Brits are too biased on this subject to have a meaningful discussion about it, I'm afraid.
Or maybe I am, in which case you wouldn't have problems pointing out a couple of "lack of coordination, a pure mess" examples from the past.

Ukraine mess is the obvious example but honestly I could give a million examples and they’d be insufficient for an ideologue so I’ll leave you to it.

Of course they lie. All the factories are running again, many people are going back to their normal work and all this while the virus still causes hundreds of deaths and thousands of new infections every day. And don't forget that they don't have internet of course and the WHO and other specialists are of course not on site. So no one could ever find out the truth. /s
I mean, aren't the factories back up and running because they shipped in the Uyghurs from those reeducation camps in Xinjiang? Not saying that they aren't getting a lid on this thing, but I'm pretty sure the production is back up only because they dont care if the workers they shipped in die or not.

Edit: Looked into it more and the timing of the report was coincidental. Uyghurs have been shipped out for forced labor in factories over the past few years, and recently an Australian investigation brought that to light. The timing of the investigations conclusion led me to falsely assume the 80,000 Uyghurs were sent out to juice production numbers in the wake of COVID-19. Turns out that's not the case, so my bad.

Soo, I was planning to fly to one of the former USSR republics for 2 weeks in early April.
At the moment all people coming from Germany must be quarantined for 2 weeks, flights from Italy are canceled altogether.

No fucks are given by Ryanair, flights are still scheduled.

Uh, yeah, let us better not, I don't see a chance of agreeing on anything.
Good to know I'm "an ideologue". It feels better when you know exactly which label has been applied.
Not necessarily, I would have voted remain had I still been in the UK but I've been living in a poorer EU country for years now. Their management of both of those things was a shambles. Not everything is black and white. I don't think you're an ideologue, I'm simply saying there are lots of examples of the EU mismanaging things. Like nation states do all the time. The problem is, when the EU gets it wrong, all nations have to deal with the consequences.

I'm glad the Eastern EU states, particularly mine, stepped up and closed the borders when it was clear things were getting out of hand. Hopefully that means we'll be spared a massive spike, the population here is old and the healthcare system weak compared to Western Europe.

If you read some news from South Korea and China, there are some unverified reports stated Abe's government was seriously downplayed the numbers and did not want to cause panic to affect Tokyo Olympics. For example, Japan government did not test as many Japaneses citizens from Wuhan and released them back home without any testing. Softback's boss offered 1 million free test kits to public and was accused of"causing public's panic" by the right-wingers and nationalists. He forced to apologize and declined the offer. SK and China does have a good relationship with JP so takes their news with a grains of salt.

SK and China has good relations with Japan? Excuse me?

Were those guys that tried to infect as many South Koreans as they could, Muslim?

Actually, i can answer this.

They were the ones who did what the elft wish they could do for wrong speak:

Charlie Hebdo.

I can go on if you like?

Good to see at least someone making effort to reinforce the blond stereotype.

So youre against racism/stereotyping but then reinforce those things by making fun of white blonde women?

Get fucked.

As for the so called Cult in South Korea... reads more like a useless Govt trying to pass the buck of not taking more effective measures to contain an outbreak. Blame the c"cult" boggy man.

It was a pro Palestinian manifestation that went bad.
It happens.
Our yellow jacket manifestations went bad every week for a least a year, it was not Muslim related.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate religions so I hate Islam too.
But I don’t think it is wise to say will riot because of the corona virus.
Maybe shits will happen, maybe Muslims will be involved, we will see , but believe me, French people have a big problem with authority in general.
We don’t like orders and have a tendency to defy government.

To be back on topic.
My surgery is postponed due to the fact that the service where I should go is quarantined.... great.
And The elderly hospital where My son works is quarantined too.
They will continue to work but they will monitoring every one who works there.

Im spanish.

Spain is literally a country of idiots. We have official Alert Status from our goverment and we have to stay at home except for

a) Going to get groceries
b) going to the pharmacy
c) GO TO FUCKING WORK

So this morning what we had: buses and subways full of people, offices full of people, roads full of cars, street with people going here and there.

What's the fucking point of a "stay at home quarantine" if we are still going to work?

Back of my throat is starting to feel dry and I feel a bit strange.

Usually this is the sign of a cold coming on (I always get a sore throat, doctor refused to remove my tonsils as a kid). But I do feel a bit off. I'm hoping it's because it's getting late and I'm just imagining things. But goddamn, I really hope I wake up tomorrow feeling fine.
removing tonsils prevents sore throat? (kinda of an ignorant with those things)

Are any of you ‘having moments’.

My situation is just completely fucked up. I just went into the bathroom and started silently screaming. I was one second away from banging my head into the mirror.

I’m with my 85-year-old mother, and she simply does not understand what’s happening. She doesn’t have dementia. She just doesn’t ‘get’ the situation. I’ve basically given up on her at this point.

Honestly, I’m almost at the end of my tether.
i know it sound stupid but can't you procure some medicine or even some weed to calm your mind?
i know that it kinda look like escaping from reality but sometimes this shit works if you are really worried.

My sister's an expat Brit living in Spain, and she said this morning that it is law for one person per car, and dog walking can be done once a day by one person, so people are sharing dogs with neighbours in order to get out lol.

So, 1 person per car or get busted, but sharing the subway and bus, is fine??? I guess face masks are compulsory, no?

Our work policy requires reduced staff, and I will work from home half the days. My gym is big and has only 3 people at a time. All my other time is spent at home. I also have airbrushing face masks, so that's handy.
Still even this makes me a little bit uneasy. At least less traffic getting to and from work.

This is probably going to be the new normal for a while, but it will greatly suppress the number of cases and the spread.

I think you need to go outside and take a deep breath.

I'm reading a lot about how pathetic my countries (UK) response has been and it is fair to say the lack communication has been very poor, but I've now just seen the below gif of the spread of the virus through Germany between 27th Feb and 12th March and it is both frightening and surely far too late for "shutting things down"? Are the UK scientists just resigned to this fact and any shut down would've had to be done mid February to be effective (impossible to do then of course)?

Pretty scary time for myself and family. I had a lung op 3 years ago so really don't want to get this and now I've gone back home to help my older parents (70s, dad has underlying conditions and they will not stay indoors for weeks) look after my disabled brother.

Serious question for Neogaf:

If you had to go to a job interview, would it still be considered appropriate to shake hands?

I’ve been using the Thai greeting and would do the same for an interview.

Take care dude. Hoping it all works out for all of you. Just do whatever you reasonably can to reduce your risk.

I think the UK is an interesting case because you can see the way people are reacting.

Whether or not they are doing the right thing is unknown and will remain unknown for some time.

I would point out though that social media and moral outrage is playing it's part here.

So are some governments doing the wrong thing but doing it because they fear public backlash?
Are the UK government doing what they are doing because it's right and they do not give a damn about the backlash?

People are saying things like "look at how China got it under control" but that's a nation that does not give a damn about human rights. So...
That nation that famously cares about and values human life....

In a lot of places, UK and Netherlands for example, people are basically demanding a full lockdown and are furious that the government dare allow schools to stay open etc.

If I see that damn curve one more time...

A curve that conveniently does not show how long this process will last.
The longer a shutdown needs to last the more sever the consequences will be.
More severe than what is already going on? Nobody really knows.

Some of the utter shite I am reading online just really shows that everyone wants to appear to be "in the know".

At the end of the day people in government are being advised by experts BUT they are also probably trying to minimize public outrage so that they will still have a political career when this is done.

How many of them will ultimately acquiesce to an outraged public that are demanding "do it like China"?

How could that possibly work? Especially with actual stats from Italian provinces.

I'm wondering that if the point of a total shutdown is to slow the spread then the German model shows that it is far too late for that. Italy have only been shutdown for 1 week. If any European country tried to shutdown ~6 weeks ago when stopping the spread was viable they would've been laughed at.

That isn't to say limiting movement/social distancing including minimising work shouldn't still be done now.

ETA: Thanks S Saruhashi ! I don't particularly like any political party right now and aren't a fan of Boris, but at the end of the day no Government could ever win in such an emergency.

Same here. The strange thing is I didn't have cold in years if not decades, but since yesterday I start coughing and my throat feel dry like yours.
I have no clue who could give me this present.
Good thing I work from home in general not only in this particular time.

The curve is also based on "confirmed cases", not total infections.

We have little info on how widespread it is, but the ~80%+ asymptomatic/mild rate suggests that a lot of people already caught it and got over it without needing a hospital visit.

The curve and the death % would look a lot different if we have a clearer picture of total infection rate.

Once this is all over, do you think China will be held accountable? Or face international punishment for their initial covering up of the virus?

I imagine not. But someone at least has to bollock them at some point.
I don't know about "held accountable" in an official sense. No, I don't think the international community is going to sue them or punish them in some way.

But will this accelerate the de-coupling from China's industry? You bet. It was already in progress. This just puts the pedal to the floor.

Luzon, the biggest island in the Philippines, is now under total lockdown, or what our government likes to call “enhanced quarantine”. That’s an island with at least 50% of the country’s population, give or take.

This sucks big time
