Mass Effect 3 SPOILER THREAD: LOTS OF SPECULATION FROM EVERYONE

I was about to rent Mass effect 3 from.Redbox.. I couldn't bring mu.self to do it .... not even for $0.86

Why would you have posted 800 posts around the clock for nearly a week in the spoiler thread if you didn't even have the game, and why would you rent it now if you have the game or sold it within the last week?

If anything, just turn it off when Anderson says "Feels like I haven't sat down in years".

Nah, wait until Anderson dies then Shepard looks at her own wound. Then it's a nice shot of them watching the battle, then you turn it off, knowing the crucible has worked and all the reapers are dead.

So I finished this yesterday, and I liked my ending. I came away from it feeling good. I guess I filled in the big blanks of the ending with my own imagination, and pondered what the future would be like because of my decisions (I picked the 'green' ending.)

Then I went and looked up the other endings, and that's all out the window. Now, I've been generally universally let down by WRPG endings - I know that they're always 30 second long slideshows just giving you 2 sentences about what happened because of each of your choices. I know that you can usually just reload your last save, and in the span of 3 minutes you can be watching a totally different ending - which usually completely destroys the impact "my" ending had on me.

So in comparison, the ME3 endings aren't that bad, but they just seem so goddamn cheap in comparison to the production values evident in the rest of the game. For a series with such a high budget, you'd think it wouldn't be unreasonable to come up with 30 seconds or so of unique CG for each ending. I think this would've gone a long way.

For the red ending, show Reapers flying around doing people's chores. Maybe show some sad people on earth, depending on how bad your ending was. For blue, show people rebuilding. Show any evidence that the geth are gone. Reusing your 30-second cutscene across all endings is just bush league bullshit that devs with less money have to do because they can't afford better. Bioware certainly should've been given the resources to do more - why they wouldn't boggles my mind.

That said, I'm really glad it wasn't a "happily ever after" ending, where Shepard returns and gives everyone on the team a big hug. There are already a million of those.

Another Bioware laziness here: why is it after the major end battle starts, you can't save manually anymore. That's BS. Auto-save is still on anyway so why can't I save manually anymore? So fucking annoying. I want to save and quit the game since I'm a bit tired but I'm not allowed to do that.

What pissed me off is that the autosave saved right when two Banshees were blasting me. I was lucky if the game didn't reload with me automatically dying. I had to immediately use a med kit and run away just to survive the first 3 seconds of my game loading.

Yeah, up until the moment where Hackett radios in, the game is more or less what you'd expect, albeit with very poor use of the 'war assets' idea, as they go largely unrepresented in the depiction of the final battle. If you press the power button on your console after Anderson and Shepard have their little chat, the ending is woefully abrupt but not awful.

At that point I had the high war assets, so I was expecting a nice Independence day cigar to watch the aliens blow up, and then a sudden way off the citadel opening up.

If I was in the room of anyone playing the game at that point I would just shut it off there for them. When they go all 'WTF MAN!' I'd just tell them they are better off that way.

If only they used the war assets to, off the top of my head, delay the reapers from destroying the crucible while Shepard crawled towards the control panel or something like that. Low assets, Shepard doesn't reach in time and everyone is dead. High assets, happy ending. Instead we got a dumb elevator of light.

Why not? I have nothing else to do. Most of my posts are from useing a phone on secondapps (which I don't think can use multiquote) . If I have beaten the game regardlesswhy can't I post here if I own it or not? If I had bought it(not my money, I have nothing) my posts would me full of rage due to... I don't even want to talk about it.

I seriously expected something like that.

But why would you rent it again within a week? There's nothing odd about not wanting to re-rent a game you just beat.

I was thinking about doing a full renegade playthrough, since I recently completed a full renegade file in me2, which only needed a few final missions completed. But for some reason I just couldn't do it.

So they can save for you before Cerberus HQ and the Kai Leng fight so you have to do aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall that again if you want to see the other endings or of course, play more DLC!

(actually, this isn't entirely true, I'm pretty sure I have a save on Earth before the downed Hammer shuttle)

Huh, I have an autosave right after the beam hit's shepard. I played all three endings relatively fast.

Strangely, after reloading the autosave where you're at the Hammer base, I was suddenly able to save there. I have my save just before the final push to the gate thingie.

It sends you to before the Cerberus mission, but it does leave a "Restart Citadel Mission" save so you can go through the Marauder Shields boss fight again if you want.

I assume it sends you to before Cerberus is so they can add pre-ending DLC missions.

I told this to my buddy who is a ME fan, dude, just tell me when you're about to finish the game, i'll drive over and switch off your console at the right time.
He's scared shitles about the ending :lol

Oh. See. I was so disgusted I just turned it off at the "Hai we're saving you here FOR OUR AWESOME DLC" message window and haven't looked at the game again.

I fully expect them at this point to recognise the financial opportunity making a DLC/retcon ending.

I find myself on the side against ending hate (the 2% from the poll above, as it were) because 1) I hate retconning and 2) I hate creators giving in to shitty fan demands because they want a brighter/happier ending with Shepard and his romance interest living happily ever after.

Fuck those guys.

edit: because I don't think I mentioned it before - I enjoyed ME3, even though the parts that make ME enjoyable to me are weakest in this game out of the entire series.

Many people have stated in this thread that a not happy ending is fine, if shepherd died a gruesome death and so did his whole normandy crew? Fine. Just not 3 endings that are literally 95% the same, and have numerous plot holes due to space magic and star kid bullshit.

The main problem I have with the Indoctrination theory is that it would be a lot of effort to explain it in game if there was a DLC ending or whatever. It's like the pages and pages of theories people used to have about Lost which were great but of course could never be in the show because they would require literally hours of exposition to explain.

Good lord, you have more posts in this thread alone than my entire post history! I bought the game full price (minus ten dollar credit from Skyrim) on Amazon.

And yeah, I feel ripped off. Not just because of the ending, I should add. The rest of the game is a mediocre third-person shooter that is only held up by the nice character moments that this entry didn't itself earn, since all the characters were introduced and developed over the past two games.

THE SHEPARD IS LEGEND GO BUY DLC LOL

"The Stargazer is a character in Mass Effect 3. Following the conclusion of the game, he is seen to be finishing his tale of "The Shepard" to a child. He states that it happened long ago, and that many of the details have been "lost in time". The child asks to be told more, and the Stargazer replies that it is getting late, but there is time for one more DLC"

The fact that Joker, who kept trying to fly the Normandy when it was effectively a pile of rubble, and only stopped because Shepard physically dragged him out of the cockpit, would just fly away from the conflict, is pretty unbelievable.

My guess is that at one point there was a whole sequence where Joker flies down to london and finds companions still alive, with Shepard already having gone through the beam. Shepard then gets in contact from within the Citadel and gives him the order that there is nothing more he can do there and to get as far away from the crucible as possible.

Can someone explain the Maurauder shield joke to me? I don't get it.

I'm guessing yes? I kept trying to find that ending.

Well there's a synopsis of it thats relatively easy to find. It's not that different but it's just that some stuff appears to be cut that could've explained some things better. The "Hammer" operation and the approach to the beam seem to have changed significantly. It orginally was more along the lines of the ME2 ending (assigning squadmates etc.) and at one point the Normandy swooped in to help you (that could at least explain why it picked up your squadmates). Still the 3 ending choices were essentially the same.

If Bioware end up going with the Indoctrination theory and follow it up with DLC that expands/concludes the ending, I think it will have been a clever but dickish little ploy. If not the ending is one of the most truly inept, dissapointing pieces of shit I have ever invested myself in. I think a lot of die-hard ME fans would probably feel the same way. The ball is in Bioware's court.

We've had some incredibly positive reactions to Mass Effect 3, from the New York Times declaring it “a gripping, coherent triumph”, to Penny Arcade calling it “an amazing accomplishment”, to emails and tweets from players who have given us the most profound words of appreciation we've ever received.

But we also recognize that some of our most passionate fans needed more closure, more answers, and more time to say goodbye to their stories—and these comments are equally valid. Player feedback such as this has always been an essential ingredient in the development of the series.

This quote form Casey Hudson gives me some hope. The whole statement seems to be about saving face in a very PR sort of way, but he does concede that people are not happy with the ending.

That would have been great, had they actually shown any indication of that, whatsoever.

I remember the ME2 ending thread when people were trying to use the Pythagorean theorem to determine how fast the Reapers were flying from Dark Space to get back to the galaxy.

ME2 just shat all over ME1, or Vigil was woefully inaccurate.
ME2 then shits on itself, and then ME3 shits on it.

What about other galaxies? The galaxy map feels nice and big, but I find it almost surprising we haven't talked to any other galaxies.

My biggest problem with all the VI conversations is that they always instantly know who and what you are talking about even though you use names that they would have no understanding of (trying to torturously end this sentence without a preposition but giving up here). AH YES THE ONE YOU CALL SAREN YES I KNOW

What they really cut you assigning squad mates/resources to effect the outcome. Why would you ever do that. I think I'm starting to fall into the they ran out of time camp and just needed the game out before the end of the fiscal year.

This was actually answered in the leaked script:

Code:
Shepard: Is it possible to communicate with other galaxies?

Vent God: NO YOU CAN'T!

Well, the reaping cycle is 50'000 years. Roughly enough time to reap all galaxies with sapient life and returning to the Milky Way. It's basicly a mail route.
