Mass Effect |OT| Alien love in an elevator

The most painful thing is that when I pick up my preorder on Nov.20, I'll still have to wait for my 360 refurb to return.

I cry at the fact that I won't be able to play this game till it either comes to Pc or I buy a 360 which will be a very long time from now very very long. It's a crying shame cause this is one of the few games that I want to play but financial reasons and the fact that I don't like most of the games in the 360 to warrant a purchase.

I won't lie, sometimes I wish I didn't buy the 360 and saved the money for a sweet PC instead. But then I remember Mass Effect is on 360, and I start to feel better.

Yeah Mass Effect and Bioshock are the games I want but thats only 2 games for me and I would rather spend my money elsewhere or on a latter date when some other game that I like come out.

I got Bioshock on 360, it's a pretty sweet game.

Some crappy pics from my crappy phone camera. Seriously does not do Mass Effect justice.

Here's the character I made. What's amazing is that the face/character you create really becomes THE experience you have throughout the game. It just blows me away to think that all of you will have totally different main characters, acting out different behaviors.

Here's a little note on the space exploration -- it ROCKS. I was jumping around different systems and orbiting their planets in search of minerals, or habitable landing areas and I came upon this distress signal. So I decided to check it out...

Here we are right after landing. The person in the forefront is one of my soldiers. She specializes in sniper rifles. Good for wide open combat obviously.

Whoever thought the Unreal engine couldn't handle huge outdoor areas deserves a :lol

The lighting and atmosphere in this game is off the fucking hook. Every planet has its own look, and from what I've seen so far, there are a ton of planets. Not all will allow you to land (for instance, planets which are gas giants or nothing but oceans of sulfuric acid), but I've poked around 1 system and have already found 2 really big random worlds.

Vehicle controls are sweet, and the moon patrol buggy is crazy fun to drive. You can literally climb any mountain, and you have little thruster jets. Also, vehicular combat is pretty cool -- a cross between the Scorpion tank and the Warthog. You can also exit your vehicle any time you are on a relatively flat surface. Yeehaw!

That's it for now. Time to play more.

Chehype delivers! Great post! The planet exploring is going to be off the hook, especially with such atmosphere.

Cool pix! Game looks very good, it looks very smooth. Does it make use of AA?

Wait wait wait. Can you actually travel anywhere in that pic? Its not background geometry?
I don't think planets are fully explorable (as in you can go anywhere on the the entire surface)

Yeah, I assume you can't travel to those mountains in the background. But if there are huge areas that you can still explore... wow.

You can go anywhere. Seriously. Those mountains in the background, you can climb them.

In other words, it's ALL GEOMETRY.

Obviously, there are some building structures and such that will block your path, and overall, planets have an ultimate boundary (so it's basically a very large square sandbox) although it'll take you a long time to get from one end to the other.

The feeling of "discovery" is definitely here.

You just made me the happiest girl in the world.

Seriously, what doesn't this game do? Real-time GRAW style combat, deep rpg stats and loot, and galactic exploration?

Whats not to fucking love?

Pretty damn ambitious on Bioware's part.

Man, this game is going to be the perfect end to the insane fall game asualt we all have endured. I'm definitely gonna play this the "pausing" way. I really loved doing that in KOTOR, and I think it makes you appreciate the game more.

Wow, and just to make sure I wasn't talking out my ass, I just drove to those mountains in the background and actually found some more minerals. Sweet. :D

This game is like a modern day Starflight. Except infinitely better.

What do you use minerals for? Workbench?

Damn.
The relative freedom in the exploration was one of the things I was worried about in this game; the demos I'd seen were all in pretty linear outdoors areas. A nice wide open place like that does a lot for me. :D

Awesome wowsome pics, Che. If you're taking requests, how about a few dungeon shots?

That sounds reasonable. I'm so glad they decided to hide minerals all over the galaxy and on explorable huge worlds instead of in just in crates :lol

Starflight is one of my favorite games, and to hear that Mass Effect really does have that kind of depth is just... wow. Can't. Wait.

This game does have AA, right? It being UE3 and stuff.

I almost don't care if it does, I'd rather have solid framerate and no vsync than AA. I find my HDTV smooths it all out anyways, especially when in motion, and especially if the game has motion blur (which I believe this one does).

Yeah, aliasing really isn't an issue in this game.

There are some indoor area backgrounds (like the occasional sign) that might catch your eye, but you will never see jaggies on stuff like character models/faces, vehicles, weapons, etc.

Again, UE3 is pretty much kicking my ass.

Great to hear! Yeah seems UE3 is pretty flexible after all.
UE3 now with large outdoor area's and AA!

Your impressions are getting me so excited, I can't wait to play this!

It's going to be so hard when I pick up my preorder and can't play it, I almost want to buy an Arcade 360 to play it while I wait for mine to get repaired :lol

Holy shit, great impressions/pics che. Now i feel jealous that it isn't me playing it right now :(. This really looks like it will be GOTY for me.

Yes! Although I don't think I could be any more hyped for this game than I already am. If the space exploration is as deep as I hope it is, this is seriously my dream game.

This screen alone would've sold me on Mass Effect if I already wasn't... (Not because of "the graphics", but the atmosphere (..Not the planet atmosphere, but the... Oh fuck it, YOU KNOW!))

Fucking DOT! I had no idea about all that planetary exploration/mineral stuff. To hear that, oh wow, I'm psyched! I always hoped I'd see a Starflight game in 3D...maybe this can live up to that!

Damn it where did I put that In Rainbows folder? Time to look at shots of Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed to All I Need.

WHAT?

your trying to tell me this game is even more awesome?

I'm starting to believe this game is fake, no game can be this good :p

Christ on a moon buggy! This game is immense.

Che: How are the physics on the buggy? Will we be seeing YouTube videos of crazy stunts or is it simply A-to-B transport (with boosters)?
