Time to get back to my insanity run through during the holiday break, just gotta make it through the first few levels. I somehow missed the fact that you could go through with a pre-existing level 30 character in a ME2 import playthrough and go from there on insanity, it would have made things a lot easier.

It's actually a little bit harder that way, in my opinion. All of your upgrades still get taken away, but the enemies are scaled to max level (where they're balanced against the idea that you have at least most of the upgrades).

So what's the best class, armor and bonus skill to use for an Insanity playthrough?
If you're asking which class is the best in terms of having the easiest time with Insanity, I would consider a Soldier or a Sentinel personally. Reave being a good bonus skill for either of them in terms of raw effectiveness (though the Sentinel can do really well with a few different abilities, like Energy Drain or Stasis). Armor is up to what you're playing (and how), so you'd have to decide what you're going to play before you get that far.
i bought ME2 from amazon the other week and have been enjoying it. i havent played an RPG for a reeeealy long time, so this is been pretty interesting for me.
kinda want the dlc, but i just bought Case West for 800 today and dont have any points left.

I'd argue that having a maxed adrenaline rush or cloak could help turn the tides in your favor, but as to whether that's enough to counter the maxed enemies depends on the class, I suppose.

See, I was wondering if Reave would still be worth it on a soldier without the bonus cooldown reductions from being a biotic class. Granted, there isn't that much else to use that's really useful in a lot of situations, but I was lean more towards dominate witha soldier.

It's hard to take any bonus power on a Soldier and make it useful, honestly. It's a hard sell over Adrenaline Rush most of the time. I suppose one I might choose over that would be the Geth Shield Boost, since you can get some mileage out of it with less cooldown interference (and you can evolve it into a damage bonus). I think I like that pick more now that I think about it.
honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if there is ME2 Gold/Ultimate edition with the DLC before Bioware puts it on sale. I too want to play the DLC before ME3.
Considering the focus on Cerberus, there's not much room for any connections with the Alliance. Even Keith David had a much reduced role with fewer lines as Anderson.

Agreed, but they still got Keith David to come back. Lance in one brief period did 3 Sasqautch movies, so the lack of ME2 isn't too big a deal for him...and yes I've seen all three. :lol
If I go through the red mass relay after my crew, is that the last part of the game, and will the game be over before I can return to finish up remaining quests?

Yeah, if you go through that relay it's a one-way trip until the main story is complete. Note that if you do too many quests after they've been grabbed you may not get there in time to save them.
You can do DLC after the ending (or mine some more!), not sure about the regular side quests. You should do all the loyalty missions before that, in any case.

Basically, this; this Mass Effect Wikia walkthrough entry has spoilerific specifics about what could happen to the crew if you really want to see them. Warning: uhh, spoiler.
Okay so, like everyone else, I've picked up ME2 in the past few days. Bought Shadow Broker blindly and don't have enough for any other pack. (Only 160 pts).
About 10-12 hours in, and my thoughts so far:
I'm really loving the technical enhancements from ME1. I went back to ME1 a few weeks ago with some friends and it was borderline unplayable to some of them because or jarring issues walking into geometry and such that I just didn't notice the first time, being so engrossed in the game.
The overall structure seems so much cleaner and streamlined. Animations appear better, everything seems refined. I do however dislike the new ammo system, as it doesn't really encourage much different play, and only forces you to switch weapons when you run out of ammo, not based situationally. And adding ammo clips somehow recomplicates what was already streamline well in ME1, with the heat sink each gun has.
As for the characters? I've only got Jacob, Mordin, Miranda, Grunt, Garrus (FUCK YEAH), Jack and Thane, if I'm not forgetting anyone. Jacob is a cool guy, Miranda lacks a clear distinct personality besides just having some sort of auxillary authoritative role to aid her character, and Grunt is nowhere near as awesome as Wrex. Thane interests me a lot, great character design, awesome dialogue and some classic but slightly unique motives.
Someone in another GAF thread said that the game doesn't advance the Reaper plot further, which kind of saddens me, but the tale of Shepherd's alliance with Cerberus is one that really seems to fit well with the Paragon/Renegade system, as it does make you question what you feel even if your going straight paragon or straight renegade. ME1 integration is also awesome.
Some questions for veterans:
1. Can I go back and get loyalties/explore the galaxy some more after the story is over?
2. How does the DLC fit in with the main game? Fully new worlds or missions on existing worlds or what?
3. Can I do new game+ for an insanity run or something with an already leveled character/weapons?
4. Does the ending depend on Paragon/Renegade more or specific decisions? I don't want my Shepherd to die :'(
Overall, enjoying it. Dunno if it's my GOTY, but I see why people would consider it GOTY material.

You can complete loyalty and side missions after the end of the game. It would be in your best interests to complete ALL loyalty and ship upgrades before the end of the game. Tip: For best results stick pretty doggedly to either paragon or renegade.
2. The DLC slides into the game. It's best to play Stolen Memory early to get the character and gun. I'd argue it's also worth unlocking LotSB as soon as possible because of the upgrades and superpower Stasis. 1 point in stasis will help any class. It's probably too powerful.
3. Yes, you can. However, there is some debate as to whether or not it's actually harder to play that way. I'm on the side that believes it is Importing from ME1 is the best way to go.
4. See #1.
Speaking of the ME Wikia.

12/29/2010 - New York City's Times Square Ball Moved to Presidium
The Earth city of New York is breaking with a centuries-long tradition this year to inaugurate a new one. The Times Square New Year's Eve ball, a crystal globe festooned in lights that descends in the last moments of the old Earth standard year, will be moved to the Presidium on the Citadel, where it will descend at precisely one minute before midnight, Eastern Standard [Earth] Time. In the ball's place on Earth will be a volumetric display of the Citadel ball, and giant monitors up and down Broadway will display the crowds on the Presidium. "We feel this is our year," said New York mayor Trudi Raspallo. "Humans are on the galactic stage now in a big way, and we invite the galaxy to celebrate with us."

Is it worth spending extra for a new copy of ME2 to get the Cerberus Network DLC and updates? I've been waiting on getting a good deal on this game. I regret that I missed the one Amazon had recently.

The manhunt is on once again for Rolan Quarn. The turian con man and thief is believed to have stolen the Times Square New Years Eve ball, sending event organizers on the Citadel and in New York into a panic. The time ball, which is four meters in diameter and weighs 5,185 kilograms in Earth gravity, disappeared sometime in the stations last night-cycle just two standard days before the New Years Eve festivities. While it is possible Quarn did not steal the ball, a paper note claiming responsibility and signed with his handprint was left at the scene of the balls disappearance. At this point we dont know if its still on the station, said a source in C-SEC who asked not to be named. Frankly, we dont even know how he got the thing into an elevator. It was fully assembled.
Got it on the Steam sale, put about 15 hours in already. I never finished ME1 on the 360 for reasons I can't recall, but I'm really enjoying this game. Shame I can't do the ME1 transfer thing, but whatever. About how long is the game?

Wait really? I think I waited too long. I did every loyalty quest and I also scanned every planet. I think I lost my entire crew for the most part. :lol
Does the timing also affect whether or not Kaiden will live or die?

I've played through all the classes and I'd say go with 1 of Adept/Sentinel/Engineer. Even if you're solid at shooters it is much easier just to stay crouched and toss biotic/tech damage than trying shoot stuff. You just don't die as much. If you roll with a character who can use sniper rifles and place them in safe spots, it works even better.
Forget about that kind of Mass Effect. Isn't going to happen. I wouldn't surprised if ME3 has a heavy metal music, no story and is a fps. That appears to be the direction Bioware are taking ME.
After the Collectors abduct the Normandy crew you'll have to start up the suicide mission immediately to save 'em all. By all I mean the crew and not your squad.
Quick question... is there any way to put off the auto progression of the story missions? I'm struggling to get everything done before getting the dreaded
the Illusive Man wants to speak to you
message.
Just too much to try and fit in with all the DLC. I know I can put off
using the relay after getting the IFF
but I was wondering if there's anything else I can avoid earlier.
Oh, and I wished they'd warned that squad skill rankings are permanent. I'm stuck with some useless stuff now because of the level cap / non loyalty.

If you want to chill and do other stuff, you'll need to do so during recruitment missions. However, if you really want to leave it you can wait until the
IFF mission becomes available
. Even though you're told of that mission and where to go, you dont activate it until you go there, so you can do whatever you want before, which I'd advise as doing stuff after is...not wise.
Dont forget that you can continue playing post end-game as well, so you can always go back and finish off side questions and DLC then.
Oh, and completing the Shadow Broker DLC allows you access to squad skill rebuilding, so you can fix all your screw ups. Its a life saver.
