Mass Effect 3 Demo Impressions [Online Open To All]

So is anyone having a physx issue with the demo and ME2? I tried starting ME2 to get a face code to paste into the demo and got a "out-of-date" physx issue that stopped it form launching.

Issue is apparently due to some compatibility issue with later versions of physx so I installed the version that came with ME2 on disc.
Of course this version is out-of-date with the demo, stopping it from launching.

At least it doesn't take long to change them...

We can travel faster than light but space surgery is still terrible.

Damn they see a Hispanic looking character (or black or mixed I don't know) voiced by and modeled after a black actress and she is "sooo goddamn UGLY". "OMG her lips aren't paper thin! She's horrible!".

Gaf is hilarious.

Demo was great. The Kinect voice stuff really impressed me, I found myself actually using it as opposed to pausing the action to select moves. Being able to say "follow" and have your squad group up on you was nice too.

Only thing that bugged me a bit was lip syncing. Still looks off to me.

Did Wrex's voice sound weird to anyone else?

Like the "krogan filter" was changed. When he talked to you over the radio he sounded almost entirely different.

All I could hear was Serious Sam. I'm wondering if they're voiced by the same person (but not enough to actually do any research).

WTF are you talking about? We have been complaining that her face is different for a while now (look at the lips for example, ME3's Ashley has a thinner upper lip) not about ethnicity. Geez.

Are voice commands available to the PS3 version via the headset? I hope they are...

I swear its like 80% of GAF already decided they were going into the demo hating it because EA now owns Bioware regardless of how great it is.

No, I hate it because everything about this demo is shit and it's the biggest gaming disappointment to me since Super Smash Bros Brawl.

I love EA, and I still dislike ME3.

The hell is wrong with you? Most people don't even know who voices her.

Then you must have hated Mass Effect 1 and 2 right? Cause this demo is as good if not better than the first 2 games and that is just in the 50 minute demo.

They have not changed how she looks. Derrick Watts said they only added makeup to her face, they are still using the same face scan from 8 years ago. People complaining how she looks different are basing this on lipgloss.

Edit: And oh thank heavens I found the demo. downloading now.

Ok have you seen the comments on the other page?

What's wrong with her lips?

they look stupid?

I admit it's a bad shot but I couldn't help taking it. She looks better in this one although, I find her being caked up and in lip gloss when she's in active duty kind of ridiculous

Ignore the abomination of a character I made

I find it funny that Ashley looks like a space bitch with too much plastic while Kaiden looks like the best male in the demo, might have to replay ME1 so I can kill ashley instead.

Mass Effect 1 is one of my favorite games of all time. I've purchased 3 copies of the game. It's fantastic. Mass Effect 2 is a bad game (bad RPG, really), but even it looks great in comparison to this.

I'd like to see how you came to that conclusion.

Honestly I don't expect anything from this demo. It's apparently mostly combat with extremely limited dialog choices and I truly could not care any less about the combat in this series in any of the games. I need to see me some RPG goodness.

Put me in the camp that wishes they actually did the trial though. It could have been a great suspense builder at the very start of the game if it was handled right.

Oh so you are one of those it's not RPG enough for you crowd. Again it has been obvious the direction they were taking with this series since ME 2, and it was obvious what they wanted to do with ME 1 but weren't sure how to do it.

I am in it for the story, and damn does it not look amazing in ME3. Finally a game that will reward the faithful that stuck with it since day one.

That's probably the big reveal of ME3, Ashley is a dude. You won't find out till the final scene of the romance arc.
by then it'll be too late!

I'm pretty sure the full game has a ton more dialogue options. The demo is just the bare minimum.

Yeah I didn't think the whole game was like that, probably just Bioware's idea of easing their crowd into the game. But it is apparently part of the demo so it's going to affect what I think of it.

Well some characters also had weird faces in ME2 (Hellooooo Miranda). I do think that some looks better in ME3 like Kaidan.

Kaiden does look better. In ME2 (looks to be in 3 as well) faces look good at some angles/in some lights, and terrible in/at others.

Speaking of bad looking faces, someone should take a screen cap of the "default" custom femshep face (the ME1/2 face) at the point in the demo where Shep give the renegade response on the Salarian planet. She frowns really hard and it looks fucking hideous.

I dont get why ashley's hair went from light brown to black textures. I haven't read Deception yet but hopefully its explained in there.

It actually is brown, this can be seen in the beta shots of her. It's the weird lighting and severe black crush that makes it look pitch black most of the time.

Yeah, that's a lie, or at least it was for the previous version of the face they showed. This one doesn't bother me too much but again, we've talked about the make up in other threads. It's just funny that we were basically called racists by that other dude for joking about her face.

Starting Genocide Run.

At character creation.

Do I model it after myself or use a celeb face?

GAF, DECIDE FOR ME.

Go with the third option, fugly Shepard.

It's the best way to do a Renegade run, trust me. You can't really blame him for being cranky with a face like that.

No any change you see is just lighting. The beta shots were different, but they changed it back to the ME1 version between now and then.

Finally managed to beat the demo on Insanity on my Engineer. Had a bad build (went full into Cryo to play around with), but even so, it was surprisingly difficult. With the way the map was set up, you rarely had the luxury of standing still. Enemies actually came at you (think Harbinger's AI), their grenades were absurdly powerful, the smoke bombs were annoying, and overall they seemed to take a lot more punishment than they could in ME2. Movement felt awkward though at times. I felt like I was going slower when I wasn't running, though it's been a while since I've played ME2, so it might be just me. Combat rolling...not sure who thought it would be a good idea, but a lot of the time it just got me killed, and I'm just not sure when I'd want to use it. Ditto for rolling from your cover to another cover directly. I'll probably get used to it when I actually get the game though.

Atlus fight was ridiculous. That thing takes so much punishment, and you have to deal with the four dudes he summons in while dodging him, while he brings your health down with a single hit. My Combat Drone doesn't keep him distracted like it could with YMIR mechs, and he refreshed his shields back to half shortly after I dropped them.

I'm really pleased with how challenging the gameplay looks like it'll be compared to ME2 Insanity. Obviously I was gimped due to weight system, but even still, it looks like fun.

Yes, I'm one of those "don't like it when a series changes genres one game in" kind of people

Indeed it doesn't.

The demo wasn't enjoyable, and I was anticipating it. We'll see.

what i liked:
music
more challenging gameplay
ran well on my computer, no crashes
multiplayer is great

what I didn't like:
graphics engine is getting old, lots of bad textures
multiplayer maps weren't designed very well
rolling

I'll save judgment on the RPG elements for the full game, since demos aren't the best way to gauge those.

Is there anyway to modify a 360 save? I don't have time to replay through both games to kill her.
