It's not like RPGs are going to wither away if a Sony console isn't on the top of the sales charts, you know.

I'm personally more worried about the Wii's very nature encouraging more dexterity based RPGs...

I would, can just spend around $100 USD for a 300 gig drive anyways. But can the psp communicate with the PS3 if there's no WIFI (core has no WIFI am I right?)

Only through USB.

The vast majority seem to think that the 60GB is a better value than the 20GB. Whether that is or not relative to manufacturing cost is moot.

Maybe I'm delusional, but are these PS3 numbers really that bad? Sure it's not hitting PS2 levels, but anyone who thought it would be is crazy... it's still .5 mil for a high-cost console 2 months into launch.

But I'm sure we're all just going to look at the Wii numbers and then laugh. :/

Well ... when you consider the PS2 sold about 1 million in a matter of hours at around $400 (cheaper, yes, but still pricey) ... it is a bit jarring.

No casuals will pay the price it's at now. Is it future proofed to the point where after a few years people will want to pick it up at a cheaper price? That's the gamble. A lot rides on BR, and 1080p. All IMO of course :) This isn't a 2 year war or 5 year war. although people would like to put Sony in the grave after 2 months......We shall see..

it's just not going to work that way, dude

it's not going to come into its own in year 6, it's got to sell well from the beginning. if this thing isn't competitive over the next couple of years, forget about it.

Are you sure this is neccessarily true in Japan? The "Core" PS3 is a lot different from the XBox 360 Core and comes with more in the box than the PS2 ever did.
It's true. It's not as desirable as the 60GB version. I guess because of the wireless stuff. I've seen countless people asking for 60GB models in shops and turning away when only 20GB were available (back when there were shortages).

I can see some of the big PS3 titles being seriously delayed if userbase doesn't pick up at some point. Noone wants to launch an AAA title with only 1 million machines on the market.

Let's not forget Don Quixote (the store) apologizing to Sony for dropping the PS3 price by 10000 yen. :lol
Wow, and I thought the "5000yen off" deal I found was good... Don Quixote had to apologize? :lol

But as someone who REALLY enjoys his PS3 there really aren't too many games that appeal to japanese gamers. It's damn expensive, and what games are really avaiable? I'm interested to seewhat kind of #'s it does after VF5 is released.

Well then, I guess it's over before it started :)

in the eve of tomorrow's hardware numbers...

has the DS > PSP weekly sales been happening for year now? There were shortages after xmas 2005 and that allowed PSP > DS

I think VF5 will most definitely buoy PS3 hardware to 40k-50k at least for that week. The question is though will that be a sustained boost from there on out.

The PS3 numbers are just shocking, if true. No one seriously could have predicted this contrary to what the naysayers want to believe now.

I forgot to post this. Last year's numbers:

It's amazing how big MC threads are getting just comparing them to last year.

Well, I think that we can say that the Wii is a success in Japan. Better then Gamecube's performace by far, it will have soon two millions seller. The incredible thing is that it can mantain so high sales thanks to Wii Sports and Wii Play. The Wii is linked with DS's smashing success over there.

No! Don't just look at a price and think thats what they are selling it for.

This is what they are willing to PAY for used systems. Its their "We buy XX for this much!" list.
Ah, that's what it is, so it's only more proof that PS3 isn't rare anymore.

True. For the first 2 weeks most stores were buying the PS3 at retail -2000 Yen or so. However, the buyback price has fallen by about 15,000 - 20,000 Yen at most locations now. Used PS3 units (many unopened as well) are quite common in Japanese stores.

This needs to be quoted for truth again. I don't understand how people can even argue 'well, after the E3 announcement it was totally clear that the PS3 won't sell that well at first - it's part of their strategy'

I mean, I was one of those who thought that Japan will be Sony's market once again with the PS3 - sell as much as they can produce in the first few months etc. If those hardware numbers are true, it's truly shocking.

Unbelievable, really. I just can't wrap my head around this.

Shinoshi! Is that considered an achievement now?

Uh, GC was doing better at this point in time I think. Especially software-wise. By now the GC had Smash Bros. and Pikmin making a name for themselves in the charts.

Likewise, the PSP gave the DS a battle in early 2005. But, the PS3 isn't even putting a dent in the Wii.

Haha, that penguin is great: "Sony san, sumimasen"

Wait, I thought it said from 1/16 until Valentine's Day...

Have you not noticed how Sony has stepped up it's first and second party development over the past 2 years? I'd like to think they have a solid business strategy......Maybe I'm just a sucker :)

Yeah, exactly. Say me if I'm wrong: Sony has build some great first and second party support that will develop games for the PS3, but the costs will cause a lot of delays. Third Parties, without a decent uderbase, will develop less games for the PS3.

If this is not the syndrome N64...Exactly the same thing.

It is inevitable: "They gain in power, then they gain in arrogance and then they lose the leadership."

I understand your being over the top most of the time, but isn't it a bit early to say that? Or are you just adding fuel to the fire? :lol

Are you talking about their forums or their website?

That's where I got the avatar originally. Then it went through a couple revisions.
