Let's just say I have seen full pre-visualization of the sequence of Dr Strange's "trip". It's definitely quite something. I have not read the comics myself but the pre-vis is very trippy.

Could go either way, both movies feature an Infinity gem and the Russos will be going straight from CW to IW.

I'm pretty sure they will. IIRC Doctor Strange is Feige's favourite character so he'll want to do right by him.

I'm pretty sure Doctor Strange & Thor: Ragnarok are the ones that do most of the heavy lifting for Infinity War.

Marvel's never really done that though. The first damn scene of Captain America: The First Avenger, Red Skull is going on about Odin and Asgardian treasure and the audience is expected to just roll with it.

Strange represents another major part of the MCU like Thor did and they won't hold anything back. Audiences will accept the weirdness more if they go all out.

Before Marvel started talking with him, the major names in the mix included The Drop‘s Tom Hardy, The Imitation Game’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Dallas Buyers Club‘s Jared Leto,

Can't imagine Hardy in this role. Leto would have been a...choice casting.
