Mass Effect: Andromeda - The First 45 Minutes (Gamespot)

What is going on with the faces?

I mean, I'll bitch about BioWare games but some of these faces and animations look way worse than Inquisition. Like Dad Ryder looks like he has a facial tic and his eyes are practically clipping through his eyelids. What is going on?

Faces look off.

People need to chill with the word hate.

I watched a scene with a death and it was the most emotionless scene I've seen in quite some time.. Every character on screen was devoid of emotion. It cringe worthy..The character creator will be a challenge, the eyes on the Ryders I've seen are comical. So much jank.

Edit: Liam is okay. The rest, good lord.

Asian dad ryder looks cool.
I thought the change to dad ryder was going to be minimal even if it was a great change the character you had, but seems it chnages pretty nicely.

The eyes of characters are still completly dead though, they really need, or someone needs to mod a little twinkle in the eye to make them more natural. Now they just look like if it was a flat colour.

Is it just me or is the framerate running at sub-30 almost all the time? Seems like it's more choppy than smooth.

Watching the gameinformer stream, oh dear with the long winded
scanning stuff with camera zooms and time wasting travel animations :(

Not to derail but hollyshit the collectors edition of Mass effect the one with the remote controlled car, doesn't come with the fucking game??

Here's the Gamespot video.

You done fucked up Bioware/EA.

So by the sounds of it, the game may well require some improvements through patches. Par for the course at this point.

Going to start playing the trilogy for the first time before playing this. Is the framerate this bad in the original games?

First game has pretty poor framerate and load times. But is worth playing for the great story. Stick to the main quests to limit frustration. (although it was all amazing at the time, I did every little bit). 2 and 3 peform much better. Talking 360 here, ps3 versions are bad.

PC is the way to go if you can, obviously. There are great controller mods too if k/m puts you off.

Also while the end of 3 can be a disspointment if you pick one of the awful endings (control, synthesis I am looking at you). But don't be indoctrinated by the hate (Or the reapers), go with destroy and then read this - www.masseffectindoctrination.com

to appreciate how amazing the ending can be.

Also regardless of whag the philistines say, 3 is the best in the series.

This is not unusual recently. They realize some people want the digital version, so they stopped including the game. Or that people want a pre-order benefit from one retailer or another.

Is it possible that the 1080p60 and 720p60 Youtube quality setting on a 30FPS stream is causing the stutter? Any better with it just on 480p? Just for testing sake?

Yes, this is clearly labeled and is actually a better consumer option since it unlinks the physical items from a version of the game that may or may not be available for them.

But it does't even come with the digital code. They would have done much better if they had sold the ME Nomad as an RC car model without attaching it to the game as a special edition because the two have very different connotations.

This has been known forever. Why do people care? You buy the CE and then the version of the game yoj want, why is that hard? This way you wont have a situation where someone wants the Xbox One Deluxe Edition with remote control Nomad but they only have the PS4 version in stock. Makes perfect sense to me. Also allows me to get the game discounted from my preferred outlet. Or people want the game digitally on console but the CE extras.

Baffled by how this is upsetting or confusing to people.

guys I am not trying to hate but this game coming on the heels of Horizon and Zelda.. Yeesh it looks like amateur hour.

still sort of hype.

Persona 5 is like a few weeks away too.

It's been done a million times by other devs and pubs too. Don't put the blame solely on EA/Bioware. Anyone remember the Wolfenstein CE? This shit throwing needs to stop.

The character creation screen is here incase someone hasn't seen it already. Some of the faces look fantastic, especially the one they edit. Very realistic.

Nope I don't know why it gets the hate it does.

Especially when people try to put down its story. I liked its story more than DAO tbh.

DA:I is a good game and most people liked it initially. Then the hate train came strong post Witcher 3 which turned out to be miles ahead in terms of side-quest quality and graphics. People love to just compare and derisively comment on the lesser of the two.

Looks technically awful, what happened to Bioware?

Bioware (and Bethesda) need to get over their janky animations from 2011. These simply don't do justice to the beautiful frostbite engine graphics.

There's a nice two or three minute cutscene during which Ryder is holding her gun with her wrist.

Eh, in spite of the (many) red flags as we've neared release, I'm still sort of excited.

It's an incredibly dull opening with no sense of intrigue wanting me to know more whatsoever and the lip syncing is hilarious, but as a fan of the series i'm probabaly going to have to pick it up anyway.

Good: (put one in spoilers since it sort of reveals something specific in the video)

The vistas they had looked really nice. I like the bizarre terrains and such they showed, very cool.

I like how almost instantly there's a mystery. Weird "dark matter" stuff around the planet, the planet itself not being as hospitable as expected, random hostile alien race, etc. Exploring looks like it'll be fun!

The voice acting sounds good.

The combat (both from here and the multiplayer video) looks fun, I like the new jet pack thing.

Bad:

Animations, particularly the facial animations. They just look really bizarre, like the mouth poofs out when they speak. The eyes are also pretty weird.

Oh god some of the dialogue is bad. The actual voice acting is fine but the lines themselves... woof.

The faces and animations in the first 3 ME games were way more believable than what I just saw. Did they cut the animators' salaries or just hire a bunch of interns? What the hell is this? How could something like this pass by so many desks and not get corrected?

ME was one of my favorite games but I'm gonna be waiting for reviews on this one.

How is it shit throwing when the video is by GameSpot and they open the steel book to show nothing. Why include a steel book then? And I do remember all the shit Wolfenstein got for pulling the same thing. This is no different. Doesn't make sense when many if not most publishers/developers ship the game with the collectors edition.

I was actually creeped out a bit by Ryder's dad before they got on the shuttle. His eyes... like the entire eye was basically black. Looked totally bizarre. His eyes sort of reminded me of Thane.

I keep wanting to get excited for this game. Environments look nice and I'm sure the gameplay will be fine, but almost everything else just looks...bad. Like what is this writing? I love the concept of the game but almost everything they've shown about the execution of the story has been awful. I hope that it's actually good and just hidden behind this bad opening and all the other trailers.

IGN is playing it now:

https://www.twitch.tv/ign

Appears to be the PC version. Looks and runs way better than the PS4 version on the OP's video.

Well, the lighting and shadowing look better, as does the framerate. Since it's twitch I can't really saymore than that.

Looks a little rough in places and the lip sync is pretty awful but the game still seems fun overall.

I'll be playing on PS4 Pro where Shinobi in his thread said performance is near rock solid 30fps.

I'm hoping the story and side quests are compelling (and dialogue is better later on) and that should be mostly enough for me.

*scrambles back to beating horizon*

Good lord the animations are that GIF over and over. Also everyone's eyes look dead. Feels like I'm watching an episode of Robot Chicken minutes the funny.
