Fucking casuals man.

He's just still salty after losing.

Problem with boxing is that it is full of vanilla midgets. If I want to see that, I can just watch some armatures box at the local gym.

We need heavyweights and hard hitting brawls.

"It's not boring, you're all casuals!" - said as their sport is shadow of it's former glory.

Two different points here:

Floyd won and won because he was the better boxer, had the better results. Saying he ran or was pressured or whatever and that means he shouldn't have won is ignorant and a hard thing to take seriously.

Saying it's boring? Fair game. I mean you got a lot of the major figures in boxing history shitting on this fight. I like boxing, but I still don't think this was a good or entertaining fight.

I was rooting for Manny, but it was obvious how the fight was gonna play out after the first round. He basically couldn't get to him at all, and the only hiccups Floyd had was in the 3rd against the ropes and against the ropes in a middle round, and he didn't even get hurt in these instances.

I'd equate it more to true baseball fans being able to appreciate watching a no hitter thrown or even a pitching duel that ends in a 1-0 game while a casual fan that only watches the world series wants to see 10-15+ runs each game.

If those fans were really that hardcore they'd be watching test cricket instead of baseball like all the casuals.

I'm telling you guys, people in today's world are used to buying a netflix membership and getting thousand of hours of entertainment for it. There will be A LOT of people who paid 100 dollars for these 3 hours and it will piss the hell out of them into further pushing boxing out of their mind.

Seriously. I get calling people who go "LOL CLINCH JAB RUN" or "PAC SHOULD WIN BECAUSE PRESSURE" casual. A one-sided defensive fight ending in UD is basically as boring as it gets when you have two world-class fighters.
Not Floyds fault those two overated fucks roach and Manny had nothing for him

Everybody knows real fans of baseball appreciate the majesty of bunting and who could avoid getting aroused at the amazing tactics of walking a hitter. Only the puritans can appreciate it, not filthy casuals looking for home runs.

That's what you guys sound like right now.

its more like the old Spurs issue. Boring and fundemental but it wins so why the fuck wouldn't you play that way?

If someone can't hit you, why the fuck give him a better shot via being reckless and shit? It is quite boring I understand that but it is smart to do if it has won you countless fights.

Mike Tyson @MikeTyson

We waited 5 years for that... #underwhelmed #MayPac

Pftt... Casual boxing fans

I don't know why boxing fans can't admit that was a letdown of a fight. Even for a Mayweather fight.. that was a snoozer.

Hate to break it to you bruh, but....

Yeah that is what I'm talking about, it doesn't seem correct from watching the fight. It seemed that Pacman was throwing lots more than Floyd and most people commenting during the fight we're backing that up.

God that is a terrible analogy.

One of the worst boxing matches in terms of hype I've seen. I think Boxing is getting deader than Baseball. Floyd is a great defensive boxer, but a showman or gracious champion, he is not. He can never compare to Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard and even Roberto Duran when fighting. They all tried to fight rather than hug and defend the whole match. For casuals, they though it was boring, and I'm sure Dana White and MMA have a great promotional tool on why the sport of boxing is boring when MMA offers more excitement and bang for the buck.

Edit:

Some people here are like soccer fans trying to convince Americans that a 0-0 tie was an exciting game.

Soccer is different as its more of a chess match and you have a TEAM playing rather than one guy. A 0-0 can be exciting if both teams attack like crazy, but have good defending, rather than pass the ball lazily around like Floyd was doing killing the momentum.

I think people need to be mad at the right people, the marketing and advertising that swayed them in. It's kinda scary really. I watched The Great White Hype with Samuel L Jackson and have realized how real that movie is. These people catered to paying to seeing Floyd get knocked out, defeated and silent. And this dude just pimped these people out of $100 bucks to see him lose. That's amazing to me. That he's made a 1/4 billion dollars from people who hate him and want to see him lose.

May weather was the more technical fighter, and he definitely dominated, but it was boring boxing. At least UFC, technical fights, tend to be about trying to get out of a BJJ guard. A little more technique involved then test range jab, test range jab, test range jab, test range jab, wait, counter or hug. I barely even saw that many combinations by May weather. He didn't need them, I get that, but it was boxing.

May weather was the smarter boxer. Pacquio was the more entertaining boxer. Boxing needs more entertaining than technical right now for us casuals.

Leave the technical to olympic wrestling and UFC.

Change up the point system. Include criteria for aggressiveness to dissuade this style of boxing.

Yes, when you can't actually beat the man, simply just change the rules.

Is there a rule against excessive clinching/headlocks?

I don't really recall any matches were points were taken away.

ESPN ripping this fight apart. I imagine that in the end they soured a lot of people by charging $100 for PPV.
Espn has been building this fight up like they were in on the money with showtime and hbo. They have no room to talk about how disappointing the fight was. They helped build it up.

When as people did we get to the point where we no longer consider talent and hard work important in a sport. I'm not defending Floyd as I don't know the man but is he villified to the point where we want any attempts at success b him to end in failure with no there reason other than "we" don't like him? Sounds like HATE to me. I've actually noticed that a lot lately Tom Brady = HATE Steph Curry =hate, James Harden = Hate, and Lebron = HATE HATE Jameis Winston = HATE HATE. Say what you want about these people but again like a broken record I ask the haters, "What are you doing?"

Well, isn't that the character/persona he's built for himself intentionally? The guy you love to hate! It seems to be working well for him.

It's funny because I've been watching boxing than some of those posters have been alive.

They jumped on the Floyd bandwagon after he became famous, but probably couldn't tell who he fought before Corrales.

Every community has fans like these.

Yup. This is why in a racially charged match with a very clear winner, this is where you can seriously clean up when it comes to betting, because people will bet with their hearts.

Part of the problem is that the rules allow it to be boring to spectate. There was some excessive clinching I felt (and some headlocks wtf), but it was all in the rules.

Reminds me of the hack a shaq strategy in basketball: foul repeatedly and make a crappy free throw shooter shoot free throws. Valid, but stupid and boring to watch. Rules were changed to prevent it

Need some rules that prevent excessive clinching I think to make sure people can swing some punches. It'd be a lot more fun to watch and more action oriented if through scoring, boxers just tried to avoid clinching as much as possible

A filthy Broncos fan would say something like this :P So basically you want Goodell to roll through and fellate one style of boxing, while disproportionately punishing the other?

Yes, when you can't actually beat the man, simply just change the rules.

Well, boxing is dying. It is a shell of its former glory. They're going to have to do something to make it more appealing. Having the fighters be more aggressive and taking chances through rule changes is probably the best way. Having ways for people to play "technical" isn't entertaining anymore. People want to see strong and skilled people slug it out, not hug each other even if hugging is the correct way to fight.
