Martyn Ware, a member of 80's synthpop band Heaven 17, was offered by Rockstar $7,500 to license the song Temptation in perpetuity [He lied, $22,500]

You could try a counter offer instead of telling a company to fuck off, that has potential to make you money.

If I was rockstar I would see that tweet and forget this guy and his band existed. You just lost ANY amount of that 8.6 billion.

Never heard that song or of the band before. It sounds like most of the 80's songs. I think they could put anything in it's place. $7500 is probably the correct value of that song's sound that is not that unique.

If Rockstar want the same effect, they could just get another 80s song with 'tempation' or even 'desire' in it. Or hell, just hire someone to make a parody version.

For this reason, it just seems logical that they would want their song to be on a GTA VI radio station.

Another example of an older song getting new fans is the 22-year-old song "Murder on the Dance Floor" by Sophie Ellis-Baxter recently being used in the film Saltburn on Netflix.

I don't even have Netflix and have never seen the movie Saltburn. But, due to the song's recent spike in popularity, the original video for the song now appears in my YouTube playlist regularly.

I'm not sure how much Sophie Ellis-Baxter got paid for this, but you would think this spike in popularity has to be beneficial for her.

She's been very happy about it, as after pretty much quitting the industry to raise a family, it's given her a massive boost back into it.

I doubt she got much for it being in Saltburn.

If people want to pay Rockstar to get their shitty music with no cultural cachet in the game, then why not. Just don't complain when you get music by some blue haired nepotism child of a banker with no obvious talent.

Streaming pays literally pennies.
People wouldnt only be streaming but purchasing it on itunes like i did of many songs from video games. The death stranding 1st trailer song i bought the whole album which would have never happend without it being in the video game and i dont even buy music for real. You are increasing your audience who only play games and dont really listen to music. Another example is running up that hill song from stranger things netflix series. Like do artists not want people to listen to their songs these days?

Whats that rock N roll movie called where dudes literally held the radio station hostage just so their music could get played on air lol. Exposure comes first money comes second. Dude is not micheal jackson or the beetles.

Ya, even though I've never seen Saltburn, the song/video is appearing on YouTube playlists now. I really like it!

I vaguely remember it from the early-2000s, but hearing it in 2024, it's a cool song that I missed.
