Was GTA VI's delay caused by the Series S?

Was it?

Since switch 2 is going to be so big, have so much support and it's dlss will perform miracles. Its been delayed for the imminent switch 2 port.

Rockstar actually launch polished AAA games. They also no longer want to do crunch and don't need to thanks to GTA V revenue. This is why there is all the delays.

All we've seen is cinematic cuts no actual video of what the actual gameplay looks like.

The leaked gameplay looked near GTA5s engine.

Yeah, it wasn't that long ago we first saw the leaked video and it looked rooough to say the least. I think it's telling that they've been so focused on the cinematics to keep people hyped. I mean, gameplay is the most important part of a sandbox game like this, but hopefully they'll have enough time to make it perform well on all consoles.

Of a 3+ year old build. 2022.

You know what? Why am I even entertaining this slop. We go through this all the time, on a dammed enthusiast site of all places, and we still get comments from regular visitors whom are purposely obtuse and pretend to be ignorant of game development and graphics pipeline cycles.

This is why devs don't show off builds years in advance. Because Wolverine is really going to look like what we saw, hugely downgraded over Spider-Man 2.

Morons.

I don't understand the "lol" you're getting.
Because it shows a complete lack of understanding of a game development cycle. What we saw in these gameplay leaks IS the GTA5 engine (or more precicely, his version) used to test features before implementing them more thoroughly in the new version of the RAGE.

People are upset that I've been doubting the gameplay will look identical to the cutscenes.
We haven't seen an actual second of gameplay yet 🤷🏻‍♂️
You can doubt as much as you want but R* track record speak for themselves. We had the same doubters with GTAV, then RDRII, and now GTAVI. R* don't downgrade, they upgrade if anything.

They delayed by almost a year and the rumor reporting is that no one working on the game believed they would ship this fall. There's no reason to think this was caused by the Series S.

Does that mean it's not a pain? Of course not. It's always been a pain. But that doesn't mean we should blame it for a year long delay.

if I was Rockstar I would just tell Microsoft Im not releasing this game on Series S. MS isn't going to tell them they can't rellease it on Series X then.

My guess is they probably wanted to beep things up, fix some bugs, remove some DEI content they felt forced to include, and make this what you except from Rockstar Games. I'm fine with the wait as long as I don't see a crash to home screen.

I very much doubt it. It's more likely down to how ambitious the project is and ensuring that it is released in the most polished state it can be before they allocate all resources to the online aspect.

I really hope they're using this time to actually innovate and build on the framework they have for the game. There are so many good things about their games such as the physics and the way things react to the player, but I'd like to see them improve shooting mechanics and the feeling of controlling the character. Even playing at 60+FPS the games can feel like a chore to actually play.

highly doubt rockstar cares about the xbox since their numbers are laughable.

gta online is mostly like the actual reason since it is still making bank.

Delays are standard in the GTA series:

Vice City - Original: October 22, 2002 Postponed to: October 29, 2002
San Andreas - Original: October 19, 2004 Postponed to: October 26, 2004
GTA IV - Original: October 16, 2007 Postponed to: April 29, 2008
GTA V - Original: Q2 2013 Delayed to: September 17, 2013

People will hate you TC but you are right.

The Series S is holding the game back.

Don't quote me on that.

No. A delay on a studio of the size of rockstar costs millions. They would rather skip the console and maybe release the game later for it, than delay the entire game just for one platform that is not even the market leader.

No one can say for certain but we do have the comments from the matrix devs and plenty of others as well. So, it probably contributed to an extent

It looked bad, no matter your sensitive feelings on the matter. This game has been in development for over a decade and they haven't had any gameplay in their trailers. And now a whole another year of development. It's insane. Something is off. Hopefully I'm wrong and the game mechanics and everything concerning the interactive elements of it are actually superb, but I'll temper my expectations.

It's doomed!!!

If R* rolls up to MS and says GTA VI will be on Series X only, MS isn't gonna say no lol. Xbox is cooked, as much as I think it's a shame, Sony never does too good when they got no solid competition.
Uhhh PS1 and PS2 did great. Neither Sega or Nintendo were threats in 1995/6 and PS2 had even weaker competition.

S has the same CPU, only the GPU is weaker, lowering gfx settings isn't hard. So no, the AI, mechanics,... won't be stuck in the PoS4 era.
The Series S has significantly less RAM which absolutely can affect these things and we've seen examples of it.

Yes. Most devs complain about the lack of RAM, its the worst fucking console ever designed. MS should have just made a single console at about 9tflops and called it a day.

RDR 2 was playable on the Xbox One and it ran ok

If there's a developer that can extract every ounce of a console, it is Rockstar

You can probably get any game to run on any console at least a gen behind with enough time, effort and resources. Thats what makes it an albatross according to some devs

Rockstar could tell MS to fuck off and only release an X version or not even bother with any and they'd allow it because of the PC version and most people using Windows still.

My theory is they went all in on the woke crap and after they seen the recent backlash they had to change story elements. Just my take.

MS would make an exception (as they have in the past) for the biggest game series of all time.

The ball is definitely not in MS's court when it comes to making parity demands. Less than ever now.

Nobody is going to care about the S version other than the meta on here. I would also wager PS5 Pros are going to be hard to come by for a bit around/when this game launches.

Um, they didn't show any gameplay graphics.
Rockstar's cut scenes are real-time and always have been. There will be minimal or negligible differences, where most of the flare is in the camera angles and DOF of the scene.

Which is why you can set a guy on fire and go into the cut scene and he will be burning on fire. Or destruction to the background environment and it will continue to be in the cut scene. Hell, even random NPCs can attack characters in the cut scenes since it's the gameplay engine running.

We have their entire portfolio of GTA/RDR games to draw from. This argument by a select few for the next year, which we go through every time they are ready to release a new game, is so tiring.

What is tiring is the few select "gamers" that believe the game play graphics will match that of the cutscene graphics. And then it's funny, when the actual game releases, they conveniently ignore their previous claims.

True answer: It's possible, but probably not. I think it's just a matter of wanting extra time for it to not be broken in general.

No chance this was caused by the S. Rockstar could ship this on one device at a time and the platform holders would grin and bear it. No way in hell a platform holder would actually block this game from their platform because of release date parity clauses.

I'd think if PS5 base [and XSX] is/are hitting 1080-1440 pushing the higher bounds, then 720-900 + lower precision RT for XSS while pushing the lower bounds would be reasonable.

Main hurdle will be if it reaches the required threshold in terms of RT capabilities and memory bandwidth to do everythign the same.

Gonna hazard a guess this game has been built entirely around RT lighting as to avoid having to bake everything and significantly streamlining development, would be a shame to have to cull RT GI entirely and waste time making fallbacks.

GTA V has a 60fps mode on Series S as well as X & PS5. Sure, it's an old-as-heck game, but it would be silly to believe that the porting of the engine and its systems to Series would be *the* reason for the 2026 delay of VI, when if anything it would have been *a* reason for the V current-gen version being delayed...

I'd figure they would have solved that problem years ago. They don't have the limited resources of a studio like pre-BG3 Larian

Imagine if R* gave a a shit to bow down to MS so they could have their game on their console and run on Xss and delay their whole release because of it 😆.

When do we go through this all the time? What titles…? What titles do we see trailers of and everyone has their mind blown with cinematic only trailers and the game looks just as good.

If anything all we go through is games being downgraded all the time throughout history.

Every previous trailer Rockstar used clear in game only footage which I've never taken issue with, this is clearly not. Why have they departed from their usual in game only GTA trailer is interesting.
