This thread is so big because Xbox fans suddenly discovered that Japan may actually matter.

Well, we're not quite sure if it matters yet. We have to see a few more weeks of good 360 sales to be sure that it matters.

And we can't discount the possibility of Europe or the US suddenly not mattering. Right now, obviously, they matter, but if things change in the next year and the Wii takes off obviously they won't matter.

Thank you for correctly using the term, "light years."
Just to clarify, "light years" are a unit describing distance, not time. They have a time component in that they are defined in how far light travels (at c, i.e. in a vacuum) in a Julian year. So, effectively, you're just saying that they were were some factor of 9x10^15 metres ahead of the N64 and GameCube launches.

So uh ... where are those HW numbers? Did Sony knock off some people?

The Wii software launch being 9x10^15 better than N64 and Gamecube? Sounds about accurate. :D

Of course, if the Wii tanks, NPD won't matter, only shadowy and mysterious Walmart sales, whatever they may be.

a shitload of JRPGs that wont sell very well in Japan due to the lack of 360 userbase. Hey the Dreamcast had literally hundreds of RPGs, SRPGs, and dating sims, and look where that got it.
What RPGs, besides Skies, would you say? Grandia? Compared to the PS2, the DC was pitifully lacking. As for the dating sims, please. PC ports don't sell consoles, be it in the Dreamcast or the PS2.

Look at the 360 JRPG pipeline, it's currently filled with names that actually have credit. Tri-Ace, Tri-Crescendo, Mistwalker... to compare those to something like Izumo DC is a bit silly, don't you agree?

Fixed to change the meaning of the sentence. There are plenty of xbox fans that understand the significance of Japan in the gaming industry. "Fanboys" is a bit more realistic, but I'll leave it up to someone to come up with a more agreeable statement than what I have changed.

Now see, if they were smart, like say Square-Enix they would have realised they should have made it for the DS.

And notice that I used the word "relatively"?

well almost everything is "relatively" meh compared to one of the best games ever made...that doesn't mean Japan has poor taste in games.

the fact is that the vast majority of games above Zelda in this week's sales chart are good games.
