Mass Effect |OT| Alien love in an elevator

I've been replaying the game and just came across the "Forbidden Planet." I gotta start reading these planet descriptions more often.

There is quite a few interesting ones, I believe that Bioware has confirmed that some of the descriptions are clues about where the ME sequel will go.

If you're interested, the most interesting planets are talked about here : http://masseffect.bioware.com/forums/viewtopic.html?topic=637596&forum=123

Thanks Staccat0 and kmfdmpig, those are some great tips, especially about weakening the enemy with the Mako and killing them on-foot for max xp.

I was playing the Liara planet last night and it started to click gameplay-wise. I was directing my troops to cover ahead, drawing fire to them as well as changing my shooting angles. I started picking enemies apart, it felt great. Some chemical rounds II helped as well, and after a few tries I even beat the huge geth thing towards the end. Overall I could have played for 2 more hours easily but had to quit for sleep. I can't wait to go back. My Shepard is now level 15 and my spectre training is complete. I think having that full unity should make the rest of the game easier, I'll probably buy some new armor tonight and I'll be in good shape.

I'm not used to giving out commands on where teammates should go, but once I started doing that it kept the enemies from just focusing on me (since we were all in the same space.) I feel like I have a better feel in combat now, also learning not to just hold the R Trigger, using it in short bursts instead.

In follow up to a few posts ago, I've managed to unlock both Eletronics and Decryption. So following the advice of kind generic poster I am deciding to use eletronics to maximise how awesome this guy will be.

Not only that, but I've found a guide that will allow me to make a character that will be able to take so much abuse I will be laughing. Hopefully ME2 allows us to continue our character stats, if not, well it'll be fun anyway!

LOL, no shit. I ordered the exact same things from amazon.

You both need to get the fuck outta my mind.............

Amazon completely and utterly my "Release Date" shipment of Soul Calibur IV LE. Yay for Prime *sigh*
at least I've got my books

finished my first play through today on normal settings. i just played it as a straight up shooter pretty much. barely touched the bionics and tech stuff.

fucking awesome game, the little twist at the end was interesting but i saw something like it coming.

i've got to play it again on hardcore. it got SUPER easy near the end on normal. i was taking down huge geth in pretty much 5 seconds with an assault rifle without being scratched. it was pretty much a power push near the end to see how the story finished.

i'm going to try to be more evil this go around but as usual it'll be really hard for me, morally. and i'm gonna go hard with the biotics. i figure it'll be a huge change for me tactically.

excellent game over all.

I also just finished the game today.

Despite some major flaws, it was a good playthrough, and possibly Bioware's strongest title. Great ending. Looking forward to the sequel.

I dont disagree really, I've just never heard anyone say it....

I've played all their RPGs, yes.

I'm not a huge fan of Bioware overall, but I've derived some enjoyment out of all their titles. While they're all solid, they usually lack that bang that would make them a bit more awesome.

ME does have some pretty serious/glaring flaws, and there are individual aspects that previous titles do a whole lot better, but the high points of the game have been higher than anything Bioware has done previously - for me, at least.

The ME universe is pretty cool.

Now I understand why some people would describe this as the best 'worst' game they've ever played.

I've haven't had any problem with them when I bought some games a few years ago. So I guess they are still fine now.

I just noticed they have a new theme up on live, could this be an indication of a new DLC pack coming soon?
I will need to check it out (maybe). Still, they've been really quiet on the DLC side of things. I just hope that the reason they're quiet is because they're busy making some epic shit.

I picked up a used copy last week and haven't progressed past the bomb disposal bit of the first mission... I really suck :lol

I like what I've played so far, and the presentation is incredible!

The bombs show up on your radar. Just in case you wanted to know that. A friend of mine did.

That much I figured out, but I thought there were three when there are in fact four. I was busy scooping up phat lewts when the fourth showed up on my screen and subsequently exploded.

God damn why is Saren at the end so ridiculously hard? The game is unbelievably easy for the 90% of the time but spikes insanely at random parts and this fighting is really reminding me of how much I hate the combat system in this game. Too many instant deaths in this "RPG" and the shittyness of healing plus the stupidity of your AIs makes this very difficult.

How do I beat this easily? I've already noticed that when he clings to the wall to do his waaay too powerful spread gun attack you can throw him down (but only one of my characters has throw powerful enough for this). I'm guessing to use synthetic bullets? The game never really tells you this sort of information and you always have to guess.

Saren's ability that overloads your weapon makes using the shotgun very difficult against him.

Use Lift and Singularity to beat him easily. Otherwise hold LB to freeze combat and find his location, then open up.

Having beaten the game 25+ times across all difficulties, there really isn't a tough fight in the game. This is coming from someone who gave up NGB when the tanks rolled in.

Maybe my Lift and Singularity weren't high enough because those two techniques had no effect on him at all. I basically play the game turn based (finger always on the right bumper) so I don't know.

I ended up beating him (just by a hair) after two more tries after I posted. I think my main problem was my ineffectual teammates getting killed constantly no matter how many times I revived them. I ran out of health items which irritated me because I have a billion space bucks and all sorts of useless items but only a mere handful of healing items? Silly. I read in the manual just now that you can buy the ability to hold more medigels at some stores. I guess I didn't find them because I don't remember doing that often...

My feelings about the combat are sort of unchanged from when I played through most of the game back in December. Some of the ideas are cool, but your AI teammates are much too useless and the battles seem very random, either being ridiculously easy or frustrating. For Mass Effect 2 I'd completely scrap what they have and start from scratch.

Still a really enjoyable game overall though.

In terms of the teammate AI and teammate control, I'd agree. BUT, I hear the PC version has at least improved the control part, but I can't speak to how effective it is.

No question, the AI needs major work...the combat system itself IMO is pretty good...almost there. Tweaking can easily solve some of the minor complaints I have outside of teammate AI.

This game makes you feel that you have a role in shaping the main character to quite a large extent...I like that.

Can't wait for the sequel...Im sure it will be dropping day and date on the pc this time

Luckily the game is built for more than one playthrough.

This is my Paragon playthrough and... it really broke my heart to see it happen. He was awesome to tow around making snides to NPC's during conversations.

Oh well, I'll console myself with blue alien vagina instead.

Let's go again!

I assume the statute of limitations hasnt expired on this thread yet, since it has only been a fortnight since the last post. Dooesnt qualify for a LTTP thread in my opinion anyway.

I picked this game up cheap last week ($35AUD at cdwow.com.au if anyone is interested) and I am someone who really hasnt given a shit about RPGs in ~10 years. Tried each of ff7,8,9,10, shin megami: nocturne, fable, oblivion, jade empire, kotor and a few others I forget. Only bothered spending any serious amount of time on ff7 and 9. Stopped playing kotor after an hour. Jade empire was not my idea of fun.

This afternoon I put in about 5 hours into this game, more than my total play time on oblivion, kotor, fable and smt: nocturne put together. I guess Mass Effect is the game to make me give a shit about RPGs again, and that comes as a nice surprise.

I love the music, it has some kind of Bladerunner vibe about it. I just finished reading the Old Man's War series, and I guess that's what made me hunt down a sci fi game that wasnt just shooting shit. The combat is as I expected, but it also works better than I was led to believe. The framerate and vsync is an issue, but since Im home with a headcold and managed to get through a few hours fine means its not that big a deal.

Im currently on the citadel complex hunting around for hidden packages .. sorry, keepers to scan, and a few other fetch quests. It gives me a good idea of the layout of the area. An rpg that is actually fun to explore is a big deal for me since so few have appealed to me.

Also is it just me or does this game have some grainy filter effect going on? Sometimes it looks a little funny, other times it works really damn well.

In any case, Im enjoying it so far, glad I picked it up.

Ahh, thought so. It looks good for the most part so Im happy to keep it. I havent had a look round much of the menus as they always seem to daunt me :lol

I like the dialogue in the game too, its not quite funny but not all that unnatural either. Sort of like a stargate episode in some ways.

You can turn that off in the display options. I prefer it on actually. Gives me this old-school sci-fi vibe.

I'm new to the 360 party, and this was the first game I picked up. Maybe 10 hours in and loving it. I think Bioware's RPG's have been going downhill for awhile (more casual, more linear) and while its more limited than I hoped (would have preferred to create custom classes and be able to swap in/out party members easier), I am finding this very enjoyable overall.

I can see why. Im only a casual rpg player but I am also a fairly big scifi story nut. So M-E hits a nice happy medium as far as Im concerned.

I heard this game was going to be a triology, is that true?

Yes, though I'd be amazed if the 3rd game made it out on the 360.

I re-bought a 360 last week and started playing Mass Effect yesterday.

Holy shit, I had no expectations after reading GAF, but I absolutely LOVE what I've seen so far. I'm about to leave the citadel complex, so I'm not far into the game, but the story is enthralling and the graphics combined with the great music give the game a nice atmosphere. Too bad it has some major screen taring and slowdowns.

As already mentioned a few posts above, the game is on the easy side, do you recommend starting over right now while I'm not far in and play it on hard?

What a coincidence. I just purchased the DLC and beat it. Got my Operator to level 60 on Hardcore, FUCK that last level took forever. Now just messing around with a shock trooper to unlock some stuff. Adept is last and maybe I'll do it on insanity.

This playthrough I am remembering to save Tungsten/Shredder VII -_-
I kept hearing carnage was neat, but I hadn't realized it was the rocket launcher power looking thing. Pretty easy to break people with that. I might get the Shock Trooper to level 60, I just plan on using the other classes to unlock the biotic achievements.

Need some ME 2 info damnit.

I'm actually planning on picking up the two books soon. I'm running out of lazy sci-fi to read :]

*edit Upon closer review. A larger coincidence that I also just finished reading Old Man's War :p I liked the premise, but I don't think it was a good idea to read it right after reading Altered Carbon. AC/BA would make a good ME universe type game.

If you're making your character specialization into being a Shock Trooper, then I'd suggest you put 12 points into assault training so that you can get the full benefits of the specialization.

I had to restart my gold class character/main character for ME2 because I had wasted points on paladin/renegade when I found out that you get points for those anyway at certain points in the game. Anyway, my newly restart Soldier Shock Trooper character is almost maxed out, with the warp out special skill bonus so not only is my character able to withstand the most damage/have the most health but he can really woop out some real damage on insain mode.

Yep. I'm not starting him on insanity, but I'll have the build straightened out when the time comes. If I'm going to use it on insanity I want to try lift at least. I need some ME 2 info before deciding. I have everything unlocked except shotgun (almost there) and the biotic powers.

On my first play though with a new character it seems like 1->30 has been MUCH easier than 59->60 was:lol It seems like I gain a level ever mission or so. Using whatever items I pick up too didn't buy the spectre stuff yet. Saving all my credit for use with Tungsten/Shredder VII

yeah seriously I know, the jump between lv 59 and lv 60 is basically doubling your entire exp. Basically takes half a game at least to get it, but perhaps putting the game onto hardcore/insainity will give you more exp cause enemies scale and have immunities.

i'm quite happy with my soldier shock trooper because hes pretty much a tank, and with immunity maxed out damaged protection is boosted to 80%, and cause I specialised in being a shock trooper and maxed out assault training I can pretty much keep immunity on constantly.

On this playthrough as well I'm getting the last ally achievements (asari and quarian) and then after i've maxed out the soldier dude I'll move onto being a engineer cause I've yet to play as one.

We got my shock trooper to level 36. Only 1 Tung VII so far. Any tricks to getting more Tung/Shredder VII? Can't level anymore because I believe it's the last level those mods are available for purchase.

On my earlier playthroughs I thought being a Soldier would be boring, but man was I wrong. There's something awesome about my Shock Trooper being able to stand right in the thick of things, shrugging off Armature blasts like they're bee stings.

Whats the fascination on mark VII weapon upgrades? I googled it to see some fixation on the ME boards, but like a few others I don't see what the fuss is?
