Is this going to be better then Sonic All Star Racing Transformed. The current king of Kart games.

Okay. That's a bit disappointing and makes no sense that the battle mode is on the track and no longer in a arena.
Hopefully Nintendo can add arena's at a later date.

Even if they add actual arenas, the mode is always on a timer and if you get taken out, you continue playing as a ghost that can get items and interact with everyone else.

I think it's beyond salvation.

I read the Eurogamer review first thing and my hype levels exploded.

Come to me, my £199 MK8 Wii U Bundle.

Are there any split screen videos? There are none on Gamersyde :(

Chris Kohler's Wired review/article is pretty worrying. Apparently they nerfed the first place position even harder than it already was so that even red shells are rarely defensible since you can only hold one item at a time and they diluted the pool by adding the chance of picking up a useless coin from an item box.

And it sounds like the horn is too rare to ever rely on, and since it's only one item at a time now, you're probably going to waste it on a red shell before you even see the blue shell anyway.

But yeah, the other reviews all seem to agree the presentation is great, the controls/physics are improved, and the tracks are pretty cool, so at least there's that.

That shouldn't be too hard to fix though. Just provide a mode where if you are taken out then you can't interact until the next round.

I've got fond memories of play battle mode on my N64. Good times.

You only notice that it screenshots really. In motion, it's crisp.

Not at all. Just look at the gamersyde vids. Don't get me wrong, i really want this game and i'll play the living hell out of it. But the jaggies are really apparent and cause a LOT of shimmering in movement.
I was hoping Nintendo could still patch this... but it's probably the game optimised at its best right now.

The jaggies are still there in motion. Just not so much. I wonder if Nintendo are using a temporal AA method here.

I'm gonna reserve judgement on the jaggies until I see it running on my plasma.

I have quite low expectations of graphical prowess on the Wii U, which is probably why it consistently impresses me.

This is probably the best looking Nintendo game ever. Can't wait to get a WiiU and play MK8 with my friends.

If this is what WiiU can do graphically right now, i'm sure the best is yet to come!

Strange. The gamespot review Sounds like the opposite.

The lack of a functional battle mode is typical Nintendo, there's always one or two things missing for no reason from a great package that breaks it. You dutifully wait until the next game thinking the technology will get cheap enough to implement proper netcode or HD graphics, and then you finally get both and you get a gimped battle mode.

before I read any of these, let's lay down a rule I think we can all agree on: if you can't review this game without bringing up the Wii U's market position, you're probably a bad writer

I actually agree wight his. Separate point that can be made in another article. Just review the game, forget positioning, marketing and all the other rubbish people need to hit the word count.
