why did Edge mag give this a 7? What they say?

Im interested in that too.

I just looked it up. They gave (Super) Street Fighter IV a 9.

They dinged the game for no unlockable outfits?

Sounds like it. Somebody else in the thread said they also mentioned a lack of different modes and stuff like that, but no one's directly quoted what they said. Just paraphrasing.

Still sounds like some bullshit.

Streamers putting Threi & TvC on blast instead of playing some more Gotdamned Mahvel... smh
Can't they do both? It is obviously faster than TvC, Wong said he thought it may be faster than MvC2, but I'm sure he has no idea what he is talking about.

Lack of modes is a legitimate complaint. The game is pretty barebones.

"Not a serious fighter" is lolz.

But they're both 60fps!

Honestly though, I don't notice much of a difference at all if we're not counting X-Factor.

Edge gave MVC2 A 6 and street fighter 3 third strike average around 80%, most reviewers can't review fighting games worth a damn. This game could average 5's for all i care.

Threi, you're being a bit soft-skinned, I think. Definitely isn't the first time I've heard MvC3 is faster from people that have played both. They do have a point in saying you can't make that judgment without playing the game.

nah people are fine to disagree...that's fine.

regardless, not gunna be watching that stream again. They can suck my nuts for all i care.

will look forward to the next "we got it early stream" though :D

Oh, and bonus thing, She can land her lvl 3 from full screen distance off beam hypers ^_^ Shown to work with Chaotic Flame at least, so far.

Oooh, did Morrigan just do her spinning ankle blades, pause, and continue the combo with crouching A? Morrigan got links!

Well damn. I will put her though my character rotation then :D

Edge lol

They do this shit to get attention. The justifications for scores, whether high or low, usually sound so arbitrary.

Though for what it's worth, I would have a suspicion someone insisted on a 7 out of butthurt because they got creamed while playing the game. Smells like an Edgeish thing.

Note, my comment was more about the idea that there's Marvel to be played and they took an intermission just to do that. :P

Side note, Arthur's Flying Fire Dragon hyper is fucking amazing visually. :lol

Oh, for sure. I was just saying I couldn't find what they actually wanted in terms of modes. That comment about outfits and fanservice was the biggest thing people pulled out of it. I'm sure they must have mentioned the lack of spectator mode and other features like that as well, but I haven't read the actual article.

Street Fighter has this sense with beginners that there's something greater to master while playing it.

Marvel on the other hand, doing random full screen shinkuu hadoken/proton cannon to defeat the CPU, you might already think you're a master at it. =P

But I think that might be for Marvel's benefit actually. People don't look for fighters that are deep. They look for flashy stuff and characters involved. Look at mortal kombat.

I see a lot of people worrying themselves over potential 100% combos, x-factor, and Sentinel so I just wanna say this to you guys: Just because people can pull these things off in training mode does not they can do the same in an actual match. Not that they can't because they haven't practiced enough, but because things are a little different when playing against a live person. Remember: you have all the same tools they do.

Nah, just ignorance. I didn't know what you meant by HRAP 'till I googled it. This is why I was apprehensive about writing that thing up since I'm still fairly new to the scene, but I keep seeing people coming into the thread and ask whether they need/should use an arcade stick for this game so thought that I might as well since no one else was. I'll PM Spindashing about the HRAP pic.

Score sounds spot on to me though, it should get that for no spectating.

Hey. Really silly question, but do we know which button to hit on character select for default costume? A pet peeve of mine is going through a bunch of crappy alts in Capcom fighters while I try to figure out if I need to hit jab or fierce for default.

I'm not sure that's the best example, though I will say one of the reasons I was so into mvc1 and later guilty gear and bb because of how flashy they are. I eventually ditched mvc for cvs2 though as it was much less over the top. I like both kinds of games really.

BlazBlue does this best. It just lets you pick from a list. I have no idea why other fighters don't do it.

You should be VERY worried about Sent, and a few others.

I hate that too. I like the way BB does it. You just hit start and it brings up all the colors. In MvC3, you can at least see what colors they are on the selection screen and actually deselect characters, so that helps.

Ha, yeah from the little bit ive seen of the game Sentinel looks ridiculous. If i want to play freenix it would seem sentinal would be a good mate?

I'm really looking forward to that EDGE review. It sounds like a case of 'fun' gameplay vs 'rewarding' gameplay (though fun can be rewarding, and vice versa), with a little bit of 'not enough modes for a fighting game when a fighting game is all about fighting' thrown in.

It will be nice reading the 'real' review in about a year or so when these things have been put through their paces by the pros. It's unfortunate that the community doesn't have the sagacity of EDGE, that it can gauge MvC's quality a week before launch.

Tell me I'm rambling..

Scoops, Pringles, Fuck the Knicks!

That's better...

All of the high-damage combos I've seen so far look pretty damn easy (in comparison to a lot of stuff from this game's predecessors), and some of them don't even require X-Factor or significant meter investment. And the problem people have with high-damage output overall is that basic combos will wreck shit so hard that nobody will be encouraged to take their skills to the next level to earn their damage.

I honestly kind of feel this way myself, but not to the point where it's a significant negative overall.

We seriously need to get in some games, they would look lovely in video form. Tell me your not going to the launch party and will be on tonight!

I have meetings all day, I want to go, but not sure I'll be able to make --I so want to though.

Edit: What team are you running?

So look at all this bullshit being discovered already *this is a good thing it makes the game fun* and who still wants to argue that this game is made with casuals in mind :lol I wish I had smileys for this :D

I can't wait for all the RAAAAGE this game is going to generate.... It's even funnier when people are asking if they couldn't do good at sf4 if they have a chance at this.

Tuesday come faster! D:

Where did the whole "KFC" thing for X-Factor Cancel come from? I've seen some SRK avatars with it as well, but it seems pretty weird.

Also, these guys on the stream are pretty serious
ly wrong?
about, like, everything.

Fake Edit: And homophobic, I guess.

I'm just saying, dude seems godlike Day 1, but it's very possible that there is an assist or character that could be a great anti-sent and we just haven't realized yet

Or you could, I guess, just have a Sentinel on your team too.

Okay, I think I understand better what people are apprehensive about. But I would still argue that this point in the game's life (what is this, like, day -5?) I don't think it's something that people should be that worried about. Especially not until we all have the game in our hands. Then you guys can all call me out for being an optimistic fool and not having the appropriate amount of fear/respect for 50Sent. ;p

Scrub here, but half the Sent combos I've seen involve him jumping across the screen and hitting with a slow kick. Anti-air would shut that down easily, right?

As to why most of my friends aren't gamers and why I don't date girls who play games either. Too much bullshit for me to handle :P

Actually, I'd say that 100% combos are more concerning on day -5 than after release, personally.

I'm sure people will come up with anti Sent teams, but just know that Sent will be on a lot of teams. He's good, and fits well on many teams.

I wouldn't be able to honestly say since I haven't seen those vids myself(nor have the game in my hands), but from the sounds of it the Jam Session assist sounds like it would shut that nonsense down pretty quick.
