Rather than shrinking it was a collateral effect of having just 2 platforms doing good (PS2 & GBA from 2001 to 2004). Same in 1999 with PSX and GB slowing just like PS2 & GBA did in the end.ethelred said:

Yes, exactly my point. It's a huge expansion for the hardware market that isn't all going to Nintendo, and it's continuing to expand. 2005 bucked a real trend, 2006 continued it, and 2007 should continue it even further. We're seeing real growth here, and that's a very good thing.
I don't think the # of consoles or platforms on the market has much to do with it.
If you look at the hardware numbers.

It's not good news when you have 2 ubiquitous platforms maturing in their product lifecyles and yet have the industry still register yoy declines in HW sold. That's the key point.

Good point, the problem with Sega is that they didn't really know what they were doing with those risks they were taking. Nintendo knows exactly what they are doing, from the presentation to the marketing and price point, everything is very well executed to reach their objective.
In many ways I think Nintendo looks at that Sega as they did at Atari, they paid a lot of attention to what's happened and planned out a strategy to avoid their fate. And much like the NES was with the Atari 2600, the Wii was built with a lot of the Dreamcast's business flaws in mind.

You can not deny that Nintendo has lost customers year after year since the NES and that this "blue ocean" strategy would have not come if they had an increasing total number of consoles like MS or Sony

It's hard to say anything with certainty about what could have been. Their new strategy first became apparent in the very healthy portable market they'd been dominating for 15 years.wazoo said:

Just Harvest Moon DS this week, 50k sold first day off a 100k shipment.Bo130 said:

Rocket Company announces Katei no Igaku for DS of course, its about health and such, they aim to sell 100.000 copies.
On Famitsu Most Wanted Charts, DQIX is the new #1, and well, there are 7 PS3 games on the top20. If you want to see it go to gamefront.

I'm sure its today's post because they did the same last week but with numbers ending 7th January but now seeing your web I realize the numbers they give were in Famitsu Top30 (I thought they were giving numbers from titles lower than Top30) so yeah its a repost of old data. FYI, CESA hasn't actually published the 2007 CESA White Papers yet. 2006 was published in July, so how could ioi gain a complete CESA 2006 figure? Simple, he passed off VGCharts content under the CESA monicker and hoped no one would notice.
