I honestly don't think I can accept that. I'm interested in the story/universe, but ultimately I'd much more like to play the game and fuck up some robots/aliens than listen to some dudes drone on about backstory -at such a proportion, I mean-.

To begin with, I'll switch to the female Shep. Then I'll play a bit deeper in and see if it lightens up any. But what you're all telling me is that the beginning of the game (going through the space station, meeting Jacob, chick killing Wilson) is fully representative of how story-intensive the rest of the game is? Maybe I could just ask the questions that get me out of the dialog the fastest, but it does sort of bother me to be skipping information that the game sort of meant for me to know. Though it is optional for a reason. (thinking aloud here, but hoping that someone does provide some insight or an opinion!)

Well there are missions that really aren't dialogue intensive, like a few recruitment missions are mainly about shooting and not really much talking. Same for the N7 side missions, there aren't that much dialogue in them if at all.

Most of the dialogue is optional to an extent, especially the conversations that you initiate, but chances are you'll miss some side-missions / loyalty missions. To me it's the best thing about Mass Effect. Or one of them.

Correct. I want to know if that is the final AR you will get? In one of the trailers, Shep was using an AR that fired blue bullets...
I would assume so. The Widow Sniper you get from that same place is the final Sniper you get. I think your classes best weapon is the only one you get 3 of. The initial one, upgrade, and then the special version from that mission.

I'll keep playing and see if it grows on me. At least they're normally brief. But for now it just feels jilted since I really want to actually play.

Once I found the Revenant AR my need to use the other weapons went down quite a bit. It's like an M249 LMG: a bit inaccurate but destructive as hell with a big magazine and lots of spare ammo too boot. Once you upgrade with an accuracy buff and some more damage you have a thing that hates all life.

With a fully upgraded Disruption Ammo path you have an unholy weapon that kills Geth and shielded mercs faster than the health bar appears.

I like the Inferno Ammo better, but hey. :p

What are people's favourite special weapon? I'm building them all just because. I want to like the Nuke Cannon but it takes a while find enough ammo to fire it and then the enemy usually isn't worthy of all that destruction.

So far the only one that really agrees with me is the Collector Particle Cannon. It's a beast with a lot of ammo, bascially a weapon in line with the Revenant AR.

I like the particle cannon and the firestorm for routine work, chiefly based on what sort of enemies I'm facing... I use just enough of these to keep my ammo full at the end of each mission, in case I need the Cain.

The Cain is awesome, if wasteful. It's saved my bacon quite a bit on Insanity boss fights.

* * *

You know what sucks on Insanity? YMIRs. You know what mission really sucks on Insanity? The N7: Eclipse Smuggling Depot.

The credit rewards are already poor, and for whatever reason, on Insanity, only one YMIR will engage you at a time until they've destroyed all available crates.

Been trying to save all the crates - just not going to bother anymore. Not worth losing that Insanity achievement at this point for a few measly creds.

If you want a similar sci-fi shooter with no RPG elements, play Gears of War 2.

Part of the fun in conversating in ME2 is being attached to the story and your Shepard character. Give it time and if it still isn't your thing, play Gears!

In order to get the side/loyalty missions, do I need to just engage the conversation or do I need to ask every question possible (eg, Investigate --> Miranda, Investigate --> Where are we?, etc.)?

Wait, wait, wait, I just read that post about Canadians and minimum wage that was dripping with dumbassery, and I think I've made a huge mistake. Did I get my Gendo avatars mixed up, and THAT'S the guy with the abhorrent and terrible opinions? Shit, I might owe someone an apology...

Also in Mass Effect relatedness, is the human guy in Thane's loyalty mission you
interrogate
named Elias Keeler? Because I'm pretty sure someone in Mass Effect 1 is named that as well.

20 hours in, got all but one of my squad, yet I feel like there's so much more to do. I'm lvl 23 now, so I'm fairly sure that there's not too many more side quests left to find, but I want to mine a lot of planets so that I can upgrade my stuff as much as possible.

If I had one complaint, it would be that the main story is kinda just sat there in the background. In the original game you only had 5 big missions, sure, but they really had purpose and I felt like I was involved in this huge story. This time, it's cool going to different worlds, meeting my new allies and then seeing what else was happening on their world, but I don't feel like there's a real, serious threat to the galaxy, y'know?

Still, that's a minor complaint. Plus with this being the middle act of a trilogy, it's to be expected almost. I've heard from a few friends that the ending is orgasmic. ^_^

There are no available loyalty quests until you get your second dossier. When someone is ready to give you a loyalty quest, Kelly will say something like "Miranda wants to see you in her office." You can also ask Kelly "How is the crew?" And she will tell you if there are any loyalty quests available.

If you're really not that interested in delving into the story, then I'd advise almost always avoiding the left side of the dialogue wheel. The right side will always get you out of conversation the fastest.

But you're really missing half the game if you don't delve into that stuff.

Has anyone used the collector armor, it looks freaky but I have not taken it for a spin yet

I've done a male and female playthrough without the DLC armors already so I'm probably do a third playthrough with one of the armors when the Hammerhead and/or Kasumi drops.

That was my combo for the most part.

I mean damn. I barely even used the particle cannon when I got the Revenant. So potent. Only thing I missed was the accuracy the Collector Rifle provided.

That's just it. You are playing. If the conversations don't feel like you're playing, then the game really isn't for you.

For some people, myself included, the conversations are one of the most rewarding parts of games like these.

My game got glitchy then. Out of the 3 or 4 mechs.. only 1 attacked me. I saved around 16 or 14 I think :lol (they never moved, but still attacked what was in front of them)

Dayum............:D

I put in 40+ on insanity with vanguard and I did everything (sidequests/main mission). If I would of scanned every planet, it would of been more time but that scanning shit got boring and I had enough minerals near the end of the game. Also, I died an insane about of times too.

So after I continued my game after the ending, some new missions opened up but they don't appear in my journal, wtf? I have no idea where to find them and I'm not checking every single galaxy :lol

I think that's what they want you to do.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Noooo I apparently messed the final mission up. :(

Mordin died, that's it. But his death was out of nowhere, after I beat the last boss and it showed the cutscene of the team running back, it showed his corpse for a second as collector's ran past him. What did I even do wrong? I guess I should send him back to escort the crew instead of Grunt?

I've been getting that question alot. I really don't know:lol

I mean.. I did probe, but I didn't do it that much. I did finish with about 50k ele-zero and near 300k in the rest, but I don't think I even probed a quarter of the total planets.

Did everything I could possibly do in the game and still got to 30 near the end. I wonder if people that imported a level 50 instead of 60 like I did have a chance at 30 in the first playthrough.

Some "important" decisions I made in my paragon playthrough in hopeful regards to ME3:

Uploaded the cerberus data to the alliance.
Saved the city at the expense of the Spaceport.
Didn't kill anyone during the loyalty missions.
Tried to be pro-peace with the Geth at the Tali trial
Had Mordin keep the Krogan data.
Let the Asari eclipse go free (boooo!)
Killed Mornith.
Chose to destroy the ship (I was seriously torn on this one. Took me like 20mins to decide)
Ended the game without cheating on Liara. (pity. I did romance all the women I could.. but then I reloaded back to my previous save so it wouldn't count. Sorry Tali :( )
Everyone survives!

Saw a new copy of the 360 CE at a Best Buy just before closing last night.
It was just sitting at the bottom rack all by itself.

This is rare right? I should have bought it?

It's either just a random thing or some sort of bug. Mordin dies for a lot of people who have is loyalty and made all the right decisions. If you want him to live it's best to just take him with you for the final battle or have him escort the crew back to the Normandy.

So I finally got to courting Thane with the is_Female hack :D ... beginning the convo with a female shep and so on ... it follows you can do this in reverse: fem shep and miranda for example, but why do that when there's hundreds of you ready to do that anyways. :lol ... we'll probably see a lot of that, I'm not sure if this will work and show the "love" scene, however.

Wow.
Tali's loyalty mission was incredibly moving, as far as video games go. I really, really struggled between deciding whether or not to submit the evidence to the court, and genuinely felt for Tali as either choice had great and dire ramifications for her status among the Quarians.

I get rid of the Inferno Armor and went back to the ole N7. Too many scenes looked ridiculous with that helmet on, plus there were other advantages later in the game.

Yeah that mission just shows how much better FemSheps VA is.

When the paragon action comes to hug Tali(When she finds out her father's dead) you can hear the compassion in FemSheps voice

Just starting my MaShep play and it'll be interesting to see how the VA is

Don't leave Tali or Mordin with the the others for your final mission, they both tend to die there a lot regardless. Best thing to do is either include both on your own team, or send one of them back with the Normandy survivors

When all else fails, nail a character with family issues.

How did you know new missions opened up?

I had several unread messages after I finished the last mission, some of them being new mission messages. I didn't bother to read them because I never really do, and just assumed they would update to my journal. I even got the pop-ups for the journal/mission updates that come up on the right side of the screen. But nothing is in the journal and nothing is on the galaxy map.

Tali
's loyalty mission and it's probably the best thing in the game yet. I loved the setup, the action, and then the dramatic finale.

Yup, my feelings as well.

So I'm using a lady Shepard. Does anyone know which women characters are willing to lez out? The only one giving me any signals so far is the receptionist/psychologist.
