It's in their best interests to promise that right now, since it will prevent more disappointed players from selling their game back.I wonder what would happen to Bioware's reputation if they did end up caving, and creating a new ending via patch or DLC. They can't go any further in the internet's shitter, can they?

The best rationale is probably the manner of destruction made the difference. The relays blow up using their energy to create the change you wanted, and once spent up they fell apart. In Arrival you rammed an asteroid into a relay, and released that energy in a colossal explosion. No matter what you do, you kill BILLIONS OF PEOPLE. Hell, you probably just destroyed Earth!
Did no one think of this!?

Reaver Rachni still exist. If you kill the queen in ME1, the reapers clone her. Afterwards, if you let her go, unlike the real queen, the duplicate double-crosses you and takes out her 100 or so war assets later on in the game.
It's one of those things that I guess the developers thought everyone had to see as part of the main plot, no matter what.
If you don't kill the Rachni queen, she reappears in ME3 and you're once again given the chance to kill her or set her free. If you set her free, she becomes an ally. You can even have Grunt survive if you did his loyalty mission in ME2 so he'll make it out in time.
If you did kill the queen earlier, a construct of the Rachni queen is present that was made by the Reapers. It appeals for help and freedom but if you do set it free, it supposedly betrays you and leaves the war effort.
Commander Shepard has become a legend by ending the Reaper threat. Now you can continue to build that legend through further gameplay and downloadable content.
No. Go fuck yourself.
I don't really know why, but I felt insulted by that little aftermessage.
That is the biggest crock of shit ever. I think this is my main beef with this series. They advertise and make you think the games are all about CHOICES and CONSEQUENCES but for the most part it doesn't fucking matter at all. All of it is a fucking illusion.
Because Morinth is an evil bitch?Just woke up and I'm still mad.
Also why did Samara get a good portion of screen time but Morinth got an email and a generic banshee appearance?
Fuck.
But how would they get around?I'd actually like to see what happened in the decades/centuries following the mass relay collapse. It's like the Hyperion novels where humanity's way of traversing the galaxy disappeared in an instant, leaving billions stranded in odd places around the galaxy. It's an interesting concept.
They're all actually a new kind of Thorian. Everyone who stepped out of the Normandy gets eaten because it's silly to assume that plants weren't actually plotting our doom this whole time. Now they have the power: they have achieved perfection. Shepard continues being the avatar of mass extinction, even from beyond the grave.wonder what the leaves are thinkin' bout now that they're cyber-leaves

I still don't know what I feel besides ill and without appetite. Did I really care about Mass Effect this much?Anyone else having withdrawals? I feel like I'm missing something.
I know I did. Now that you mention it, I only ate a bit for breakfast and a bit for dinner. What's happening?I still don't know what I feel besides ill and without appetite. Did I really care about Mass Effect this much?![]()
ships can travel faster than light without mass relays, just strap on a big enough fuel tank and prepare for a long ride. But how would they get around?

But all the fuel spots were right next to the relays! There's no space gas.ships can travel faster than light without mass relays, just strap on a big enough fuel tank and prepare for a long ride.
We need a collective group hug.Tried starting a new game, heard Liara mention "Crucible" and had to turn it off because I felt ill.

Best ideas I can think of:edit: Actually, what IS the point of merging with synthetic parts? To prevent a war with robots that rebel against us? As humans we are all made of the same stuff, and we still fight with each other anyway. Would being a cyborg enlighten us so much that we all live happily ever after? How boring.
But then they'll end up killing themselves. They don't, that's the point. Each stranded community has to fend for itself, creating all sorts of interesting societies.

I'm actually considering trading in the CE discs just because I have no serious desire to replay. Well, and the relatively minor variance doesn't help (and the fact most of that variance involves killing characters I'm at least somewhat attached to). The fact the CE discs actually look different is the biggest thing holding me back, unlike FFXIII-2 which didn't have that defense (and I DO want to grab that again, I just wanted to throw more money into Xenoblade for now.)I started a new game but I just got depressed because I already know everything basically gets blown up at the end with no closure. The rest of the game was pretty good too but that ending salts me up too much to play it again.
But then they'll end up killing themselves.

(This is how I feel most people feel.)
Honestly, I think most of us actually do have PTSD now.I did like the small touches like the PTSD Asari and the girl waiting for her parents shuttle.
I'm sure this has been brought up already, but...did anyone try shooting the Keepers at the end? I didn't...
Everything's okay, you guys, because we all die anyway.

Galactic civilizations don't die, not on my watch!
I've probably been spoiled. The most epic fantasy wars end in a better place... LOTR, Babylon 5, DS9... not used to it ending like this.
I was really looking forward to Shepard's version of "Get the hell out of our galaxy!"
I don't care who writes it, I just want to have a happy ending.![]()

I don't care about a happy ending so much as a satisfying one befitting of the series. This just feels like "well, we reached the end. Let's blow a lot of stuff up." The fact there's relatively minor changes does not help at all either, KotOR's ending was kind of limp but it could manage more significant changes at least.I don't care who writes it, I just want to have a happy ending.![]()
Just finished the game. Joining the "Ending was disappointing" club.
Have not not watched BSG? I think it's a good way to prepare yourself for this ending in a way.Galactic civilizations don't die, not on my watch!

I was thinking the same thing yesterday. Bought Mega Man X on Wii, and with the ME3 ending still fresh in my mind and Mega Man X really pulls off the whole organics and synthetics thing well. The idea of a synthetic strike force to take on rogue syntetics is in itself a pretty good idea. By the ZX games, synthesis has happened naturally. Humans became closer to reploids due to cybernetics and reploids became closer to humans through organic additions and in the end, they were pretty much the same. And that's a series of platform games that really don't need more story than "8 enemy robots are attacking! Destroy them and take their power so you can defeat the badguy who sent them."It's pretty sad when you can point to Mega Man as a series that did this thing better.
The last two pages are filled with lulz. You guys are in top form tonight.
I love this thread, it's my support group.
Man the purpose of the Crucible went in a strange direction. I figured it would be a weapon of some sort. It was pretty cool how it was revealed to be the combined work of all other races killed in their cycles and I could really get behind the entire galaxy finally coming together to get the job done and finishing it. Then our prepared forces decide how well the weapon works and if we get a happy ending or not.
Let's just say I wasn't expecting robot leaves to be the real outcome of all that hard work
you guys here have probably heard something like this a thousand times already so I apologize for bring it up again. I just had to get this out so I can move on. The ending just makes me feel bad
