Sony has got to be freaking out about those PS3 sales. That's one steep drop off for them. It's going to be looooooong haul to hit the 1m the PS2 did in one week. Nintendo is taking them over, big time.

What are the major game releases coming out in the next weeks - particularly those for PS3 and Wii, which could change the playing field a bit?
nothing for the ps3. seriously its looking very grim for them

DS was in shortage so that number is pretty much useless

isn't VF relatively soon? even the 360 saw a slight bump with DOA4

Have we confirmed there's a shortage? Cvx? :)

Edit: What's the LTDs for the PS3, Wii, DS and PSP?

How can he confirm a shortage? The DS has been selling out at most locations week after week every week since the DSLite was released.

So, if Wii and DS are both selling out, Nintendo knows what's going to be on top of the list by which they shipped more of.
They should make it a tie just to see what happens.

Wii 93,708
DSL 89,287
PSP 48,804
PS3 25,531
PS2 22,663
Xbox360 9,035
GBM 1,959
GBASP 1,547
GC 611
GBA 79
DS 41

that is a big difference from the Famitsu numbers.

Wii domination begins :O

I don't really see Mario Party extending those numbers either. Though I could be wrong. It'll be interesting to see what happens when Virtua Fighter comes out.

The PSP results are once again disappointing - down on last year and paired with terrible software sales yet again. In the top 100 of 2006 the Wii managed to sell more software than the PSP. The PSP is doing extremely badly when it comes to software sales.

Mario Party (even for the GCN) has done fairly decent numbers.
I think Mario Party 7 did around 450k, though the previous ones did greater numbers (over 600k I think).

Fire Emblem wont sell as much as the portable iterations does. I compare it to Pokemon - selling a shitload on handhelds, but not so much on consoles.

I agree - Mario Party has a high chance of targetting the same gamers as Wii Play and Wii Sports - and maybe even less of them, because of the Mario Party legacy IP that might scare some people off.

Fire Emblem - that could have the opportunity of being a small system seller but for the fact that the Wii already sells out. I am afraid that the majority of the buyers so far are (hardcore Nintendo fans aside) casual gamers, gamers migrating over from the DS, and people fascinated by the wiimote as seen in Wii Sports - not the target demographic for a strategic tactical RPG. Its a bad position for Nintendo this early in the game - Nintendo needs "hardcore" games for "hardcore gamers" to attract them to the system, but at the same time they don't have the user base yet to actually make the games an overwhelming success. Just look at the first year of the DS - Advance Wars, Kirby Canvas, ect - all games which would have certainly done much better later in its lifetime.

I don't expect VF5 to sell that much either, but I listed it as well.

Edit: Completely forgot about Naruto.

Wii:
January: Excite Truck (today)
February: Cooking Mama, Fire Emblem
March: Sonic
Unspecified, but likely by April/May: Mario Party 8, Dragon Quest Swords

PS3:
January: Enchant Arm
February: Virtual Fighter 5
March: Gundam Musou

The Wii has a few more games in total looking at the lists, but a lot of them are junk and even the heavy hitters are really only medium-level games. The PS3 has basically nothing at all other than the three games mentioned, but both Gundam and VF5 should do pretty well.

There's that Naruto game coming out around the same time as Fire Emblem, I think. The Gekitou Ninja Taisen games have all sold over 300k (not sure about the 1st one). And, to add to that the new series starting (Hurricane Chronicles or whatever) may further boost the sales.

I wonder how many PS3s Sony will ship with VF5?

And maybe I'm blind... but I don't see MP8 on jarrod's list.
