The thing going around the alt-right now is that Hillary faked her performance at the Commander In Chief forum.

They claim the video feeds show her wearing an ear piece that was feeding her answers to the questions.
Bush was accused of this in 2004.

I was reading a report from a guy who was there on Twitter and he was saying the vets in the crowd were not happy with the email focus. He said they felt cheated that this was their chance to ask, you know, questions about things that were important to them. He said a lot of them felt taken advantage of. Also, Trump brought tons of people to put in the crowd. Hillary had one aide who didn't even sit in the crowd. lol

Like, I don't mind challenging questions. The question about classified data? Cool. I'll even accept the question about Iraq. Seven follow ups to the email was ridiculous, and him telling her to answer the question about how to defeat ISIS "as brief as you can" was just ridiculous.

That 22 fact check he dropped seemed like a plant to me.

The dumbest candidate the history of presidential candidates, suddenly knows something about veteran suicides? Someone needs to ask him a follow up.

I might be biased but it seemed like a clear attempt to gain sympathy and a plant.

'Hey hey, ask me about that thing we talked about.'

Well he was wrong. It was 20.

Pretty much expected. Lauer has never been great with heavy interviews, so this is no different.

But this headline:

Matt Lauer’s Pathetic Interview of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump Is the Scariest Thing I’ve Seen in This Campaign

is some straight up hyperbolic nonsense. No way this is the scariest thing from this campaign.

Hyperbolic nonsense is the theme of the 2016 election cycle. And you're right, it's total fucking clickbait garbage.

If all sides are saying you did a bad job you probably did a good job
How do you figure? And how does that square with the specifics of his performance? Like, say: "Mr. Lauer found himself besieged on Wednesday evening by critics of all political stripes, who accused the anchor of unfairness, sloppiness and even sexism in his handling of the event."

Your statement only works in the abstract, when you overlook the substance of the critiques.

If its a debate, you should be pressing pressing issues they are avoiding for them to have to reply. Its not a TV interview designed by PR staff

You also shouldn't be talking over someone unless they're going over their time limit.

You also shouldn't give one candidate easy questions and the other complex ones.

Yet here we are.

Glad he's getting eviscerated. Totally out of his depth. NBC has plenty of more suitable candidates and they fucked up going with Lauer.

Going after Hillary is fine, that's what journalists should do. But his treatment of Trump in comparison was a failure of basic journalism. At the very least this will hopefully put journalists on notice that they can't let Trump skate through unscathed in the future.

Lauer is a simpleton. That said, Clinton has courageously and graciously faced all manner of sexist behavior and comments from the press over the decades that no person should have to put up with. I'm glad this is getting called out these days.

"I didn't do it! You did it!" Is the modern republican strategy. I've heard they're looking into the more advanced "I'm rubber and you're glue" technique for the debates.

It should be glorious. One of the few CNN anchors with actual integrity. Love me some Cooper. Wish he wasn't tied to CNN.
I swear he's done some segments on 60 minutes before. I'd like him there, but he wouldn't get as much time to talk like on his own program.

"Journalism" isn't beholden to "truth" and "equality" only to ratings. Sorry facts, profit is king and your days are numbered.

I agree that Matt Lauer deserved to be criticized. The lack of fact checking was unacceptable to me. He also shouldn't have spent so much time on the damn e-mail stuff given the topic of discussion. Laurer didn't bother challenging Trump on his inadequate responses and dodging his major questions about his military strategy for ISIS, whether he believed he knew more about ISIS than military generals, and not calling him out on Trump's initial stance on the war in Iraq. Both candidates also didn't really provide any solutions to address the problems veterans continue to face. That must have been frustrating and disappointing for the veterans in the audience to hear.

I only caught the Trump interview before the replay and I thought it was kind of shameful but still pretty par for the course with Trump interviews but then after seeing the Clinton interview, jeezus. The E-mail focus really was some bullshit.

It's great that Lauer is getting blasted for this. Now, the debate moderators should be on guard.

Yes, as big of a shit show as last night was it will likely have a good end result. The moderators are going to be very careful about how they approach the debates. NBC has the first debate so you know they're going to have a talk with Lester Holt since this is pretty awful press for them.

Also it helps that Trump had some weird ass responses.

i've been begging for over 5 years.
We need to realize and understand that the news media has vested interest in seeing Trump win the presidency. They (all of them) gave him unprecedented coverage in the primary season because it drove ratings. They are responsible for his rise to become the GOP nominee.

The news media is frothing at the chance to cover a Trump presidency because day after day everyone will need to tune into the news to make sure that Trump didn't do or say something stupid or start a war. A Trump presidency will be a gigantic ratings boon to 24 hour news channels.

A Clinton presidency will be by media standards 'boring'.. They want Trump the clown to become president to drive their revenue. Les Moonves comments on Trump was the warning shot we all should have paid more attention to. I don't expect any of these moderators to fact check Trump or hold him to any sort of scrutiny.

Did you stay to the end? Hillary spun her head all the way around and Trump spit up pea soup. It was terrifying.

glad he's getting crushed, well-deserved. at least trump can't hide during the debates...or will he....

Chris Wallace is moderating the last debate and has already said he doesn't think it's a journalist's job to fact check.

“That’s not my job,” Wallace concluded. “I do not believe it is my job to be a truth squad"

Lauer isnt the only morning news 'personality' to go super easy on Trump. I have seen hours and hours of George Stephanopoulous interviews where he just lets Trump spout whatever nonsense he wants.

They are a fucking disgrace and should resign.

It's Matt Lauer. It'd be more newsworthy if he wasn't a total pushover.

It'd be like expecting NeoGAF to not collectively shit themselves when Apple unsurprisingly dropped the headphone jack from the iPhone 7.

Matt Lauer hosts a morning show that is spoon fed news and feel good stories with pop acts here and there.

He is in no way, shape, or form capable of handling something like this forum. And that's the problem. The journalists that are capable aren't being included on these.

Considering how this will have little to no effect to the key minority groups Trump has totally alienated that he needs to win, doesn't directly make him look better or worse, or Hillary better or worse, and th discussion is almost entirely focused on how much Lauer fucked up and is a piece of shit, I'm going to go with no.

Trump still looked terrible, and that's what most of the discussion directly afterwards was about. He had one former general on CNN ready to dropkick him.

I'm pretty sure these debates they'll focus mostly on a comprehensive "You're a doo-doo head" / "You're ugly" strategy.
