I was annoyed that UKIP got around my "no junk mail or UKIP fliers" door sticker by sending two leaflets to me and my wife in the post.

The party itself is trying the angle that the current system of being part of the EU isn't "fair" to those outside it. I actually have some sympathy with that opinion, having had to recently deal with the various paperwork for my wife who is a non-EU national. However, I doubt that UKIP would make it easier for her, or anyone else, to get in. As you say, the party membership just wants fewer immigrants full stop.

That is actually very reasonable and I would also sympathise with that. Like you said though, I'm fairly certain their main motto is "keep our Britains British" etc. and they're hardly known for being reasonable. Saw a lovely UKIP post being circulated before on FB, mentioning that one of the poll station workers was, "a fucking muzzrat.. we want our country back!" and I'm fairly certain that that is also the view of many UKIP candidates, even if they don't say it. I mean, one blamed flooding on gay people.

On a side note I'm really going to miss this topic when it's gone. It's provided a great and generally very insightful read every day, as well as a good measure of unbiased reporting as far as I can see.....and I haven't seen proper "WELL YOU'RE A BELL-END!!!!" type blowup either.

Good job, UKPoliGAF!

I'm really hoping for a couple of meltdowns.

Unfortunately we are all british so nobody is invested enough.

Hear hear! I've very much enjoyed this thread and I'd like to think it'll always remain civil. I mean, some of my best friends are Tories.

Where's Zomg?
I expected him to be one of the main contributers.

Yeah shame. Although he did talk a load of shit in the last year or so. About UKIP 'parking their tanks on Labour's lawn'. etc. He's not as ITK as he sometimes is treated. Good poster though.

What time is it gonna start kicking off?

Early hours? May get up a bit earlier in the morning, no work till 11.30 am.

First constituencies should be done by 11, but 4am and later is when we'll start getting a half decent picture. If it's anything like the last one some places won't report until Near the end of tomorrow/the weekend

Lots of people talking about voting both local/general - do I need to vote in both? I've put some effort into learning the broader nationwide politics (and still can't actually decide) but I'm utterly clueless on anything local. :/

So is everyone tbh. Vote with your heart there.

Interesting obs, but l'm.wondering if that's because most posts seem to be left-leaning, which may reflect the demographic of GAF more generally.

However, this is where l have got the majority of my political info from and people such as Kmag have posted some sublime stuff.

Well done everyone.

I almost never agree with him, but he can be entertaining when he gets going.

They're separate papers so you can always spoil your local ballot if you feel that strongly. I normally just vote on party lines/whether I think the current council is crap more than anything else.

Hopefully Ed wins. His face is very interesting to watch and many excellent photos will be taken through the years.

I think there'll be a lot of salt if he wins as well, which my time at Neogaf.com has taught me to relish. =)

Unfortunately we are all british so nobody is invested enough.

My response to the SNP having a large degree of influence over the next Government will be to mumble 'bloody hell' to myself then make a nice cup of Earl Grey tea.

That's my meltdown right there.

Speaking of which, is the correct spelling for calling someone a nobber or nobhead with or without a k at the start? Always wondered this.

Without a k. Knob is like doorknob, not penis.

That's very british of you.

What's wrong with the SNP having influence over the UK government when they are (potentially) legitimately elected members of parliament via an electoral system supported by the current establishment?

I don't understand why people are scared of the SNP. Surely working with them is the only way to save the Union...

Echoing the sentiment that this thread has been great. :D Just voted. I hope that whatever happens this election it leads to voting reform.

While I'm not scared, it's a proportionality issue. They will get maybe 2% of the overall vote, but have 50 seats. Compare that to say UKIP who will have about 12% of the vote but 2 seats.

Blame those who didn't vote for AV/didn't support a move for PR. Even the SNP support PR!

The Tories (and some Labour) and apathetic voters are to blame for that.

The SNP are just being a damn competent party.

voted labour. i basically had to decide between lib dems and labour as the two parties i actually like and my seat being a labour/tory marginal solved that.

still, i'm fairly happy to vote labour at this election, i think they've got quite a compact, well organized manifesto about increasing fairness and helping re-balance the economy which i hope to see implemented. i'm impressed by how calmly miliband carries himself, his clarity in this election campaign has been very welcome and i think he genuinely cares about a lot of left wing social injustice issues and isn't just playing lip service. my reservations is that he basically has no vision, everything is very reactionary and limited in scope, but i'm not sure any party does have much vision except greens and ukips and they are both shit. i'm also concerned that he basically has a total disinterest in buisness, i don't think he's hostile like people cry about, i just don't think it's an important thing to him, and he doesn't sound at all convincing when talking about small business. i'm quite new labour, create prosperity through free market capitalism then use the state to distribute it positively, so this is a bit disappointing but in the context of this election i do think he's lucked into a more buisness friendly stance with his eu referendum position, so it's less of an issue. overall i'm excited to see what a miliband led government does.

i feel bad for the lib dems, hope they can keep many of their seats. they seem to genuinely care about education, which people don't want to talk about this election for baffling reasons. i'm sort of ambivalent about clegg atm, i do think he is really decent and the reactions to him are absurd and people don't understand coalition politics at all or appreciate any details in policy like the uni fees one, but i'm fucking miffed about his obsession with another deal with the tories instead of working with labour to improve them. total sour grapes for all the votes taken, which is weird from a party that tanked their vote to try and improve the tory cuts and is less interested in pandering than others which i respect.
