Mass Effect 3 Face Import Bug ME1 > ME2 > Nope ME3

Does the PS3 version allow you to select decisions you could have made from previous ME titles like the PS3 version of ME2 did? I.E. select decisions from ME1 then from ME2 while creating a new character?

I'd really like to get this for PS3 but all my saves are on 360.

Maybe not the whole point, but that you'll play from game 1 to 3 with your character and your decisions was always their biggest marketing statement.

indeed. I hope it can be fixed fast by letting ME3 use ME1 raw data. Like they did with ME2.

If playing with the same model is the most important thing for you, you should be playing something else.

thanks, I'll decide myself what I should play and what I should not and what features of the game are most important to me.

I tried playing with another Shepard.

All I could keep thinking is "Who is this imposter?".

Takes me out of the game. Hope it get's patched soon.

How could making sure that the gamer's custom Shepherd is transferable between games not be STEP ONE of the entire process, each time?
I know, so weird. I guess they developed a new character creation tool and then went *yikes* "oh damn, people might want to play with their character."

I don't think you can do that in the game, but afaik is there a tool you can download to your PC where you can mod a Mass Effect save game into any shape you like. I think these are also transferable to the consoles.

Edit: I think there's even a tool that let's you convert your Xbox saves into PS3 saves.

Sometimes I wonder if devs have a disconnect from their fanbase at times (read MOST of the time). Like they can't understand why someone (read MOST) would expect this feature to work in their game.

I used the default male Shep for ME1 and ME2. To me, that Dutch model IS Commander Shepard.

I went back into ME2, generated a new character, and manually copied my face code. Then I re-entered it into ME3.

It didn't look anything like him, even though all the settings were right. Kinda pisses me off that there might be a patch coming. Am I just not going to play the game any more until it comes out, and then start over? Admittedly, I'm only about an hour in, so it wouldn't be that big of a deal, but I've been looking forward to this for a while. And I'm not even convinced they'll get it quite right! Certain hairstyles, noses, etcs, are straight-up gone in ME3.

Really frustrating. I can't believe this one got by design; it seems pretty damn obvious.

Like many of you I thought it wasn't that big of a deal but I don't want to play the game now because of it. Doesn't feel right.

Best I could manually. The face is too fat and other things but I spent almost an hour trying to get it right :(

I think your ME3 Shepard looks better.

Strange that people are complaining about the face bug when it seems the whole 'importing game save doesn't import correct information' bug (i.e. saving Ashley in ME1 and getting Kaiden) is a much bigger problem, imo.

Hmm... I'm not sure the code generator got the eyes right for my Shep, they look a bit narrower than in ME1/ME2. EDIT: Actually it seems the be the closest one, some other parameter affecting that.

I've played each game multiple times, and was only annoyed at this bug. I simply made an approximation and told myself, Shepard's a little older, and a little more weary from his travels. I thought the whole point of the game was to stop the Reapers?

It all feels like those movie sequels where you couldn't hire the original actor, so you got someone who looks pretty much like him, but he's clearly someone else...

It's just so jarring.

This is stupid.

I actually spent a decent amount of time with the ME1 editor and almost got it to look like me. No amount of time spent with ME2 can come close to that. It's facial editor is terrible IMO and I'm guessing ME3 is the same.

I thought fewer people were complaining about this since it's less common, no?

If this happens with every import as well, I'll be none too happy.

Wow, guess I lucked out here. I screwed up my FemShep's face in ME1 (looking at her from the side it looked like she got hit by a sledgehammer). So I made tweaks to her face after importing to her in ME2, and had no problems importing her in ME3. Hope they find a way to get this sorted out, I can see how this kind of thing is important to hardcore ME fans.

I don't complain because I can fix this. I can't fix the face because I need exactly the same face. "Looks close" won't do.

the whole point of the game was to stop Reapers with your Shepard.

A strand of hair has been clipping through my character's forehead in ME2, wish I would have tweaked my character now with this issue popping up.

Has anyone checked to see if using the med bay to remove scars possibly solves this issue? I know it's unlikely but I'm just reaching for any ideas at this point.

I knew something was odd when I imported my default BroShep and the game asked me if I wanted to keep my custom one. (?)

A black guy with a moustache and orange hair. I felt tempted to accept.

I hope they provide some tool for replacing the face code on existing saves when they do fix it, for people who have already begun playing. I wouldn't count on it though.

Players were aware of the problem at least a week prior to launch. There was a huge thread on their forum discussing the issue. Also, there are only 2 places a custom character's appearance could have originated, ME 1 or ME 2. There is no one way Bioware was not well aware of the problem a long time before the general public found out. The only explanation that makes any sense, to me, is that they determined that it was not worth the effort. It's just another example of why people have come to distrust and dislike what Bioware has become.

Glad I wasn't alone, I had to remodel my Shepard's face because of this weird bug. I managed to create a near perfect replica of the previous face I had for Shepard so I'm not too terribly upset about this, but I do hope it gets patched in the future so that the importing of my other characters is much easier.

Have they even responded to it yet? I know that they're working on the Xbox Cloud bug where people can't import their save at all, but so far I haven't seen a single one from bioware acknowledging that the face bug exists.

Happened to me (360), but I honestly didn't mind because I was able to very closely recreate my FemShep in less than 10 minutes, and the character models look SIGNIFICANTLY better imo.

Exactly, I'm more upset that they still don't have a decent beard.

It's bugging me so much, he's just slightly off and it's pulling me out the game and I'm thinking about it instead of listening to what's going on :(

My guy is mostly close enough to his old version, though his eyes wound up bugging out a bit, so he seems to be in a perpetual state of mild terror. Also got the eye color wrong, whoops.

Crazy eyes. I got them too when I recreated my character due to the bug.

How does a bug this big get through QC? Dev realities?

Probably not the best place for this, but I'm afraid of spoilers in other threads...

If you don't import a character, do you get to choose what went down in ME1 and ME2 (like how they handled it in the beginning of ME2), or are you stuck with a preset selection of choices?

Either they have really shitty QA or they let it slip willingly, which makes them huge assholes. Either way, they're really bad.

No resource management issue can justify that. That would just make them bad at managing resources. Again, not my problem.

Happended to me, but I'm playing first as good Shepard and I don't have much attachment to her looks there. They better get this fixed before I start my evil Shepard playthrough!

If playing with the same model is the most important thing for you, you should be playing something else.

The whole series' main appeal is that everything from the previous game carries over to the next. The fact that one of the most important things (HOW YOUR CHARACTER LOOKS) is glitched in the release of this game is a testament to how shitty the QA was (I can't imagine QA not catching this so the only other option is Bioware didn't give a fuck to fix it). It's the first fucking thing to do in this game and they're telling us they didn't know about it? Bullshit. Fuck Bioware.

It was really late when I messed with it last night (I could be wrong) but they do lead you through some basic decisions in order to I guess set up the game

There is no way in hell they didn't catch this pre-release. If they're really claiming they didn't know that's a major insult to the intelligence of their audience.

I also like how this issue only affects people who have played ME1, ME2, and ME3. i.e., only BioWare's most hardcore fans.

Who needs 'em, right?
That's what I was thinking, too.

BW: Played all three games? We don't give a fuck. 8)

I tried using the fan-made tools, but they didn't work 100%. I ended up tweaking my character somewhat. He looks similar, but not identical -- like a fraternal twin.
