Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

If they were going to announce something, it wouldn't be on the first day.

Also, the CPT community guy said he was going to make trips to FR and Wondercon. Let's at least wait till FR is over. If nothing is announced, then Wondercon is our next best opportunity.

I wish it WAS more different than just 2v2 Marvel 3 engine/character models/animations with a retooled, selectable X factor. As it is, it's definitely a watered down experience coming from Marvel 3, it's very hard to argue otherwise even with the given information.

My main hope for Marvel Infinite is that the characters are retooled more so that they have more options available to them. A lot of characters in Marvel 3 lacked in options because assists would cover their weaknesses and they would still be viable... this is not the case anymore. Putting Ryu in without significant retooling is going to be yet another Marvel game where Ryu sucks.

Having the gem system be a mix between grooves and X-Factor is something. It's possible the button layout might be different too, with two punches and two kicks. With an additional button that's not just launcher/aerial smackdown there's the potential for new moves. For instance, characters like Dante and Vergil in particular would have lots of room for new moves.

I'd say it was watered down if features were only removed instead of changed, but that's not the case.

Does that mean Sony and Capcom could be competing for Spider-Man characters?
Hmm, the shared universe stuff in this article is confusing. I assume they just want a consistent look for default characters, but if they can vary by context/incarnation/time period, I wonder if that will allow stuff like 90s Storm instead of the more modern versions, for example.
There could be two interpretations of that quote.
  • The way Randolph started the question seems like a thinly-veiled "Can you guys use every Marvel character in existence" question, which could pertain to the X-Men/F4.
  • However, the 2nd half of the question with the use of "studios" could relate to who the likes of Capcom, Insomniac, Square Enix, & Telltale Games have access to.
Either way, there's cause for concern. But I'm maintaining hope that Ryce's sources are on the money concerning the subject of the first bullet point.

Unless Sony also is making a multi Marvel franchise fighting game: No.
There's currently multiple games available on the market that share the same characters (including Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy characters, among others), and I sincerely doubt that Marvel would prohibit anybody from using Spider-Man and his associated characters even though there is a Spider-Man game on the way, or GotG characters despite Telltale working on a GotG game.

The thing that Bill Rosemann is referring to in particular is that there indeed do seem to be a few characters that Marvel does not have the game rights to. Namor the Sub-Mariner seems to be one of the prime ones there, and there's always been characters that Marvel didn't seem want to get used on and off (for instance, there was this Super Hero Squad online game made by Gazillion before Marvel Heroes, and they weren't allowed to use a set of specific characters, including Namor but also Bishop or Danny Ketch Ghost Rider; albeit Bishop appeared in Marvel Heroes and as a playable character in later Marvel games as well).

There's also the rumor of Square Enix's Guardians of the Galaxy to consider.

Considering all the talk, discussion and controversy about the Fox ban I think it would be sweet if the last trailer before launch, revealed a Marvel staple (Wolverine or Magneto mainly) fighting a top requested character from the Capcom side (C.C. maybe?)

That would be HYPE... but one can only dream lol

Im back to watching the Cap/Morrigan gameplay trailer.

We need something new for the love of god
I've been watching speculation videos from youtube about the game.

You're right, don't know when Capcom will reveal some info given that nothing happened at PAX or FR...

Nothing from PAX or FR? At 8-9 months until release and a roster of ~32 we should be getting like 4 characters a month soon...

Is there an event that's close to the release of gotg 2?

That's where I see Capcom revealing Groot star lord or whoever.

Forbes is saying that Eighting (MvC3/UMvC3's dev team) is co-developing MvCI. If so, it's probably similar to how Dimps helped with SFV (I.E. mostly doing grunt work).

No source provided, and this is the first I've seen this stated so manner of factly by a respectable outlet, so I have my doubts about the veracity of that statement. Maybe they are working on Infinite, but this doesn't seem like surefire confirmation.

As for the rest of the article, lack of balance patches and new netcode nonwithstanding, having a PC release is definitely not unnecessary.

Neoxon is right, I forgot those trailers dropped before E3 that year.

We still didn't really know any details about the game until E3 though. Then we got actual finalized gameplay and mechanics information, as well as Cammy and Birdie.

I don't know if we'll get any characters before it, but I do expect to not get in depth details until E3 again. Then a more steady flow of character reveals.

Hopefully I'm wrong though.

Wondercon is what I have my eyes on next. Other than that, I'm not even going to think about when Capcom will start making reveals. It'll happen when it happens. This drought of info is pretty boring, though. I don't know why they can't even give us artwork.

And that game launched the year after with barebone features, a handful of characters and no story mode. This one is still launching this year and has almost double the characters (potentially) and a story mode at launch.

The rumor going around Final Round was a reveal after SF top 8, I got my hopes up and I'm pretty disappointed now. :[

Surely it can't be too much longer at this point...

I think it's just the thirst making people spout stuff that ain't true, just to get their hopes up.

Honestly not expecting anything till E3 now.

Seriously, who is starting these rumors with no merit? Unless they actually did have something planned, but then canceled.

Damn, that sucks. Makes me wonder if Capcom intended to make an announcement and changed their mind.

People just got too thirsty for the news. It's like Smash Bros where people just tried to predict next characters reveals like games' releases, anniversary, etc.
