But the 3DS is totally capable of this so if they did come out with a companion app people would just complain that it isn't the full version. It's funny though since WarioWare D.I.Y. was on DS and all the Wii got was a companion app. If they do come out with a 3DS companion app it would be like the complete opposite of what they did with D.I.Y.

But yeah, I kinda wish the 3DS got something like this too. D.I.Y. was much deeper than this and the DS still got it.
 
Watched the treehouse demo. Reminded me of these YouTube videos I used to watch of basically Mario levels from hell. Seems pretty awesome for any Mario fans.
 
The Treehouse demo was great.
I'm hoping we'll get more level themes, and enemies when the game ships.
Also, online co-op would be fantastic

Hoping that's just because it's an E3 demo. One would expect the basics of Super Mario Bros at least.
 
Will the 8-bit Mario have the "physics" of the original game ? It seemed like it had that floaty feel of the New games and I don't like that.
 
I'm hoping this does well and we might get to see other games in a Maker series... Zelda Maker, Metroid Maker, Donkey Kong Maker, Kirby Maker, and Star Fox Maker would all be super cool.
 
Funny philosophical dilemma Nintendo face with a game like this: give the keys to the community and encourage them to effectively create their own Mario games, but diminish the value of Nintendo's officially curated levels in the process. They could potentially kill off the New series with this, which is probably why it doesn't include all the assets such as P switches and sloping terrain. Wouldn't surprise me if we have to wait for Mario Maker 2 for a SMW asset pack and Yoshi.
 
Has it been confirmed that the NSMB tileset has SMB physics? How would that make sense? Wouldn't they be using the same engine for that tileset?

Has anyone seen confirmation that this will allow downloading of user levels? I assume it would.

They confirmed on the Treehouse thing that it's 8bit SMB physics, the graphic switch is purely cosmetic. I'm not sure how you share levels.
 
This looks really cool, but I can't help but feel like it's arriving a few years later than it should have. I also have concerns about how well Nintendo will handle the server related aspects. This game will only be as great as it's ability to distribute levels and curate the best levels for others to play.

I think the hand was just there to show you where the cursor was, but I'm not entirely sure. It's just amusing that it's the same hand that people used to prove that the leaked Mario Maker e3 photo was 'fake'.
 
The demo seemed really limited, i hope.

Especially since there was only one layout to build on.

Was confirmed to be smb physics for both.
 
Really cool idea but a gigantic missed opportunity to not use Mario World or Mario 3 physics and tile sets. Interest gone until further notice.
 
Okay, after watching the treehouse demo, I'm re-hyped for this. I want it NOW. How fucking cool is to make and play your own asshole Mario levels on the fly?

Hopefully it succeeds so it gets sequels and expansions. A 3DS version would also be cool.

I think SMB and NSMBU (= first and latest) were the right choices for an early demo. Might as well be disappointed it wasn't the full game, yet.
 
Based on the fact that it's a 2015 title and what they're showing is REALLY basic, I'm guessing that it's only a very limited demo. Hoping for all the tilesets and longer stages later

(I'm sure this has been discussed earlier in the thread)
 
Disappointed if it's SMB only physics. Nostalgia is great and all but things have improved since then (wall jump, triple jump, etc)

This is a good point. I just hope they more options in the final version, which considering how far in the future they are releasing it, is a high possibility. I just dislike the physics and artstyle of those games relative to SMW/SM3.
 
You people say more physics, more skins, more options, I see more expansions, more sequels, more money. It's legit if they charge the fair price for whatever comes with this one instalment.
 
I am excited for this. I hope there are more tiles than just the row that they showed. It is cool how you can do stuff not in normal Mario games.
 
SMB3 is my favorite Mario, so while this is cool, it kinda feels like a missed opportunity to me. Taking it up to SMB3 would give you world maps, flight sections, and more tank/boat/flying air fortress levels, on top of more enemy variety etc., all in a pretty easy to understand package. Hoping this is just an early peak, and it looks better fully baked.

I'm so glad this wasn't just a rumor. This looks like so much fun.

I also really like that it isn't just Super Mario Bros. It's new Super Mario Bros. This makes me think there might be New Super Mario Bros. items in it. Like the penguin suit.

But even if it doesn't have all sorts of stuff it still looks like a lot of fun.
 
Remember when some posters thought that this would be Ninty's big game? Or how about when people thought that Miyamoto's tech demos would be all they had?
 
The fact that you can use updated graphics is what sold me on this. I grew up in the 8 bit era, and I didn't even like back then. Snes/16 bit is as far back as I will go.

I was so uninterested in this game before I saw the graphics-swap feature, I completely agree.
 
What they showed of it was cool but seemed pretty spartan.

Are there ways to connect pipes to coin rooms? Can you link levels together as a challenge set, and have secret warps between them - can we perhaps create an entire 8 world, 32 level structured game? Can you make the levels longer then the ones we were shown? Can we have underground levels? Sky levels? Castle levels? Water levels? will we be able to use stuff like firebars in any context or only in specific themes? Will we be able mix and match themes?
Can we add background(castle battlements a'la 8-3, bushes, clouds) in 8bit mode? Lakitu's, Spinies, Moles, podobo's and of course Bowser?

The fact that it's out in 2015 is the most promising thing - that's a lot of time to add more features. Hopefully the above, if not already in the game, is planned.

I'm pretty psyched for this, I'd like to see SMB3/SMBW versions of this game in future too.
 
This is the type of game I would not mind DLC for latter. Add in more villians from SMB2, add in some contect from SMB3 and so on, then I will throw money at you Nintendo.
 
I want to use this so much for my game design classes, to have the students create levels in Mario Maker.

Now to somehow get my university to purchase 60 Wii Us....
