Depends on how much of Danny Rand and his story remain unscathed.

Should be both. The Flash handles it quite well. They fear nothing.
Nah, they good. Nio everything based on the comicbook should be the same. Some shows can take different approaches and give the genre more longevity. Most importantly it should fit the property. That is why I am psyched for Jessica Jones, it will tell a superhero story the mainstream haven't really seen before.
Maybe Cloak's powers are too strong to make an effective show? I mean, they'd basically have to nerf him for anything but the god like threats to really threaten him.

To be fair half the time the writers forget he is more then just transportation.

JJ scares me the most. I fear a Walking Dead translation where only the names and basic plot remains. Alias is my all time fave Marvel series. I remain open to it but not hopeful given the source.

And I am a firm believer that if it's not the correct portrayal they shouldn't use the characters. We can just disagree here. SHIELD is not my SHIELD. Steranko or go home. Hell Grayson is the correct SHIELD now.

Honestly. No. They need to establish Peter more before.
And Multiverse fuckery wont come to the cinema anyway.

On a long enough timeline, the mulitverse will come to the cinemas.

I had that exact goddamn phrase typed out, then I deleted it. It's so true, which is damn shame. Cloak and Dagger were my favorite characters circa Maximum Carnage. Since then, they're usually background noise, with Cloak hovering in the background as the real fighters leap out of him.

No worries, I'm sure Iron Man's little laser beams are a better solution to major problems than an infinite void that can suck in anything and deposit it in a universe without form.

Well TV SHIELD is competent and isn't taken over 4 different times before lunch. So yeah it is different then the comic

I love the darkforce, I submitted my thesis to Standford on Applied Darkforce Physics, but haven't heard anything back from them.

Keep it at original series levels and it's not a hard play at all. I need Tyrone and Tandy. Stat. <3

That picture shows basically everything the couple should be. Come on, the TV storytelling potential of a interracial couple from wildly different backgrounds coming to terms with each other and their burgeoning powers in 2015 America is nearly limitless. Throw them in a city like Detroit, where the other heroes are busy in NYC so they feel forgotten and you have even more fuel.

Alfre Woodard's character revealed:

Woodard will play Mariah Dillard, a local Harlem politician--and cousin to recently announced Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes (Mahershala Ali)--who is looking to bring a new era of change to the streets she grew up on. Her personal life and professional career are thrown into turmoil by both Harlem's newest hero Luke Cage as well as her cousin Cottonmouth's nefarious acts.

“Alfre has an incredible, unique, and intimidating presence on screen that makes her perfect as a leader of the Harlem community,” said Executive Producer/Head of Marvel Television, Jeph Loeb. “We couldn’t be more excited that an actress as celebrated and talented as Alfre has decided to join us on this adventure.”

According to Comic Book Resources, Alfre Woodard's character is an adaptation of an old Luke Cage character by the name of Black Mariah.

Too bad she is not the original, inadvertedly super racist, gross AF Black Mariah. That would have been a riot.

Classic Powerman villains were the worst/best.

We should really have the pictures and discussion in the Jessica Jones | Production Thread, and let this one be about Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
When is the production on Luke Cage starting anyway? It seems like Marvel are really gearing up now with all of the castings.

It's already filming. There are photos of Ali and Woodard on set.

Incidentally, given the ~9-month filming-to-premiere schedule for Daredevil S1 and Jessica Jones, that could well mean we'll get three Netflix Marvel series next year. Not sure whether they'll get their act together regarding Iron Fist or whether we'd get JJ S2 in its place, though.

It's so unbearable waiting for Iron Fist. It feels like forever.
Who's doing the Luke Cage production thread?

I will make one this weekend if its ok.

Regarding Daredevil... I think its ok when we use the Season one thread. People werent so excited about a Production Thread.

Another reddit source, just detailing the tone they're going for with Luke Cage. I don't think there's anything very spoilery here, so no black bars.

https://www.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/comments/3lx53q/possible_spoilers_new_luke_cage_info/

I work for a music sync company and we recently had this description come through for music needed in an episode of Luke Cage.
"Luke Cage is written by Cheo Coker (Ray Donovan, Southland) and the first two episodes are being directed by Paul McGuigan (Sherlock Pilot, Scandal Pilot). Played by Mike Colter, it is the story of a bulletproof, super-powered man on the run from the law who, despite his checkered past, can’t help but become a hero. We like to say it's all Marvel but closer in tone to The Wire.

TONE: Luke Cage is a dark, yet vibrantly kinetic world with cinematic scope -- SHAFT meets CITY OF GOD. The music is hip-hop in all its bombast and complexity, a living, breathing character in the show, with song choices ranging from the instantly recognizable classics to the fresh, next big thing. This unique tone will be the backdrop as we tell the story of a superpowered escaped convict at war with himself, who sets up shop in a community at war with itself. Marvel represents family entertainment. Our series will never show tobacco smoking or drugs. We are PG-16, never rated R.

SETTING: The Harlem of right now. A patchwork of brick-and-mortar history and a highrise future. Predominantly Black, the area is nevertheless a mosh pit of income brackets and ethnicities. Our hero, LUKE CAGE, moves in several worlds – he lives above a Chinese restaurant, and works for cash at a beloved barbershop by day. At night, he’s a dishwasher at a slick, gangster-owned nightclub. Within these different worlds Luke will notice a pattern: Harlem is plagued by crime, corruption, and gangsters, and needs a hero.

THEMES: Identity. Power. Manhood. Who is Luke Cage? Is he the escaped con that just wants to be left alone, or is he railing against his destiny to become a hero and better his community? Over the course of season one, Luke will grow into the hero we've been waiting for.

Luke Cage is the third of five Marvel premium Netflix series. It’s a dark, grounded, adult, premium cable show. Luke is one of Marvel’s most iconic “street-level” superheroes, with his origins going back to the early 1970’s, and he’s a huge fan-favorite."

"Shaft meets City of God"

"Our series will never show tobacco smoking or drugs."

Interesting conflicts. :)

I understand the overall ban on smoking that Disney has - showing smoking is realistic, but it perpetuates the image that "smoking is something that people often do, especially powerful or exciting people" and I imagine that a big step toward reducing cigarette use would minimizing its mindshare, particularly in media that appeals to kids and teens.

I find the "no drugs" rule to be a bit odd since Daredevil has heroin as a major plot thread and a drug addict as a relatively important character. I guess it means explicitly showing drug use? Or it only applies to major characters? I dunno.

How does the "no drugs" policy jive with the Heroin in Daredevil? Likewise, I thought parts of Daredevil were R-rated (especially the guy impaling himself on a rusty spike), maybe not though?

Edit: I see I'm not the only one thinking that. ^^^

Drug use. They could show whatever they want but can't show no one actually using the stuff.

Funny how fucked up is american censorship.

Well, which is it? Adult or family? HBO or ABC?

Based on what the showrunner for Daredevil said repeatedly, I get a sense that there is the show that the creatives want to make, and the company lines they're required to tow to please a larger management. Very humorous.

Yeah, I figured it was showing the actual usage, but that's not what it says in the description so... hmm.

The big "PG-16" push is probably sex / profanity related anyways. Show people getting killed in all sorts of sick ways, but don't say naughty words or show a boob!

They love using The Wire as a reference. I remember the Daredevil guy doing the same thing.
Then you watched his show and it was typical comic book bullshit. Except it was violent.

Side boob is always ok!

As long as they don't go quite as far in pursuit of a "crime drama first, superhero series second" tone as Daredevil S1 did, I'm fine with that description. Though having a lead character with physical superpowers should help prevent that.

Finished a 2nd watching of Daredevil. So going by wikipedia, production on S2 began in July and I've seen pictures of Berntal as Frank Castle being filmed so does that mean everyone has been cast since they're shooting? What I'm getting at is I see no mention of Wilson Fisk which is worrying. Bullseye I don't mind waiting another season for but I want my Kingpin.

You know, that's a good point. I just assumed he would be back-but I haven't heard anything about him.

I would like Vanessa to be the big bad, taking instructions from Fisk in jail. Frank Castle will be hired by Vanessa to take care of Daredevil, while Elektra gets involved because of the whole ninja angle.

Would be nice.

Kingpin and Bullseye for Season 3.

Keep Kingpin out of the picture for a season or two. When he comes back, he should be wearing the white suit because he has come to terms with who he is.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think Frank is the kind of guy to be a hired hitman for criminals. Dude's on his own mission.

He was introduced as a killer who was hired by the Jackal to kill Spider-Man.

You just need someone who seems to be on the right side and the public opinion and maybe the news coverage strongly against the hero. Then he would do the job.

Yea, I haven't read that Spider-Man comic since I was a kid but I am pretty sure The Punisher was just some super villain hit man when he was first introduced. At some point writers decided to flesh him out, particularly when antiheroes came into vogue (which was right about the same time). Plus he was popular, so of course the publisher was going to figure out more ways to use him.

Those latest Krysten Ritter pics... I say god damn god damn. She looks like she was designed.

So when can we expect Luke Cage to be out?

Reasonably? Probably June of next year-ish. I'd imagine April-May is going to be Daredevil Season 2, so they'd need a month or two breathing space. This is all assuming Iron Fist is on track for Fall next year. If not, I'd imagine Luke Cage would get the fall slot, and Iron Fist would get pushed to 2017.
