Mario Kart Wii: 16 players online

I hope this is true. I hope even more that we can somehow communicate with people on your friend's list.

But I don't even know that many people. :(

Anyone else reporting this?
I think nintendo offering a 16 player online game is news worthy of a new thread.

Anyway, source is a scanned ONM page - and english scans are a no-no.

My my, ain't that something. I would've guessed 8 to ten players, but 16 players online!!?

Awesomness and mayhem confirmed.

Is this for battle only or does this also mean in racing?

I'm assuming this means at least 16 different characters then right? How many did Double Dash have? Was it 16?

Wondering if there will be Mii support. Using your own Mii to kick ass and take names online would be great.

Does this mean Double Dash options?!?!? (8 carts- 2 per vehicle) Either way, awesome. Now, just get a decent online service and Smash Bros. online and we'll be set to go Nintendo!

knowing nintendo that is unlikely... we saw they were capable with mp: hunters but no other game that i know if lets you talk to at the very least your friends

They did word it kind of strange, in a way that makes them have 16 players using 4 players on each Wii a possibility.

I am fearing this entry will be way too casual.

And that's saying alot, considering how casual the series is to begin with :lol

The reel we saw looked way too much like DD, and not enough like MKDS, which also worried me. I'm not into the weightless, plastic, floaty feeling of the cars like there were in MKDD... it just lacks a sense of speed and weight and momentum that the earlier versions, and even MKDS, had.

but still no voice chat? might as well race against the computer if you can't talk to your friends without hopping on AIM or calling them.

if this is true I will be so happy, but I remain skeptical since Nintendo has not exactly delivered with online play.

please be true.

Classic controls? Please?

For a Kart racer i really wouldn't mind sideways Wiimote.

However for more realistic racers i would want the CC.

At least make it an option though, it shouldn't be hard.

There's a better chance of the girl in your avatar doing that to me than a headset being bundled with MKWii.

I think the game will be built around the motion controls, either they go full motion or full classic, having both doesnt help a game much.

I had fun with the DS version of 4 player for awhile until the snaking got bad. Maybe I'm not that good with snaking but I hope there's no snaking in this version.

My first post ever on GAF!! when does one change from junior to a regular member?

I suspect it will be much easier to pull off with motion controls.

I wouldn't keep my hopes up.
It's cool to have 16 players but you better pray hard for full voice support. And you will have to die in the fury of friend codes and match making only.

I mean, i don't want to deceive you guys but that's the Nintendo guidelines for online gaming that is asking for all that. (friend codes, no easy communication, match making only, etc)

looks like lots of people still don't know that you can play against random people just fine without knowing their shitty friendcode.
