(NOTE: This is my very first OT, and as such, I will update this topic with new information, along with correcting any mistakes that I have made!)

Sadly, the new rule for OT is that they have to be posted one day before launch, not one week like it used to be before.... unless they rules were changed again since then?

Nope, one day before release.
This probably will get locked until then.

Nice OT btw :D

If only Aiden Pearce were here, he'd keep this thread unlocked.

But a question until this is locked: no online play still?

Yep. As mentioned in the F.A.Q., with the exception of Miiverse support, it's all local multiplayer from here.

Sure thing mate. I've been working on some stuff that I'll send ya.

Cool. Send me a PM, and then I can give you my email to send me your stuff!

Wait, the main game only has 5 boards?

The other mini boards are locked behind amiibos, this is the first Nintendo Wii U game I won't be getting on day 1.
I hope they won't be needed at all times, so me and my friends can share amiibos.

When have they said that you need to use a Mario Bros Amiibo to unlock it? They said that they had the same chip in them.

It was in this Gamexplain video that had pointed out that you can use either the Mario Bros. Smash Amiibo or Mario Bros. Amiibo to unlock the mode. Say, if you have the Luigi Smash Amiibo, then you are good to go.

Really seems like they're half-arsing this one in terms of content. 5 boards and 70 minigames is pitiful. Especially so when you consider that the playable Bowser minigames are the selling point of the game, yet apparently there are only 10 of them).

This game should not have amiibo support; instead they should have used that development time to create more content. Another 2 boards and 30 minigames, at least.

Luckily for me a friend is buying it, so I'll get to play it, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it (I'm glad they're sticking with the car mechanic; I loved it in MP9), but I wouldn't buy it myself; certainly not at full price, anyway.

It's unfortunate that Waluigi, Daisy and Toadette don't get their own boards/amiibo.

It's also disappointing that the roster isn't as diverse as previous titles.

And Birdo has yet to make her debut on the Wii U. Why so basic, Nintendo?

Hopefully, they will be getting their own respective Amiibo figurines soon. Originally, I was going to get both the Luigi and Daisy Amiibo together, but since that isn't a thing just yet, I'll just have to wait.

As for Birdo, has Nintendo ever stated if that character is a male or female? I know in the Super Mario Bros. USA manual that states that "Birdo think's he a girl", but I'm unsure that they had changed their tune since, what with the Mario Bros. series becoming SUPER conservative.

I guess they are doing this to put something ou there and release another one before the end of Wii U lifetime, instead of releasing one utlimate HD entry and nothing until the next console.

They could always add those extra boards in a free update. If they do plan to release those amiibo, that is.

It's a heavily discussed topic. The consensus seems to be that she's a female.

Even if that is the explanation, it's certainly not a justification. Mario Party 8 was dogshit for similar reasons; it was rushed out to cash in on the Wii craze during a Christmas period, and had broken controls as a result.

I love the Mario Party series, but I wish Nintendo would start treating it with the same respect they treat Mario Kart/Golf/Tennis/etc. No rush jobs. I don't mind "more of the same", but that doesn't even apply here; it has less. It's not like they even need to adhere to the "one per system" rule, as the Gamecube had four Mario Party games, and they were all good. But they need to stop rushing them out.

I've bought every single Mario Party thus far and this'll be the first one where I'm just not interested in owning. Not only did I dislike the gameplay change in Mario Party 9 but I don't have amiibos and it feels like forced DLC. No thanks I'll stick to renting it to try it out.

Can you use Wii U Pro Controllers instead of Wii remotes?

I have 4 Pro controllers but my Wii remotes are in a dusty cardboard box somewhere...

I don't get the title..? For a second I thought it might be the number of players but nope, that would be 5. Sorry if the actual reference is really obvious.

They've stated both, but I think that's because there are multiple Birdos. The Birdos in Mario Strikers were male, the Birdo in M&LSS and a couple of other games was female and the rest of the games don't mention Birdo's gender.

Preloaded the game yesterday, around 2.3GB. Looking forward to play it next week....then when the friends come over. Such a blast. XD

How exactly does the non-mario party amiibos work ?

THe compatibilty site say this game acepts EVERY amiibo ... but all info I say always mention mario and luigi and not ... kirby and samus

Despite some of the ...mixed things I've heard about this so far (I have no previous experience with "car mode" or whatever, but it sounds not good), I'm at least going to give it a rent and I'm hoping it's good. I actually haven't bought any Mario Party game since 4, but my WiiU has been popular with my friends as a multiplayer party machine on weekends and this could be perfect.

Bowser Party sounds like it could potentially bring back some of that asymmetric NintendoLand fun. And I've already got a buttload of amiibos so bring on amiibo party.

In all fairness, MP9 had a great collection of mini games & game boards, & I'm sure the 10th installment will be consistent in quality.

I am astonished at the huge amount of game that appears to be locked behind amiibos. Unless I am misunderstanding something.

Every amiibo will give you a "scratch ticket", which grants you Mario Party points, though I'm not super sure what you do with those in this one.

Doesn't look like much, it's just a small board with a different skin depending on the amiibo you have and you can mix and match the quadrants to make a unique configuration. I don't think there are any exclusive minigames locked to the amiibo boards.

Yeah, I have a feeling once people play amiibo party, it'll be one of those instances where the bitching and moaning really wasn't warranted to what we actually got, much akin to the whole microtransaction "controversy" that Revelations 2 had not long before its launch.

At first I was like: fourteen new game boards? Not bad. Two seconds later I see that almost all of them are amiibo-exclusive aka behind paywall.

I don't know, mostly everything about this game seems... bad. All the previews I've read and the videos I've seen point to the same thing. Such a shame. The mini-games look really cool though (from what I've seen; I obviously haven't played them), I will say.
