Shit SHIT SHIIT.
Okay the chemicals that detonated are NOT gonna make this easy on recovery for those that missed it.

CNN said:
According to the Tianjin Tanggu Environmental Monitoring Station, hazardous chemicals stored by the company concerned include sodium cyanide (NaCN), toluene diisocyanate (TDI) and calcium carbide (CaC2), all of which pose direct threats to human health on contact. NaCN in particular is highly toxic. Ca(C2) and TDI react violently with water and reactive chemicals, with risk of explosion. This will present a challenge for firefighting and, with rain forecast for tomorrow, is a major hazard," Greenpeace said.

Fucking morons laughing at other people getting hurt until it got "real" for them too. Then they started running.

i would. anyone with an ounce of empathy would not laugh. foh

being stupid would be the best case scenario

Those watching seem to be having a good sense of humor with it.

Clearly none of you have much experience around people in high stress, dangerous and/or scary situations. This is basic human psychology.

"With rain forcasted for tomorrow"...

Oh shit.

Exactly...cyanide and explosive chemicals are spread out pretty far due to this incident. I'm not even certain they have a clear estimate on how far and explosion of that much force could have blown the chemicals and Cyanide.

This is very bad. The cyanide alone being near the harbor is bad news, but the other two are going to make the whole cleanup an insanely rough business. The rain could lead to a LOT of dangerous situations just cropping up at random. Not good news at all for the already overtaxed fire departments.

Why is the government trying to hide this as best they can? Embarrassment or What? I don't understand. Can you imagine if the US tried to cover something like this. It was an accident man!!

Wow just watched some of the videos. This is seriously going to get me to review our emergency plan and revisit our go-bags.

where did you get the impression that they are hiding? not to say they are not but what gives away?
to answer your question, they have a habit of covering truth because officials has out dated concept of losing face...

From what I've heard it may have been the water they were using to try to put out the fire that caused the first explosion by reacting with certain chemicals.

There was a fire before the explosions, rescue teams already were on the scene for that. Further news was that it was a chemical fire, something that was not known til hours later, they did what firefighters and first responders are trained to. All they knew was it was flammable/explosive.

They sadly switched to flame retardant instead of water after the explosions. (Pink stuff you might see in some pictures)
Damn, that's messed up. Poor guys

If the firefighters really didn't know how dangerous those chemicals actually were the government could be blamed for that. I mean that's information all the fire departments should have.

Horrific explosion. Do we have an update on casualties?

This the fireman that sent those texts?

Exactly, but in all honesty they probably don't know what happened yet either. Unless it was some obvious sabotage, which it most likely wasn't. Gotta agree with you, there really is nothing to cover up yet this shortly after the accident. Don't want people to panic but also do not want the government to seem weak/not doing anything.

Man, I can't believe that the Hiroshima bomb was 1000x bigger than this (or something like that). I can't even imagine an explosion 1000x this. I mean, 1000x stronger doesn't mean 1000x larger, right?

The bomb dropped on Nagasaki was 1000x more powerful, the one dropped on Hiroshima was a little less than 1000x more powerful.

I can't image the blast being 1000x larger in volumeric size although I'm not a physicist but it was likely hundreds of times larger and the concussive force from it would've torn everything down, not to mention the radiation, heat, EMP etc. that nuclear ordinance causes

Also Nagasaki was roughly 1000x more powerful than this explosion but Tsar Bomba, the largest nuke ever detonated, was roughly 2300x more powerful than even Nagasaki. That's just plain crazy

Unfortunately it means pretty much exactly that.

Nah it doesn't, otherwise when the Tsar Bomba exploded, a huge part of Russia would have blown up.

If the equivalent of 21 tons of TNT exploded 250m2 (kinda)

58 000 000 tons...

~700,000,000m2 or 700,000km2.

(Super fast math with just basic calculus)

Which seems to be an asian trait I guess. I mean during the reactor explosion in Japan, they didnt let reporters near the place and still dont.
Which is a shame...

But right now we dont know anything, so I guess nothing to cover up (yet).

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Can anyone summarize or link to any articles explaining what the fuck exactly happened here and why?

Jesus christ that one video is INSANE.

That's like End Times level shit.

According to chinese social media websites (weibo, weixin etc.) it shows that actually over 1000 people died. Of course there are no real sources. Just rumors making the rounds.

The Tsar Bomba fireball was 8km in diameter.

Total destruction zone was 70km in diameter.

Uncomprehensible.

44 as in 4400? Or 44k?

The factory had a dorm there, a volkswagen factory next to it where the alloy rims melted (with a dorm too) and habitations next to it.

If a city has less than 100 or 50 (I forgot) casualties, there is no need for official report.

3 years ago around 10,000 people protested when they built that factory because of the nature of chemicals they planned to use, officials then claimed that they would just use it as a regular assembly factory to calm the population living there.

Anyway, China.

Some estimates are 1,000.

I guess this is how the story will unfold:

1) Central government will censor all media - official story only.
2) News will emphasize the bravery of the rescuer i.e. positive only
3) There will be no word on any potential pollution from those chemical. The air is safe to breath and water is safe to drink.
4) After a month a few people will be arrested and charged. They will be at most some middle management of some company overseeing the warehouse.
5) Families of victim seeking answer will be detained and beaten up.
6) Official responsible will be transferred to a different area for a different job. There will be no official demotion.
7) The party didn't do anything wrong, blame scapegoat identified in step 4 and hand them death sentence.
8) Some new regulation will pass, with questionable enforcement as usual.

China government will lie about it of course. No way that size explosion and only 44 dead... Hoping that is true however.

This is why mega cities will not work in china.

Has 4chan ever delivered? I think you're being a realist if anything. They're trolls, all of them.

I once read about a guy on 4Chan who said he'd kill Bin Laden with a sword. A couple of months later, a guy with a sword was arrested in Pakistan I think. There's also that one time to convince someone to detonate a hand grenade. They might be insane, but never underestimate 4Chan

I read on another board (which could be just somebody talking out of his ass so take it with a boatload of salt), that none of the chemicals listed as supposedly stored there could lead to supersonic explosions. So it's possible they were storing a lot of illegal shit and that means the government didn't know or didn't care (or got something something on the side). This is something you generally don't want to get out in the open, especially as an authoritarian state.

was this one posted? NSFW for language but maybe the most impressive/terrifying

cant stop watching it, the power... unreal

so sad...

Incredible. And very sad, of course, but yeah.

But also, why are all videos of this filmed in portrait?! I know, I know, not the thing to focus on here, but it really sucks. You miss so much in that tiny vertical window. Stop doing this, people.
