N.Y.C. Death Toll Soars Past 10,000 in Revised Virus Count
The city has added more than 3,700 additional people who were presumed to have died of the coronavirus but had never tested positive.

New York City, already a world epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, sharply increased its death toll by more than 3,700 victims on Tuesday, after officials said they were now including people who had never tested positive for the virus but were presumed to have died of it.

The numbers brought into clearer focus the staggering toll the virus has already taken on the largest city in the United States, where deserted streets are haunted by the near-constant howl of ambulance sirens. Far more people have died in New York City, on a per-capita basis, than in Italy — the hardest-hit country in Europe.

A good question. My state is so bad I'm shook to go outside but I still do it more often then I should still everything feels unreal.
I think I would have been sick already if the places I went were not mostly ghost-townish

First if we ignored this we would not have any numbers to know we are in some shitstorm, just lots and lots of unreported deaths
I think it would be kinda odd to have thousands of people dropping dead in the streets daily though.

Can someone explain why city like.NY has the same deaths as a country like Spain or Italy..? As far as I know it only has like 10 millions habitants ... density is a factor but even then the deaths are so much. Maybe Ia am missing something.

Number of infected is likely much higher than official figures.
Perhaps obesity makes it much worse? (diabetes and what not)
 
I flew home last Weds and back into MD yesterday. I have to say it is soooo fucking weird flying right now. The airports were empty as hell and on both flights there were a whopping 5 passengers. I didn't even bother with Clear/PreCheck lines yesterday, there was only one other person going through screening. BWI isn't even offering PreCheck right now but AUS let me keep my shoes on/electronics packed away. I did get my backpack pulled aside for my hand sanitizer- they have to extra screen it I guess since they now allow >3 oz. containers of it.

Got to be honest, I absolutely love flying like this although the food choices in the airport are quite anemic. A fella could get used to having a whole row to themselves, I wipe everything down then once the plane hits altitude and I wake up I stretch across the seats and pass back out. If only it could stay like this forever!

Most of Italy's deaths are concentrated in a region with about the same population as NY state
 
Trump halts US funding to World Health Organization

President Trump announced Tuesday he is halting funding to the World Health Organization while a review is conducted.
Trump said at a news conference the review would cover the WHO's "role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of coronavirus."
The President said that while the US imposed travel restrictions on China during the early stages of the outbreak, WHO was "opposed to what we did," he said.

"Other nations and regions who followed WHO guidelines and kept their borders open to China, accelerated the pandemic around the world," Trump said.

Trump continued: "The decision of other major countries to keep travel open was one of the great tragedies and missed opportunities from the early days."

I actually like the move,and the WHO definitely deserve blame.
He can't pass the buck though. Many people knew that the WHO were fucking up, and potentially worse. Trump said he had known it was a pandemic well before the WHO announced it, so he can't pretend that their failures effected his actions.

When it comes to the WHO its indepnedant of Trump. The people who died in Italy/Spain/UK and all over the world don't care if Trump is doing this to absolve himself from blame. WHO's corruption screwed the entire world. Trump is only the guy with the balls and leverage to say and do something about it. Just look at the UNHCR and its corruption, naming China the head of the commitee.

The problem is that unlike you a lot of people are not going to separate Trump from what the WHO did. Trumps blame shouldn't matter when judging the WHOs action. Hopefully a lot of other people will take your stance.

It's always frustrating watching White House reporters take a combative, Jim Acosta-like approach with Trump. Everyone should realize by now that he has very little patience for that nonsense and he can see it coming from a mile away. They currently see these briefings as campaign rallies so they aim to sabotage them. Even during a pandemic these reporters can't stop viewing absolutely everything through a political lens.

Why does Playboy even get access to White House briefings?
