, let's lay down a rule I think we can all agree on: if you can't review this game without bringing up the Wii U's market position, you're probably a bad writer
Mmm, a month's worth of games media players time trials to beat.
well it is good Nintendo will not reset everything for the retail launch of the game
it does not really matter how long these guys had to play ahead of you, you are going to get the time you were going to get anyway based on your own skills and work on improving that over the months you will spend with the game
Because voice chat has been a multiplayer staple for years now.
Not being able to talk to your friends is just silly.
Oh then I think you can join friends from your Friends List in the Wii U OS.
Come now, he said that Mario Kart 8 is a fun game, but not one without stern looks while it passes through.
I meant to post that GIF because no one else did... usually, it would come up when a lower score was posted in a high scoring review thread.
I'm honestly fine with the review itself (after reading it over a few times).
You misundertand, I think. I like it because there are good player times to aim right from day one.
That's a good review validation. It should be used an alternative algorithm for Metacritic. Like: the best players scored it 9.2 while the sore losers gave it a 7.5./jk
Wondering if they might add classic battle mode arenas via DLC.
Pretty damn sure that the join friends feature doesn't actually work on 3DS or Wii U.
Mario kart 8 doesn't alow us to invite friends to play.
Why do Nintendo for stupid things like This?
I am mad hyped for the game though.
Knowing how well some Dutchmen can write in English, this isn't an excuse.
non of the reviews i've read so far mention any about the gamepad uses
imo the reviews should have docked points for no gamepad uses
here is a game where they could have done gamepad multiplayer (2 players, 1 on tv 1 ov gamepad)
what a waste
The "not an evolution" or "not revolutionary" comments in reviews irks me, to be honest. It's a kart racing game, nobody's reinventing the wheel, here.

NintendoWorldReview said:Mario Kart 8 is a fun game, but not one without stern looks while it passes through. The game looks and plays beautifully, but the Grand Prix racing feels quite redundant. They are alright to do in multiplayer and there are some options for you in there. Either way, you will be done with them pretty quick as the unlocks are not really spread out. As a solo person, Time Trials and online will be the places where it will truly matter for you. These options are quite fine and seriously well put together to have a go with your mates. The decisions with the Balloon Battle are questionable though and the Wii U GamePad doesn't do much in terms of unique uses, which does make it feel more like a step downwards. While we could moan all day, it does matter to say that Mario Kart 8 is still a good game and sometimes that is all what matters.
If this is true, then I agree. Has anyone used the gamepad for proper 2 player split screen yet? Fucking Nintendo
Also, Gamepad rear view mirror. It was a no brainer and would have been awesome.

The reviews that don't even mention the effort that has been made regarding MK8's soundtrack irk me.
DLC could fix this. Not sure they'll bother.
I dont have time to go through all the reviews, but what is the explanation for the less good reviews? Only "more of the same Nintendo never innovates [insert false statement here]", or do they actually have genuine issues with the game?

Mostly battle mode and occasionally the roster.
What's wrong with the online? The online set up needs sorting out, it's 2014 FFS. Other than that, congrats to the team on a great game.
