Mass Effect 3 Spoiler Thread |OT2| Taste the Rainbow

Completely disagree. Thought the second half especially around Tuchanka was much better than the earlier parts.

Haha, it was in response to Dresden's comment about DE:HR, not ME3. ME3 actually got really good the further it went (up to its unfortunate end). Human Revolution started strong but then sort of lost steam the longer it went, to the point where it's weak ending sort didn't bother me because I was already somewhat numb.

he is talking about deus ex human revolution

the endings where weak there, but it didn't matter .....
even the bad boss battles didnt matter cause the game has a lot of strengths....
mass effect is not a top rpg not a top shooter.
the story, univerce, characters and choices are(were?) its top-thing and this is why the ending has such a negative impact......
i think the situation is simple....

Well, the fact that the final level was mediocre helped to numb the pain of the mediocre endings. ME3's final level has a bunch of problems and should have numbed the pain of the crap ending, but I think the Anderson speech raises your expectations towards the ending before they come crashing down seconds later.

Did Bethesda base Colin Moriarty in Fallout 3 on the real-life Moriarty? Both are dickheads who think they're better than everyone.

no wonder IGN gave it a 96!
AKA cliche, 100% closure ending.

Maybe an epilogue with Shepard and Liara's kid going off to Grissom Academy.

I had no problems with ME3's endings. I don't really care if the trilogy has complete closure or not.
So you're fine with Joker, the normandy and the 2 people you ran to the beam with all jumping into a gigantic plothole?

Why don't you read up on why people don't like the endings

Some closure at all would be nice at least.

Well, to be fair, depending on who you talked to in the game and how often, the two people may or may not be the ones who pop out of the Normandy. Of course, chances are that your love interest and your favorite character are in your party for the end. The fact that Bioware could have at least removed one of the WTF factors of that particular segment by having some kind of flag that prevents people from your party popping out of the Normandy shows how much thought Bioware put into the ending.

Having a happy ending is not the same as having closure, nor is it the same as feeling satisfied by the events that happened.

I had NONE of those feelings when the credits were rolling.

It blows my mind that people don't even see the problem.

No one asked for a cliche ending. No one asked for a happy ending. Maybe if you people actually took out the effort to read you would realize this.

Well said.

So basically everyone wanted Mass Effect 3 to end like HP: Deathly Hallows?

Nope. DH's epilogue sucked because it was at once maddeningly vague with the repercussions of what happened to the world afterward and yet also too revealing with details that didn't matter; the way all these characters seemed frozen in time with their high school crushes, had kids, with the hokiest names ever. It read like fan-fiction.

A good epilogue to ME3 would have at least given you some idea what the consequences of your actions were, reflect on its themes in a CLEAR manner (and not introduce contradictory ones at the last second), and close out the universe and characters on a more definitive note, with the sense that you can logically figure out where they go from here.

That's your "2 cents"? Okay.

*throws User33's "2 cents" into the sewage*

Why do the gaming press continue to call this a controversial ending

since when did controversial become a synonym for fucking stupid and terrible

I don't necessarily want closure. I want an ending that makes sense.

who stopped the charity???

From my understanding, the person leading up the drive, was asked to end it by Child's Play because people were assuming that Child's Play was affiliated with or supporting the RetakeME3 movement. So a 80,000 cap was set and when it was reached, they ended the drive.

The sad thing is that you can't even give them credits for making an original ending. The 3 choices are basically copy pasted from the first Deus EX and the whole "oh no space travel is now going to be really difficult from now on because we beat the bad guy" is entirely lifted from Xenosaga III.

Now that's just petty. Refusing to take money? Yeah, like the charity that gives toys to hospice children is going to catch any significant flack because they're affiliated with a totally legal video game cause du jour.

Hello everyone,

As of today, I have set an end goal for our fundraiser at $80,000.

The very idea that we would even be able to reach that goal was a fever dream only a week ago. I don't believe anyone can or should consider this effort to have been anything but spectacularly successful. As evidenced by the statement from Dr. Myzuka yesterday, we have made our voices heard. Those of you here have taken special care to be heard in a polite, positive manner, and I believe that this is a major contributor to that success.

We have shown our sincerity and passion. We have brought positive attention to the Retake Mass Effect movement.

Make no mistake. This effort has been victorious.

I have been in contact with a manager at Child's Play. First, he wanted to stress how grateful they were for our efforts here, and the huge impact it will have in helping the charity. However, he pointed out that several sources are incorrectly assuming a link between the charity and the petition, or outright support of the petition by the charity. This has been a source of difficulty for them, and it has been requested that we wind this effort down. Again, I want to stress that the charity is not unhappy with our work, they are exceptionally pleased with what we have accomplished.

There will be conspiracy theorys regarding this. Many of the public statements by Penny Arcade have been dismissive or outright derogatory of our effort. I believe this is a failure on their part to understand our issues, but they are entitled to their opinion. Regardless, I want to stress that I do not believe for one second that this is an attempt by anyone at Penny Arcade to silence this movement.

I also want you all to know I am acting unilaterally in this decision. I have been provided many eloquent arguments against winding down the drive and I appreciate them. In the end, however, I believe that now is the time for this phase of the process to come to an close.

Retake Mass Effect is not over by any means; Dr. Myzuka's statement was welcome, but did not directly address our concerns. You have been heard. Now it is time to make sure they get the details right :)

I will be taking a break from BSN for a time. My sincerest thanks to everyone who has supported this effort whether through donations, publicity, or kind words. Special thanks to the core group here who kept this thread polite, positive, and on track.

I hope to soon have an archive of the comments made on the ChipIn page located at www.wewillholdtheline.org.

To everyone here - my thanks, and I salute you.

Sincerely,

Robb

It's unfortunate, this drive was probably the best thing to come out of this situation.

DING DING DING

Seriously, something needs to dawn upon most of the gaming press and ending supporters that the opponents do not want a happy end or one that wraps up every single loose end to ever come to fruition in the series, past and present.

The opponents just wanted an ending that made some semblance of sense, not one that was completely inane in the confines of its own established canon and setting.

I hope the new ending stuff doesn't fuck up the indoctrination theory.

I never thought I'd be one of "Those Guys" believing in an ending theory like this, but I really came around on it the more I looked into it.

Maybe it's just me hoping it's true since it undoes all the stupid. Maybe I'm just hoping Bioware is SLIGHTLY more clever than I thought they were (I don't think the theory is THAT clever, but we're talking about a videogame here). Either way it makes me feel more satisfied in a completely unsatisfying ending, which is all that matters to me.

Oh well, I guess I'll find out one way or the other in April. :\

I'm watching the top 10 reasons we hate ME video and one of 'em bugs me. He makes a big deal about people being stranded but conveniently forgets that FTL travel is absolutely a thing that exists without the mass relays. I mean, you spend half the game doing it, how did he forget?

There's not enough fuel and the Reapers targeted fuel depots for a reason.
