Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

Yeah in all honesty the amount of scorn the game gets every time it's brought up is really dampening my enjoyment of, like, actually trying to be excited for it here.

what I have seen is that with fighting games...hell games in general, there is always a very vocal group that will be upset about the new version (see the Zelda cycle). Some people's expectations are always through the roof and that added with rose colored glasses of what the old game was is a bad combo.

That's your problem for letting it through your head. Just stop letting it go through your head and enjoy the ride with us since we are one that are going to buy the game and enjoy the game regardless.

Sometime people just like to be so negative so it would bug other people on purpose so you can't let them wins in mental warfare! :P
 
They don't need to keep adding assists to characters lol.

Tag system is like a reverse assist. Your point character is the assist which is supporting the character in reserve. Once you rewire your brain to understand that, then you realize that the sky becomes the limit with the system.

Iron Man does Unibeam, tags to Strider on start up, Strider does teleport command on entering for a mix up/free get in.

Chun Li does SBK to get in (horizontal) and tags on start up, SBK locks them down while getting on the opponent and your tag in characters gets a mix up/pressure.

Chris does Magnum and tags an opponent, tag into Hawkeye, does Dead Arrow into full combo (will work with every combo for big damage, probably why they are making Magnum a resource as it gives Chris a potential death combo from full screen).

This also works for aerial moves now so now you can use aerial moves as assists. Iron Man does Smart Bombs from super jump height and tags into partner, if Smart Bombs hit then you get a free combo.

Every Hyper is a threat now because say you do random Hyper Charging Star with Captain America, tag into a full combo on hit.



There will be no lack of degenerate stuff in this game. Every character will be a threat anywhere on the screen. Just about anything can be turned into a combo especially with a universal OTG system.

Can't wait until the pros get their hands on this, I already know all the Marvel heads be like...

You know, Capcom is deliberately trying to make the game more accessible to casual players, but man there is going to be some major salt from those casual players when they get repeatedly trapped in the crazy mixups that look possible in the new tag system.

It is like a reverse assist! But it carries a cost. All of your incoming character's red life will be removed.

I don't think its a reason not to put in characters with delayed projectiles or 'assist' characters of their own. Variety is good.
 
I agree with Dahbomb. Tag cancelling is a gamechanger and will keep Marvel as stupid as it needs to be.

I think the devs have made a pretty solid case for Gems replacing assists in utility, and opening my eyes a bit to the additional issues of traditional assists we know and love, beyond just some characters being "assist characters" as we know.

A lot of my initial skepticism from a gameplay complexity standpoint has been alleviated. Right now I just miss 3v3, but thinking of cool duo names will probably smooth that over come September.

EDIT: And universal OTGs is huge too.

It was going to happen, no matter what, that's the funny thing.

The tools may change, but getting bopped still remains the same.
 
I give it 2 months after release where this game will appear to be broken in the hands of pro players. It's going to be fantastic. The tag system combined with the infinity stones is going to ruin people.

I know exactly what you mean, but I am remaining hyped for it. Every time they show something new, it looks better.

He said something about no new info for 6 weeks as of when he made the post, likely referring E3 as being the venue for the next big info dump.

He said something about no new info for 6 weeks as of when he mad the post, likely referring E3 as being the venue for the next big info dump.
It could have been the gameplay trailer since we didn't get a confirmation from Ono about what was he referring to.

Nah, I don't know anything about the marketing schedule. I just have a feeling that we'll be receiving information more regularly in the wake of last month's massive press tour. I wouldn't be surprised if today's Rocket clip belongs to a larger trailer.
 
Reviewing the gameplay trailer, tagging is pretty instantaneous. Thor's hammer working like a grappling hook sounds real cool in this context. I'm curious if the hammer will follow Thor if you tag out on confirm or will continue in it's trajectory, and if you could turn that into a sort of reset.

We still have no idea about ground and wallbounce limits, right? Difficult to tell in the gameplay trailer when Hawkeye/Chris are going to town on Thor if the magnum causes an additional wallbounce or just catches Thor on his way to the ground. Wonder if using the Power Gem contributes to those or circumvents it.

I was so thrilled when I saw Thor throwing his hammer in the leaked video. Then there is an article that mentioned that it works like Link's Boomerang in Smash 4 (Gust Boomerang). That made me exciting for Thor even more since I wanted him to be in MVC3 but he was kinda sucky in MVC3 which made it harder for me to put him in the team. Hopefully he would be good this time.

I think there might be a better Gem for Wesker since Wesker already have his own teleport so I don't really need a time gem for him. Hopefully Reality Gem would be pure intense for Wesker to use.

I'm excited to play rocket, one of my favorites from 3. But yeah that VA is kinda bad :(.
 
They should put in Moon Knight and just make him Joe from TvC. Wish I had a gif of his staggering neutral stance, which would be perfect for Spector. A lot of Joe's moveset could actually work with Moon Knight though besides that.

In the recent interview, Mike Evans said they worked hard on the Arcade/Story Mode.

He also said there were very certain experiences that couldn't be replicated outside of the Story Mode as well. Could this imply some mini-games, or unique things outside of fighting the AI?

Also, do you think Arcade Mode could end up being more than your typical simulation of 8 or so battles? The way he talked about it seemed to imply it was different than what usually comes from that mode.

I just really want the single-player content to be good for Infinite.

If rocket raccoon still has traps and tleports I can easily couple him with Ultron and his drones, tags and the space stone to push pull folks to break shit. Currently it's my top prospective broken pairing idea.

I guess they really want to sell that projected 2 million copies.

Marvel wont let Capcom screw this up, LOL.
 
Any guesses on who the Capcom rep is going to be, assuming duo reveal, when Rocket's trailer drops? I think they'll play it safe and show off a vet from 3, but I hope we get some new blood soon.

If new info comes before E3 showing R.R and a Capcom rep, I think it will be a returning character. They'll keep the surprises for the big event IMO.

Part of me expects this game to be even MORE dirty than UMvC3, though with lower power levels.

I really think that they'll reach the 2 million mark, unless some big backlash comes when the game releases (FOX ban, lack of content, too simplistic, etc).
The Fox ban, namely for the lack of Wolverine & Deadpool on Day 1, could hurt the game. But the fact that MvCI is also on Xbox One may help soften the blow. Lack of content is another story, but having both Story Mode & Arcade Mode on Day 1 should make this not much of an issue.

If Capcom learned from SFV and Marvel is overseeing some things other than lending the characters they pick (don't buy that Capcom chooses who they want with complete freedom)
this shouldn't go bad at release.

I really hate the pettiness of the Fox stuff. If it hurts the sells, that will really suck. Let's hope it doesn't.
I really like the X-Men and I find kinda disrespectful that they won't be present in the game (only DLC as far as we know) but that won't stop me from buying the game though.
 
It's really a double edged sword

On the one hand you lose out on some mega icons like wolverine and deadpool along with mvc staples like storm and magneto

On the other hand it gives capcom/marvel an excuse to really give a lot of diverse love across the whole marvel universe when the xmen don't take up 1/3 of roster development time.
 
Have been playing Darkstalkers.

Jedah is pretty whack. Outside the limb thing, he's not very interesting. Now BB Hood, that's a good character.
