Captain Rainbow sales # does not surprise me. As a gamer who enjoyed (and were excited with) Chibi Robo, I am not planning to buy this game. I am more excited toward Giftpia than Captain Rainbow.

Why? I'm from the UK and very rarely see this. I think the confusion over this chart shows why it shouldn't be done. 3.152k is 3,152. I don't think there is any logic in using '.' for both a decimal point and a divider between 1000s.

Actually, except UK and US, most people use .'s and ,'s switched.
3k --> 3.152
32/10 ---> 3,2

Xbox 360 ain't doing bad, considering the drought.

Shame about Sigma Harmonics, though. Square Enix deserves a new IP doing well. Here's hoping Last Remnant is that IP...

Sigma Harmonics: why is it a shame? is it a great game?
I think people in general want any new SE IP to succeed, you know to motivate them in creating more new IP's instead of their usual FFs and DQs.

It's certainly not a bad one. From the short time I've spent with it it's got impressive graphics, a really decent soundtrack and lots of speech. The early card battling could get repetitive, but I've only just started so presume it picks up further in.

Oh, no doubt. I'm just wondering if its a shame because its such a great game or because we believe that SE will create no new games unless these meager new IPs are taken up on the first go round.

Speaking of SE RPG's, The Last Remnant is now available for preorder on Amazon.jp Top 100. I think it went up yesterday and it's holding the #1 spot. I can't remember the last time that was the case for a 360 game.

Unfotunatelly the same can't be said about IU, which is not even in the top 10 with less than 2 weeks from release. Amazon isn't exactly the best indicator of sales, but I believe ToV was hovering higher prior to its release.

Could TLR be the biggest of the 3?

Edit: Nevermind about IU. It seems there are 2 sku's for it, one at #11 and one at #33. I don't understand what that's all about because they both look the same to me. Maybe that's what's throwing off its ranking.

It's not an indicator..... AT ALL. Seriously, I don't know why people even bring up Amazon rankings anymore, they're meaningless. Amazon isn't even tracked by Media Create or Enterbrain. :p

Uhhh. The week DQV sold nearly 700,000, DS didn't outsell PSP. Nor the next week. Nor the one after that.

Reason they are an estimate is because I had to average out the first 3 days of August. from the week of 7/28-8/03.

For Famitsu's month, August is 5 weeks.

July 28-Aug 3
Aug 4-10
Aug 11-17
Aug 18-24
Aug 25-31

I usually try to pick the closest days to match NPD's months, though, so that'll just be the last four of those weeks.

Somehow I doubt that...then the Pokemon number would be way too low. R/B/G sold like 30 million WW

Makes no since not to, they should. And I wouldn't say it's not an indicator at all. Typically games on preorder that consistently hold a top spot months in advance and stay there until release have pretty big first day in sales. AC6 was one I remember tracking.

Anyway, it's still interesting top 20 to look at right now. Looks like the price drop is having an effect on their site.

Hey everybody. I'll be out of town this week visiting family, and I won't be able to post charts or the next MC thread until I get back on Sunday. I would expect donny or jjs or cvx to take over for the week if they're willing.

I will update w/e thread is available with appropriate charts when I get back.

At TGS 2006 two games were featured in Ken Kutaragi's keynote (well others were featured in short clips in a montage video). The games were FFXIII and Africa. The big titles coming to the PS3. I remember sitting there and being very impressed with the title. There was obviously a LOT of money put into it early on and it was indeed a flagship title. Sony was billing it as such. But when Kutaragi left the hype for this game seemed to go with him. It pretty much fell off the map until about 2 months ago. I wonder what happened.

Yeah it outsold Endless Ocean but that game looks to have been made with a tiny fraction of the budget and has never touted as "the next big thing". I'm guessing Akira was very please with FBs sales but I can't imagine this is how Sony thought Afrika would go down when they originally announced it.

I still want to get it though.

Famitsu really made a confusion about Pokemon Yellow sales, at first they started to track it independently from Red/Blue, but the latest numers we have, around 2001 or 2000 top500 chart (now i don't remember correctly), they included Yellow in R/B/G with 10mln units sold.
It's very strange, cause usually Famitsu includes sales only for same games released on same day (Pokemon, Megaman EXE), meanwhile R/G/B/Y had 3 different release dates...

it's like they should start to track Emerald with Ruby and Zapphire sales or Diamond and Pearl with the upcoming Platinum...

I just realized I have become a sales-ager again. I am currently more excited about the release of Media Create(multiplatform) for the week of 9/8, than anything else really, IU included.

We should keep track of the views, and posts for MC weeks, kind of like the sales for games. Maybe we could even do predictions on them, like the NPD threads. I predict 20 pages for that week. Then the charts could come. And instead of sales spikes, we have meltdown spikes.

[MC 9/8-9/14] 20 :D

Well last time I remember seeing something on it, it was more than half of all retailers and estimating for Wal-Mart and the mom and pop shops.

I thought that the game was pretty anticipated. In addition, considering the hardcore fanbase of PS3, I expected better sales. But this is only the first day, so we'll see.

Media Create tracks around 57% of retailers from point of sales, and they also track and monitor pre-orders, shipment figures, as well as used game sales trends and feedback from stores regarding sales trends, etc. It's pretty much the same kind of tracking NPD does. Both Media Create and Enterbrain actually sell this information, just like NPD does. They're also compiled in books that are sold for quite a high price annually.

It's worth noting that when ducky says "quite a high price", he doesn't mean tens of thousands of dollars "quite a high price", he means 30000円.

Enterbrain tracks less than Media Create, since they're a large publisher as opposed to a specialized tracking agency. I can't remember the exact % they track, but it's still a good amount. They're not pulling stuff out of their ass.

And yes, when I say a high price I mean a few hundred bucks, not 49535643986594363 dollars. :)

Well since we normally respect MC, I think your are right. As a matter of fact, I think whoever does the OP, should start adding up the months,(matched up to NPD) on top of the LTD. It actually matches up quite nicely since MC week hardware numbers and NPD typically come out on the same day. Which means we can have a thread of NPD monthly and MC monthly sales. And we'll have a super sales day.

Then, in the NPD thread have a NPD + Japan sales, or make a super sales thread and call it the official NAJA Sales-Age thread and sticky the SOB. Maybe that will inspire someone to get us some official European hardware numbers too.

For example. For July 08:

NPD

DS 608k
Wii 555k
PS3 225k
PSP 222k
X360 205k
PS2 155k

MC

PSP 266k
DS 217.5k
Wii 165k
PS3 44k
PS2 38.5k
X360 18.5k

NPDMC

DS 825.5k
Wii 720k
PSP 488k
PS3 269k
X360 223.5k
PS2 193.5k

I think super sales just sounds cheap? Like it's the thread to come to if you wanna find a bargain. We don't want sales-age to have that impression do we?
