Mass Effect |OT| Alien love in an elevator

I just picked this game up last night for PC. After spending an hour finding a work-around for the General Protection Fault (I hate you Unreal Engine) I was finally playing. Rolled an infiltrator and having a great time with it. The game has a great balance of story/NPC interaction and gameplay/combat. I don't feel too gimped with my class choice either since there are plenty of opportunities to snipe and I have NPCs to tank for me.

What are your specs and how does it run?

1GB RAM DDR2 (only running 220MB overhead in app's though)
3200 Athalon @ 2.4 Ghz.
7800GT

I had to roll back to an older Nvidia driver to get it to work. The game is playable on medium settings @ 1050x1600. Still has its share of hiccups though, and probably isn't up to 30fps. Unforntunately Unreal tries to make my videocard do things it doesn't want to do.

Tonight I will try some coolbits action to see if I can get it to run better. I've heard that doesn't help the general protection fault problem though.

Whats the fascination on mark VII weapon upgrades? I googled it to see some fixation on the ME boards, but like a few others I don't see what the fuss is?

Tungsten and Shredder VII do the most direct damage and generate no additional heat. My last play through I mainly stuck to Incendiary X, but I'd like to take Tung/Shred into insanity with my soldier and since I'm low enough level I can stock up. I just can't find it anywhere and I am about to hit the next level.

Haven't read the entire thread but wanted to point out how awesome the OST is for this game.

Victory --> From the wreckage --> The end --> M4 Part 2.

I need moar ME nao bioware >.<

Oh yeah, Inferno rounds work great with the sinper rifle. Cryo is great with the assault and those crazy explosive rounds feel real good when fired from a pistol.

Don't sleep on the Sledgehammer X rounds. I give those to both Wrex's Spectre shotty and Garrus on the sniper rifle, and they'll just knock everything around while I pick my shots.

OK, I figured lots of killing from the Mako levels 36-40 leads to as little XP as possible and most farming opportunities. Ended up with 4 copies of Tung VII and Shredd VII. Good Enough.

Got an Adept to level 30 in ridiculously short amounts of time. Almost have all of those bonuses.

Next an Eng for the final tech bonuses.

Then I am using the soldier for one last play through on insanity. First 360 game I'll have all 10(50) points for. Hell I believe it's the only game I'll have over 700 points for.

*King of the Hill crab fighting is spectacular.

Any word on new DLC or ME2 release?

heard from someone in the know that ME2 is in production being developed first for 360...but there is no exclusivity, pc is a given....ps3 might even be possible. Know this is common knowledge, but recieved it from the horses mouth as it were....

Can't wait for it, I wonder if it will be revealed at e3 2009???

Go buy both of The Faunts albums. High Expectations/Low Results is longer and has the best track [Will You Tell Me Now], but M4 is consistently better.

So, I just arrived at Ilios. It's been a nice experience but Ive been playing slowly. Clocking in at near 10 hours now. Things seem to go into overdrive, am I right? How much more awesomeness can I expect? How much additional playtime?

Not much left.

Aaah crap. I thought it would be a tad bit longer :lol When you look at the overall package it kinda seems to pale content-wise, but in reality it's a very good experience and I really, REALLY am waiting for ME2.

You indeed probably have only another 1-2 hours, but they are EPIC, ACTION PACKED hours. My mind exploded during the end of my first playthrough.

So I just started playing the game and holy shit I love it. I just
Became a Spectre and traveled to Feros(whatever planet starts with F)
and am fighting the gef scum. I can't help but feel that I'm underpowered in some way though. My assault rifle and sniper rifle's still say "Untrained" on them and I don't really get why. What do I have to do?

What class did you choose?

You can use any weapon with any class. However, only certain classes can become proficiant with certain weapons.

It depends on your class. Check your stats, and see if there's a "Rifle" or "Sniper" space for you to put talents points in it.

If not, then you won't be able to use them.

You're probably a Vanguard, I guess.

And I need new DLC, fuck Bioware. I know the buyout and all that, but you PROMISED.

Yeah I finally got around to playing this recently and it's fucking awesome. Got to the second planet after
becoming a Spectre
.

It's just so slick and addictive. The menu interface is really bizarre and confusing, and some of the battles were kicking my ass until I stopped trying to play it like an action game, but so far I'm in love.

Sadly I've been working like a madman lately so I haven't had much time to dedicate to it.

Yeah I'm Vanguard. I hope I can get awesome pistols and shotguns later on? Or at least my squad mates will be able to snipe. Is there really even any sniping parts in the game? Also when do I get eye fuckingly awesome Bionics?

Ashley and Garrus can specialise with sniper rifles.

Lift and Throw are good Biotic skills to level up with the vanguard.

In time, my apprentice, in time. You took arguably the greatest (and easiest) class to do the game with.

Yes, you will get awesome pistols and Shotguns later on. And, well, for the sniping part, it depends. I'm more of a run and gun type of people, so I never did use snipers. But, most of the time, enemies encounter are close quarter.

I'm fond of the Soldier/Shock Trooper myself. I love the Assualt Rifles.

Thanks for the info :D . I'm really loving the game so far. I've completely quit playing the LBP beta because my ME obsession is getting bigger.

You can unlock different weapon/tech/biotic skills once you gain their linked achievements (For use by any class but you can only add one extra skill this way).

Vanguard is quite powerful though so I don't think you would face much trouble.

I saw a random topic on the gametrailers forums about "Mass Effect 2 first info". You wouldn't believe how furiously I clicked on my mouse to see what was up. Of course it was full of fake information that couldn't possibly be true :(.

Man I can't wait for ME2 information though.

Well, the author of the last book, Ascension I think, say that the book directly ties into the second game.

He is one of the author of Mass Effect, too.

I just beat this game like an hour ago.

The Faunts rock.

Awesome ending. I loved the game. After a year of playing the game off and on, I clocked in at 23 hours. Truly a complete gaming experience.

I guess I"m not the only one behind the ball here, finally finished it. I got really sick of the sidequests after a while, but the main story missions were fuck awesome. Hell, the DLC was pretty awesome too. I think i clocked in around 30 hours, but I left it sitting for 5 hours once accidentally.

After Oblivion it was weird to have have NPC's standing around waiting for you to jerk them off.

Can't wait for the next game, won't wait a year to play it this time though ;).

Just beat the game on 360 for the first time. Infiltrator / Commando. Used pistols 99% of the time. Clocked in around 40h for the game.

I was pissed to see that they dont show what happens to Shepard and his significant other... my toon fucked the blue asari.

What's the word on ME2?

I'm on Virmire and have clocked about 17 hours.

Wrex is dead.

I felt a little in the dark about that whole thing. I had talked to him once and he told me about the genophages, but his outburst seemed to come out of left field. Did I miss some important dialogue or plot beat here?

Completely fantastic game so far. I've only done a couple side missions on uncharted worlds. Done all the side stuff on the main planets though. Noveria has been my favorite planet so far.

I feel dumb for sleeping on this game for so long. Even the Mako bits have grown on me.

I can answer both of your questions with one answer.

blue balls

/low hanging fruit
/rimshot

I'm casually playing a new infiltrator myself. I think I'm going to use Commando with AI hacking. I know lift/cc is popular with inf, but realistically I can just use one of the other two people for that. Hacking helps all my tech and still benefits from my omni-tool :]

There is a lot of codex stuff and other conversations about the Korgan, Wrex, the universe and the genophage. The only time bad outcome happened on me was when i didn't complete his side quest. I somehow always completed it without thinking or my Charm/Int would be high enough.

Haha. I had no idea you could get another outcome. And his side quest?

I feel like I'm taking it all in but sometimes (like right now) I realize I'm completely oblivious.

Guess that's what a second playthrough is for.

Oh the fucker, i played through this game once already, was replaying my vanguard in a newgame+ and was up to feros, I do all the exogeni crap, about to come back to the colony when i descent the elevator, saved, games autosave IN the elevator, i exit, kill a few creepers but reload because i fucked up with the colonists, so after the loading screen, i find myself in a closed elevator, doors dont open, i click the elevator button and met a frozen loading screen, i load the autosave, but it autosaved IN the elevator and its the same bug.

Closest save outside those 2 corrupt saves? That goddamn planet where i find the asari scientist, the beginning of it >_<

FU Bioware, the game's been out for a long ass time and its not a fixed bug? screw that, game is going back in its case.

Yeah you just have to keep talking to him between missions and whatnot.

I stop at 1000. That's where a game ends, imo. Getting said 1000 was such a pain in the ass. Took forever.

Just finished it. Wow. What an incredible game. BioWare really does need to fix the texture popun though. Some of those last cutscenes were really affected by it. Now excuse me, I'm going to shake down the BioWare doctors for ME2 info.

I sold my Mass Effct. Reading through this thread Iwant to play it again, if only to get the last achievement - finding all the species/ship etc data. Never did find every one.
And I really liked the fact that achievements actually gave you something in the game, or conversely unlocking neat things in the game gave you achievements. It was actually fun earning them.
Such a good game.
