That breakdown will be really interesting at this time next year. Nintendo is planning on shipping over 25 mil DSL and who knows how that is going to be divided among the territories.

I don't think it's impossible for Europe to double their userbase if Nintendo ships them enough. The DS seems to be gaining a lot of momentum over there, especially in France, Germany, and the UK.
I'd imagine Japan's likely to start reaching saturation after the next 5m or so... at which point, we'll likely see America and Europe take the leads for growth. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the next fiscal cycle sees something like 10m NA, 10m EU and 5m JP.

The catch 22 with that scenario is that if Zelda sold the same as Wii sports, everyone would be spitting out the old "The Wii is only selling to hardcore Nintendo fans" bit, which we've seen run into the ground with the 3 months of NPD threads.

If anything, it's promising for the Wii's future in Japan if older established series are fading in popularity.

How so? Nintendo's making a killing on their new IPs, but Mario, Pokemon, and Animal Crossing (All Old series) are very important to them as well.

Besides, isn't the virtual console predominately older, established games? ;)

Jarrod, I asked you this before, but you never answered. :( Do you have Japan Yoshi's Island (and possibly WW) sales?

Well, for those who've been following the "Will Atlus ever ship/sell a decent amount of Sekaiju" Saga (IE, me, ducky, and Magicpaint), Famitsu puts the game at 61k now through 02/11.

Progress, people!

Interesting, it's charting much higher on Enterbrain than Media Create.

I still don't get why Atlus didn't ship more, still burned from Trauma Center's performance in Japan?

I was expecting more for Zelda. Not really expecting, but hoping for Wii Sports/Play success, it really deserves it. That 300k is DS and handhelds.

Supposedly the shortage for SnMQ has ended though.

I remember something about the shortage keeping DQ:MJ of the charts for a week or so... Who exactly distributes the carts?

Well people don't know that it's only selling 90% of its shipment.

I don't know but I'm guessing it's one company that makes them all for everyone including Nintendo if Nintendo doesn't make them them-selves.

No, it's Nintendo. They still control every part of hardware and software with an iron fist. Doesn't matter if it's first party or third. Their licensing rates are more competitive now.

Intelligent Systems has finished with WarioWare: Smooth Moves, completed Fire Emblem: Goddess of Dawn and since Super Paper Mario is out in April I presume development is fast wrapping up on that as well. So what next? Probably not a Paper Mario for DS just yet, Panel de Pon DS is likely by them...but it IS an old puzzle game just spruced up slightly. Hardly enough to prevent work starting on FE DS. Anything else they're doing that I'm obviously missing?
Well, in fairness, there have been two Fire Emblem games since AWDS, which puts the two series at a 5:3 ratio, favoring FE, when considering only Intelligent Systems' GBA, GC, and Wii output. Not sure how high an AWDS2 is on the priority list since the series seems to do much better in the US than Japan, and even then not as well as Fire Emblem (much less Paper Mario), but just saying.

The third Fire Emblem for GBA and the one for GC were released in Japan before AWDS, though.

Does anyone know what #67 is?

I'd like to make a request - can any GAFfers with photoshop skills create a medal that reads 'Official Non-Game'?

We can hand those medals out when stuff like FF3 or Wii Play breaks a million units sold.

Oooh, we lost track of it before reaching 200k, now its the best selling Tales on PSP!

Maybe Namco notices that a new spinoff is doing better than main entries ports....they should try with a new main entry.

Wow @ Sim City. I'd say "Good job EA!", but
they already fired the team that made the game.

Surprising to see Nintendo ship 150k Fire Emblem to retail, pretty high for a niche game on a new platform.

Naruto Wii is, but apparently you don't know the standard for Fire Emblem sales.
I'm just going by how much of their shipment they managed to sell. Both are doing under 40%.
I realize that Fire Emblem isn't the biggest franchise, and the GCN version only sold like 170k (or something?), but yeah, I'm not really basing it off of that.

They decided fighting their way through the rabid crowd wasn't worth it.

"Excuse me, if you could move a couple inches to the left, I could reach over and maybe brush that copy of Fire Emblem with my fingers..."

"..."

"Uh, hello? Do you speak Japanese? Hello? Hello?"

"..."

"Um, excuse me, sir? There's something wrong here."

"Aw, crud. Yo, Kensuke! We've got another dead one here!"

"Drag him out and dump him in the back with the rest!"

"... (Maybe I can come back next week.)"

it seems like the only thing the japanese want to play is wii sports. every other game is 4tl at the moment. and it seems like fire emblem is nintendo's "virtua fighter" compared to the sales.
