Marvel's Spider-Man 2 new screenshots

Somehow i have 0 hype for this game and i loved the first one. Maybe im too busy playing great games like BG3 and starfield, but im a lot more excited for alan wake 2 than this game

You already know how it's gonna play. Same setting, same gameplay, same protagonists, same everything basically.

No idea what has happened to this game graphically.

The first game looked great in 2018, the remaster on the PS5 and Miles Morales both look very good too.

Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart from a few years back is probably top 10 visually too.

But this just doesn't look impressive.
What are people expecting? Outside side of ray tracing/path tracing, how else could Insomniac Game improve the game? Most of the improvements would be interactive to make the game seem photo realistic.

People expecting the Matrix demo gonna be disappointed with a slightly more polished facsimile of the first game slathered in a film grain filter. Personally, I thought the first 2 were boring as fuck and every bit as Mad Libs by the numbers as an Ubisoft game, so I couldn't give 2 shits about another 20 hours of more of the same.

It is looking so good. My god.

The review thread and DF, NXGamer analysis of this game.....I am prepared for the madness.

Doesn't matter if it ends up looking exactly like SM1 .. it's still spider-man so it will still be great.

Get Miles outta here and give Poodaddy his Venom shots!!!

I guess I'm weird but I see people here saying these are bullshots, while I'm like "I don't really see any difference with the first game, they look the same to me" lol. Not that it's a negative, I think the first game already looks fantastic and I'm fine with the graphics being similar, but that's it, they are, to me, very similar.
Also awful blur / film grain / aberration on these screenshots.

You're looking at the PC shots there folks.
No we're not lmao.

Plus, these shots look awful. This is legit one of the most graphically disappointing games of all time. I was expecting an all-timer look wise coming after Ratchet. But they clearly mailed in the graphics.

It should look way way better than it does. What a joke

Looks like a Ps4 game with better LODs.

A license for depicting a city building wtf?
Fuck that BS.

So would you rather a nice game that the looks like this on a decent development time line, or do people want 10-12 year development cycle and $500M-$750M budget for games and watch the game industry collapse? BTW, I think game looks great and I am looking forward to it. Bullshots or not, I don't care, I know the graphics will be more than enough for most people and border on amazing.

Looks way better than screenshots from gameplay showcase.

At least will look better than Spiderman remastered. So that's a relief.

Taken on its own, game is pretty to look at no doubt. People criticising graphics should just take break from gaming and come back after a year or so.

People just expect to be blown away from Sony first party titles from previous experience, they set the bar high so when they don't reach it they get kicked in the nads. They did this to themselves!!!1

Not blown away for a current gen exclusive. A ground up game in another location would have taken allot longer so... I think the Wolverine game will be a more ground up showcase for PS5.

90% of what I care about is in the gameplay. While Spider-Man PS4 was very solid, it had a non-interactive open world with repetitive encounters. The combat was enjoyable but ultimately pretty shallow. I really hope the new gameplay changes carries this game

That does look like spiderman...

Don't get me wrong, love the game, love insomniac and can't wait. But there isn't really anything they could show me to sell me more on the game.

Except maybe co-op. You do that and I'll get very erect

Exactly. I have Platinumed the first one and I regret it as it amplifies all the flaws it has. Sadly, from that gameplay video it looks like exactly the same game gameplay wise so not very excited. It will be a fine game, no doubt about it, and a very good one for those game sessions when you're home tired from work but I hoped for something greater.

This has not been talked about much but you could clearly see the combat has been reworked from the trailer.

They seem to have removed the gadgets and put in real time rechargeable suit powers. This should give the game a better more organic flow.

Whether this is enough for some everyone I don't know.

How about you spend 4-5 years on each project instead or stacking them on top of each other?

After development of Spider-Man 1 in quick succession from remaking Ratchet and Clank Insomniac spent months on 3 DLC drops, a half-game project in Miles Morales, and reiterated on de-edgified Ratchet the year after. They're stacking Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine on top of each other, and the former looks extremely underwhelming.

I was hoping for complete skill tree removal, less moves more skill based, and put all that in a tutorial with a MGS4 training section too, so that gamers can skip doing the same things and feel like the developer respects their time..

I also wanted the game to make every large building interior trivially accessible and procedurally populated if needed - unless locked off for story reasons - so it doesn't just feel like swinging around large PS1 Amazing spiderman cuboids with PS5 advance shading on them that reached its pinnacle in the PS4 gen, so that the city feels more organic and truly benefits from indirect lighting as the character moves in and out of apartments and builds trivially in real-time gameplay - like a next-gen changed - rather than cutscene transitions to hide the seams of the engine transitioning between indoor and outdoor. But I know none of those things are happening, and this is really just a sequel graphical polish of Morales, which should still be good for me as a spiderman fan of the stories, but probably a bit flat from a gameplay perspective, like an AC3 fatigue.

Fair enough but it's seems a pretty odd detail to get hung up on considering all the other huge improvements.
The pic was taken to partly show off density (pedestrian to be fair) and lighting. I just don't understand why you'd choose that picture of the first game if that's the case.

Insomniac is a massive studio with 2 separate development teams. For context, they are roughly twice the size of God of War's Sony Santa Monica

Looks good, but I'm still gonna wait for the PS5 Pro to play this.

What will you see in the game when you play on a PS5 Pro? What if Insomniac chooses not to implement any changes to take advantage of the hardware? You would wait until end of 2024 or 2025 (since no official announcement of a Pro has been made yet) only to find out nothing changed in the game?

Is it weird that I like the original screenshot more because of the clarity? That film grain is so extremely heavy it actually makes the game look...blurry? Plus, looking closer there are some distinct changes like buildings using lightmaps to depict an "inside" reflection which definitely makes it feel bigger but at the same time feels repetitive.

In the pursuit of photo realism graphics ?

Honestly it sounds like you don't like insomniac games. But they seem to have found a good balance between speed, skill, graphics and gameplay. Their games seem to be well received, they must be doing something right.
