Mass Effect 3 Spoiler Thread |OT2| Taste the Rainbow

Now that's just petty. Refusing to take money? Yeah, like the charity that gives toys to hospice children is going to catch any significant flack because they're affiliated with a totally legal video game cause du jour.

I think the money would be better off being sent to charities whose efforts fund research into combating and eliminating childhood ailments -- especially in light of Child's Play's organizers' bizarre request.

Toys for sick children are great. But I'd rather they have superior treatment. Or even some of their bills paid by charitable funding.

Is it petty of me to wish that the money would go to a charity outside the gaming community that wouldn't succumb to bullshit like this?

From my understanding, the person leading up the drive, was asked to end it by Child's Play because people were assuming that Child's Play was affiliated with or supporting the RetakeME3 movement. So a 80,000 cap was set and when it was reached, they ended the drive.

What the..... seriously.. ?

This whole thing gets stranger and stranger. Stopping charity because someone somewhere thought the organization has the same views as the the donors? This donation was the best thing to come out of this mess.

I hope it ends indoctrination theory. If it runs with it, I'll lose all hope in BW.

Yeah... what I really, really, don't get about the indoctrination theory is this: Best case we receive a free "gotcha" DLC, but more then likely we have to pay to wake up... That doesn't exactly make Bioware look good to me.

Of course, I'm also going by the old cliche saying "Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence" so I'm sticking with just stupid writing.

I'm watching the top 10 reasons we hate ME video and one of 'em bugs me. He makes a big deal about people being stranded but conveniently forgets that FTL travel is absolutely a thing that exists without the mass relays. I mean, you spend half the game doing it, how did he forget?
FTL travel is meaningless at the distances they have to travel. Theres no fuel, they have to compensate for drive discharging , supplies, the potential lack of resources, decimated colonies and populated planets. Its not good state for the galaxy to be in.

AKA cliche, 100% closure ending.

Maybe an epilogue with Shepard and Liara's kid going off to Grissom Academy.

I had no problems with ME3's endings. I don't really care if the trilogy has complete closure or not.

No. The current ending forces you to accept a notion that contradicts everything you've learned about synthetics during Mass Effect 3 and previous games in the series. The holographic space (asshole) kid tells Shepard that synthetics will inevitably destroy organics, and the only way to avoid total eradication of organics is to... kill organics. You're not really given a choice in the matter. You could select your explosion color, but you can't even attempt to refute his assumption. You're expected to accept that this ridiculous notion is valid, even though the only synthetic race that appears in the series allowed the aggressors of the Morning War to flee so that they wouldn't be killed. In a few instances, the Geth are shown to be a more compassionate, peaceful race than their organic creators, the Quarians. But in the last few minutes of Mass Effect 3, you're essentially told that everything you've learned until that point is wrong and meaningless.

A new charity campaign will be announced soon. The Retake movement has done too much good to stop now.

It's not about furthering our goals, it's about doing something to help others.

I'll keep you all up to date.

I wish Evilord is a more vocal guy and organize expo and charity stuff.

I really don't care about the two morons from Penny Arcade.

At least they're not all dead.

And by the by, if people didn't realize the ending wasn't going to make a damn bit of sense after the talk you have with Harbinger at the end of ME2 then they can only blame themselves. It was immediately obvious at that point that BW had no idea how they were going to explain the Reapers.

I really want to create a thread about this(the charity thing). It's amazing that this much got donated and it's shameful about the responses to it.

Is it petty of me to wish that the money would go to a charity outside the gaming community that wouldn't succumb to bullshit like this?

No, I don't think that is petty. I'm just sadden by that fact that, someone would send hate mail to a charity, even if they were affiliated with the movement (which they weren't).

I hope it ends indoctrination theory. If it runs with it, I'll lose all hope in BW.

Fair enough, I guess.

In my opinion if it's false: Bioware looks bad for making an awful ending to an otherwise great trilogy of games.

If it's true: Bioware is slightly more clever than I thought, and no further harm is done. I can understand people like yourself not enjoying it because it means they didn't actually END the story in the base game, or not enjoying it because you feel fooled or ripped off by the twist.

I guess I'd rather take a decent twist ending than an extremely poorly made straight forward ending. Maybe the stuff they'll add will fix the straight forward ending and I wont hate it as much, or maybe it will support the indoctrination theory and you wont hate it as much.

...Or maybe they'll fix nothing and nobody will be happy (other than "game journalists").

Not at all.

As I said, there are other charities that are happy to accept donations, and will use the money received to fund treatments and cures or provide financial assistance to an ill child's family.

These charities aren't so well promoted on Penny Arcade, though.

What's your guys favorite mission anyway? Tuchanka for everyone? Agreed.

I have been in contact with a manager at Child's Play. First, he wanted to stress how grateful they were for our efforts here, and the huge impact it will have in helping the charity. However, he pointed out that several sources are incorrectly assuming a link between the charity and the petition, or outright support of the petition by the charity. This has been a source of difficulty for them, and it has been requested that we wind this effort down. Again, I want to stress that the charity is not unhappy with our work, they are exceptionally pleased with what we have accomplished.

There will be conspiracy theorys regarding this. Many of the public statements by Penny Arcade have been dismissive or outright derogatory of our effort. I believe this is a failure on their part to understand our issues, but they are entitled to their opinion. Regardless, I want to stress that I do not believe for one second that this is an attempt by anyone at Penny Arcade to silence this movement.

Seems fair to me. A lot of people are expecting something other than specified and the fact that PA, normally a large contributor, has taken a position against it might influence some things as well.

Moving towards a poll on facebook or something would be wiser at this point. Donating money is great and all, but it also has to be for proper reasons and not lead to unrealistic expectations (like wanting to see the result of the donated money on short term).

This highlights the core problem to their method of defining the Reapers. They should've stuck to a plan from the start for why they behave the way they do rather than going "hey, let's make an all destroying group that comes every 50,000 years, THEN figure out the motivation for the last game!" Not that that guarantees it'll work out great, Dark Energy could've been botched in a lot of ways, but when you know their motive you can work out a more interesting, natural way for them to achieve this rather than BSing this at the last second and coming off as completely fake and arbitrary.

Thessia for me. I romanced Liara throughout and the devastation throughout that mission was palpable. Being defeated by that asshole KL and then being called to action to save a squad, even as shepard has already had enough, ONLY to have a reaper TD right on top of them was so great/sad. Also Liara lashing out at Javik and shepard post-mission was fantastic.

Guys, I know there's a Genesis comic to skip through the events of ME1 and quickly make choices for ME2. My question is, is there a type of comic for ME2 yet so that you import a quick save without having to play through again?

Just wondering. Thanks.

Nope, you can only decide who has died "Numerous, Ashely or Kaiden"

Probably the planet I was most excited to go to, but it ended up being a pretty small and mediocre mission in my opinion. The temple part was cool, but it was unfortunate that you only got to visit the planet so late in the game where the reapers had already fucked everything over. The bit at the end was pretty sad though.

i have a problem with the first branch

isn't the left branch...pretty much the plot to every sci fi thing that has ever included AI...ever?

I loved it, the constant fighting, it was short but sweet.

As an adept, I was fucking tearing shit up, audio popping/tearing with all the biotic combos, it was damn awesome, IMO

I kind of feel we don't really need another ME3 thread, and the bizarreness of the story (giving to money to Child's Play to show support for changing a video game ending) will probably invite more rubberneckers to say "I don't get it, is it too sad or people aren't smart enough to get it?" and "wow raise money to change a videogame what dorks"

Nope just some of them. Its a very general idea that would need more fleshing out to make it interesting. All basic story ideas are old.

Galactic Fork

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
I'm not sure where the desire to explain the reapers comes from. They tried to explain it in the ending and it was a horrible thing. I was completely on board with the Reapers until the chat with the one on Rannoch. Ancient beings that basically farm the galaxy, and see civilizations as nothing more than crops or livestock is fine. That's how both Sovereign and Harbinger made it sound. Then they fucked it up with the whole "we're saving you from yourselves, and organics are chaotic" crap that always comes with robots choosing to destroy all humans in literature."

it's still a stupid chart, because you can just fill the left hand box in as far as you want and arrive at any preconceived nonsense at the end

you can reduce any plot to a single line and then say 'IF YOU FILL THIS SHIT IN IT MIGHT BE INTERESTING'

romeo and juliet? 'BOY MEETS GIRL...COULD BE INTERESTING?'

AND I HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED ME3

Aaaaaaaaaalso, it would seem like it was inviting people to bash Child's Play over it. No matter what influenced the decision, it's been made and trying to shame a charity seems just as petty, if not moreso, then asking the drive to end.

Did you bring Javik with you?

On my playthrough, I brought Ash and when Liara keeps talking about the goddess, Ash keeps making comments like "Oh, you mean the Prothean?" I was wondering what Javik would say.

That was also my favorite mission. I actually felt like we had no chance for a moment even though I knew it was just another obstacle. Nothing Shep can't overcome.

Well, except Space Child. Can't overcome that obstacle. He's not high-level enough.

Oh my god. This is too good. Please, someone try to defend this.

well, the second branch is actually what ME3 states, so...

The Yagh for instance, are left alone. It's just that "immediately" is kind of hard when you have a gazillion systems running at different speeds of evolution and all. They only get to fuck everyone up once per cycle, after all.

I can't wait for us to be called entitled whiners by half the internet again! And how this is now the most embarrassing moment in gamer history, topping the previous ME3 ending related topic.

I don't understand the whole "paying Charity to get our ending" thing. Wouldn't it make more sense to give the money to Bioware so they don't complain about lack of money? I mean, if people want to call us 'entitled', may as well show that we have the money to facilitate our entitlement? I guess I'm just not good at the whole transparency thing. If I want something then I'll go directly for what I want not beating around the bush for it.
