MM Exp

I'm pretty sure I have identified this.

One of three things:

There is a setting in the game that determines at what range you receive experience from enemies killed that you did not damage. This exists to keep players that are grouped in a reasonably close level range to each other. Basically "free" exp just in case you are slower than your buddy.
For Midtown, I believe it may have have been set to "infinite" range, meaning you were getting exp from your kills and from everyone else in the zone. Infinite exists for certain modes of the game (X-Defense, PVP, etc.) but wasn't intended to Midtown. I can't check on that until Monday morning.

There may have been a live tuning variable set for Midtown that was giving 1.5 experience (leftover from a bonus weekend) and was reset with this patch.

There may simply be a bug in the exp curve. If so, we'll fix the curve by Monday.

Either way, we'll do something for the Monday patch.

Other stuff!

Hey guys,

I'm working in the office with the team and I wanted to give you a quick update:

We are working on some Black Widow stuff today. I've posted in their forums to start a discussion with them.

We are looking at experience rate consistency. Specifically yellow orbs from bosses in Midtown, but also in general across the board.

We are working on the "spoke" terminals that appear without enemies.

We are looking at enemy defense and damage.

Although splinter drop rates a high now and AFK farming is much harder, we are looking at a safety net to prevent extreme unluckiness.

We are looking at loot tables in a few players to increase rarity quality.

A seperate team is working on the new test center which is quickly getting the defense system upgrades and new content published to it. We will allow for a week of internal testing with, then another week of public testing. We will not publish this until we feel it's perfect and all the buffs we intend to happen, actually happen. (I have learned and will comply with safety over aggressiveness).

On Monday I will look into extending the chase costume sale or at least the splinter part of it so people have more time to get them if they wish.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Just gonna watch for updates for the exp fixed. Probably won't play until it's fixed.

That update makes it sound like people are getting more free exp than they intentioned. So right now it is faster to level up in MM than it will be after the fix? I'm a bit confused as to exactly what the situation is.

No, it was supposed to be 400% XP off boss exp orbs but apparently that got messed up so now it's even less exp than before patch apparently?

The way I understand it is that the system gives you less exp if you're out of range from what your party kills. Since this range was (possibly) set to infinite, everyone in the zone was getting this lowered experience as if they were always out of range.

I really hate how much this game changes sometimes. They should really make Retcon Devices something you can buy with credits.

I was having fun with Black Widow and then they nerfed her and now the new build I have sucks and there's nothing I can do about it.

Are retcons tradeable? I have a few I can give you if they are.

Xp in MM is ridiculous already, makes it pointless to do anything else for leveling and they keep buffing xp grants.

MM is getting incredibly boring

MM is boring but I'm a lazy guy so it's alright for me. More variety in end-game wouldn't hurt but heroes need to be fixed before X-Mansion comes out or else we'll see a lot of "LFM XMansion NO IRON MANS."

Not happy to see that Black Widow is getting the drones back. Those things are going to be so ridiculous in pvp. Guess it is good thing I prefer shooters over arpgs for pvp.

IIRC, they have a way to balance the game separately for PVP. She could have a nerfed version in PVP while having a jacked version in the normal game if they so wanted to.

Found out today that the most money you can have at any one time is 2 million.
Once I hit the cap, I went and spent 800, 000 on lvl 4 costume upgrades.

I would really love to see an new area like Midtown Manhattan.
A jungle setting would be awesome, but with some buildings in the area, so you can take cover in the alleyways if/when you get overrun.

Iron Man rework is on track for early September.

The big August patch includes a bunch of power improvements for Iron Man but no big changes.

big august patch doesn't seem so big anymore

Big August patch is big because of new difficulties and survival mode.

Though buffing arguably the most popular Marvel character right now is probably a good idea.

Just disappointing when all the attention is on BW (and apparently Spider-Man next) who, AFAIK, were perfectly playable and enjoyable sans Drones crashing servers or whatever.

Meanwhile there's no joy to be found in IM and RR.

Iron Man is getting new animations/VFX (dare I say hover while moving?), so naturally it'll take longer to get that done as opposed to the numbers tweaking that Black Widow just got. IM really does need a full revamp to be fun, simply making his attacks hit harder wouldn't change that (although that's happening in this next patch anyway).

BlackTree is finalizing the Iron Man rework. He has asked for engineering and VFX work so it will be several weeks. However patch 1.2 gives him many damage improvements and survivability improvements.

soon. soon.

to be disappointed.

nerf all beam weapons, missiles target yourself.

oh man i just discovered hawkeye's negation arrow thing

why don't more hawkeyes use this in MM >: (

new small patch has new small costumes

The ones that were ready were: Punisher with big red skull and cool black uniform, Human Torch will cool 2099 costume and Black Panther in heavy armor.

for a second I was checking the timestamp on posts and making sure I didn't go back in time to where bp's Armored Costume didn't exist yet but nope

This week’s patch includes fixes for a few important issues as well as some small character changes to ensure players are able to enjoy their heroes before Game Update 1.2. We expect to have 1.2 on the Test Center on Sunday.

CHANGES
  • Increased XP slightly in level 30-34 Manhattan, and level 35+ Manhattan. The experience awards are not going to be perfect until the big August patch – some things will be awarding very high experience and some lower than intended. All of this will be adjusted with the big August patch, expected on August 29th. We will use live tuning to get as close as possible to intended numbers.
  • Defeating a boss will now net three times the amount of credits as before.

Item Changes

  • Adam Warlock no longer sells Rare Chase costumes for Eternity Splinters.
  • Hero/Power Changes
  • Recovery animations have been removed from the following powers for increased usability:
  • Black Panther: Evasive Throw
  • Black Widow: Evasive Shot
  • Hawkeye: Elusive Arrow
  • Ms. Marvel: Evasive Blast
  • Rocket Raccoon: Cunning Shot
  • Spider-Man: Evasive Websling
  • Storm: Elusive Blast
BLACK WIDOW
  • Black Widow has received a small buff this patch in addition to a second rework of the Micro-Drones that should improve their usability, fun, and power. Please note, this is the first of a much greater list of changes coming to Black Widow, but many of the upcoming upgrades are tied directly to the new defense system coming soon.
  • Painful Precision: Has been moved to the “Weaponry” skill tree.
  • Acrobatic Assault: Escape Roll prerequisite has been removed.
  • Rolling Grenades: Explosion timers have been offset so that they detonate in a cascade to hit at a wider variety of ranges. Please let us know how this change feels on the Black Widow forums!
  • Coup De Grace: No longer requires a target to be stunned or knocked down to use in order to improve the usability of the power. Spirit cost has been increased to 15 and the damage has been reduced by roughly 30%. Now deals double damage to knocked down or stunned targets.
  • Micro-Drones: This power has been redesigned. Drones now release in a burst of 24 at all ranks, deal splash damage, travel much faster, and seek out targets rapidly.
PUNISHER
  • Punisher gets a few minor tweaks with this patch that were left over from the previous changes. His survivability will be greatly improved with the upcoming changes to defense.
  • Killer Instinct: Now gives Vengeance when you use Punish The Guilty.
  • Flechette Blast: Tooltip now displays bleed/debuff duration.
DEADPOOL
  • Deadpool’s changes this week are mostly quality of life changes to make some of his powers more clear. Deadpool is due for a design review very soon.
  • Stink Bomb: Now gets the proper damage bonus from synergy with Itty Bitty Boom.
  • Power Ups: Tooltip for "next rank" now explains that power ups become more effective with ranks.
  • Flesh Wound: Now gets synergy bonus for the DoT effect as well as the base damage.
CYCLOPS
  • Cyclops’ only change this week is a very important bug fix that prevented players from using an important power in boss fights. Cyclops’ survivability will be increased by the new defense system, allowing Cyclops to fight more aggressively.
  • Channeled Blast: Damage is no longer resisted when the slow effect is.
CONTENT ADDITIONS
  • Three brand new costumes are now dropping in-game as loot and are available in the in-game store (press ‘X’ to open the store)!
  • Black Panther Vibranium Armor
This battle armor was used by Black Panther during the superhuman Civil War. It greatly enhanced his abilities and allowed him to go toe to toe with both Iron Man and Captain America.
  • Punisher Marvel NOW!
The Punisher adopted this red skull and body armor look after joining Thunderbolt Ross (AKA Red Hulk’s) Thunderbolts.
  • Human Torch 2099
This unique, purple skinned Human Torch is actually an Atlantean with mutant fire-based powers from the Timestorm universe. Relur was a combatant in underground arenas where he did battle with Spider-Man 2099 (and eventually helped him escape the underground prison they were incarcerated in).

BUG FIXES
  • Fixed defense stat display issues in the character sheet. Both the issue and the fix were purely cosmetic.

Update 1.2 at the end of August

Hi folks,

Here's an update the 1.2 Game Update for Marvel Heroes.

I'll use this post as a placeholder and update it as I get breaks from work typing.

The 1.2 Game Update

  • Largest patch ever for Marvel Heroes.
  • Our "big" monthly patches are generally scheduled for the last Wednesday of each month, going forward.
  • Major upgrades to every area of the game: Items, Enemies, Bosses, Hero Power and Responsiveness, Performance, Quest Tracking, Difficulty Modes, New Zones, Gameplay Options and a new Hero (Emma Frost).
  • Includes the master defense rework (which includes many game systems besides just defense) which is a very large buff to melee and hybrid ranged/melee heroes.
  • Internal work and testing has been underway for almost a month.
Schedule (Subject to Change)
  • Our best guess schedule. Will change if we are not 100% happy with everything. Expect it to change.
  • Currently in small private test center with daily changes. This patch has the longest testing period of any patch so far.
  • Live public test planned for Sunday, August 25th.
  • Several days of testing and iteration to fix any small bugs that still exist.
  • Final live publish planned for Thursday, August 29 if everything is working perfectly, otherwise will we keep iterating until it's perfect.
  • We will not publish the patch until it's perfect.
Contents (Subject to change pending testing)
  • The performance and game settings menus have many new options to customize your play experience.
  • Very cool improvements to floating combat text, including lots of options to customize the display.
  • Emma Frost with her various options of playstyle (telepath, tanky diamond warrior, mind controller)
  • New item slot: Relics. Relics stack up to 1000 and give a bonus based on them number of relics you have in that slot. Each relic you add to the stack gives you a bonus with increasing diminishing returns. Each relic also has a flat +1 health bonus, so a fully stacked relic slot will have +1000 health and something like +200% crit damage.
  • The zone called X-Defense! Defend Xavier's School students from mutant-hunting Supervillian groups. Difficulty and rewards scale up with each wave of attackers. See how many waves you can survive for the best loot.
  • Heroic and superheroic story modes. Play through the story again at high-levels for the best experience, credits and loot.
  • Quest log for every one of your heroes, so you know exactly how much progress each hero has made.
What to Expect
  • Most players defense will increase (particularly melee and Iron Man)
  • "Yellow" Elites will be harder and drop fatter loot.
  • Red terminals will be balanced better.
  • Overall performance will be improved across the entire game.
  • Heroes are all tougher. They will be much less reliant on stuff like dodge just to survive and dodge will no longer be mandatory for melee heroes. Every dodge % will go down slightly, but heroes who currently have the highest dodge rating will continue to have the highest dodge rating. (Example: Pre-patch Daredevil may have 70% dodge but die in one hit from a tough boss. After patch Daredevil might have 60% dodge but can take several hits and live)
  • Every player will have their power points refunded since there are so many changes.
  • You will see two new item slots son your character sheet: Team Insignias (coming early October) and Relics (launching in this 1.2 update). Additional items slots, including StarkTech items and 4 artifact slots, are coming in October/November or earlier.
  • Many performance-related improvements have been made. This will improve lag for certain players, desync issues, loading screen times and various small issues for different device drivers and systems. There are several engineers who continue to make major strides in this area and will continue to work to improve this for every patch.
What Not to Expect

  • There are no major hero reworks in this patch (except Jean Grey and Black Widow), although there are many small upgrades, bug fixes, damage upgrades and survivability improvements for literally every hero. Several larger and medium reworks are underway and will land in the patches after August (including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Thing, Punisher).
  • PVP is still several weeks away from launching and will be tested in a future patch. Internal playtests continue.
  • A big experience curve adjustment is being developed for September. The rate of experience is a little too steep at high levels and a little too shallow at low levels. We are going to tune that to be more fun and rewarding in a patch after 1.2.
What do to Until Then
  • Play your favorite zones and heroes. Save up lots of splinters until then for the new items on splinter vendors.
(In progress... Will update in the morning)

BP's outfit looks okay. Punisher's is kind of cool though; maybe I should level him up some.

Still awhile till the big patch. I hope that with the defense revamp they do something about the terrible costume affixes. Too expensive to gamble on garbage like 50 defense.

Will probably get back to playing this soon, sometime after 1.2 is on the TC at least. Really enjoy streaming this game for some reason.

Nice Punisher costume, but I'll only see it as a drop. If I spend money on any more costumes it'll be for Frankencastle.

The hideous Marvel Now Punisher? No. Give me Rucka snake Frank already Gaz

Big patch is next week it sounds

It says "live public test". They'll probably push it back because these patches always introduce new bugs.
...

I've said it before, but is there a way they could release a high poly/res model pack for those of use with semi-recent computers? The LOD in the characters and costumes is abysmal, but the renders they use to show them off look fantastic. I'd post it on their forums, but I'm not particularly fond of them.

Just opened some fortune cards I saved now that you don't get instant buffs:

I should mention that not only I don't care for Deadpool, I already got that particular costume from a FC before =/ Wish I could give it away at least.

Hey Wallach, did you quit for a specific reason?

What's that red smoky item?

Red mist visual effect artifact.
...

Edit: I don't think I'd miss the health, the spirit gain is definitely a worthy trade off for losing the God of Thunder reduced spirit cost, but I think I'd miss Asgardian Smite way too much.

Hmm, what to do...

XP in MM is even lower now? Guess I'll just wait for 1.2 and see if they get it right then.

Red T3 Power Cosmic bosses is poop.

Red T3 XP is poop for the effort. zzz

Tried MM. XP is terrible there too.

I really feel the game would of been way more popular in retaining its user-base if it launched in the upcoming 1.2 version of the game.

I think with 1.2 Marvel Heroes has come together enough (especially with heroic and super heroic difficulties), it's a shame they lost so many launching before they were ready. I am impressed by the ground Gaz has made up however.

Without a doubt. If they had just gone into open beta, which it cleau was, people would be raving about how responsive the devs are, and now quickly we get major changes. But they 'launched' instead.

So we have a pretty major change coming to the game in the new patch:
Doomsaw said:
Because of difficulty modes and individual hero quest trackers, you will need to change heroes in a hub. (As a side effect, this fixes over half of the remaining exploits in the game).
I'm surprised to see them take away one of the major things they promoted during dev / launch of the game.

Well looks like I need to do some more red terminal leveling before they change it.

Or not. I have enough 35+ characters anyways @_@.

Well crap. Being able to change heroes on the fly was one my favorite little features. Having a bunch of alts seems a little less cool now. But I guess it's okay cause since hitting max crafting I've become rather addicted to costume crafting and some of my alts no longer have costumes anyway. =x

Ugh, I need to prioritize leveling my crafter now. I'm so behind on that. I'll probably use all my credits for that too, instead of wasting them on costume affix re-rolls.
