Good point. I apply the adjustments to the full LTD but not to the PSP number. I'll fix that. :)

Edit:
Here you go! :)

Is this like Japan's XSeed? Making a small income from selling obscure western games to a tiny Japanese fanbase?
GTA is the most successful western franchise of the last decade. They do seem like a small publisher, though, so it's kinda surprising they're releasing it instead of Capcom.

So is Bayonetta and Tekken 6 responsible for the apparent bump in PS3 sales? Or is it a general hike as we get closer to Christmas?
The overall holiday bump shouldn't start for a few more weeks.

Also, anyone think the Wii will ever gain top console position again? Seems like PS3 is now handily beating it out.
Absolutely. A product having a great month and settling a little higher than the previous top dog for a while isn't much to extrapolate the rest of the generation on. Or as PSP 2008 demonstrates, even a half year on top doesn't mean a permanent switch.

[WII] Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Square Enix)

What does everyone think? 'Meh' sales or great sales? Game looks pretty great imo
Hard to say. It's part of a well-selling sub-series, but it also plays completely differently. The Final Fantasy name helps, but as we've just seen even a solid FF effort on the most successful system ever doesn't necessarily do much. We know a waggly Dragon Quest spinoff pushed big numbers on Wii so maybe a pointery FF one will, but (non-pointery) FF spinoff Chocobo's Dungeon didn't do much.

PS: Wii ain't ever going to hit half of PS2 sales at this rate.
If the house thinks there are good odds on that, they must be on the Pachter 2010 train.

It continues. Not long now until Wii software sales dip below 360's. Though that is partially because 360's software sales increased 33.33333% this week.
Worth noting that in the Famitsu software pie where the amount of each software sold matters, Wii has been pretty consistently in the ~20% range the last few weeks, behind DS at its usual 40-50%. X360 is sometimes beating PS2, though.

I'm counting on the "GameCube effect." The few games that had successful releases on GameCube in Japan have done well with their Wii counterparts (e.g. Nintendo games, Tales of Symphonia, RE).
Exception: Naruto.

Wow, they really had high expectations for M&S, eh. Wonder if it'll be clearanced out or they'll try to ride the holiday wave to higher sales.
The first was leggy, they probably expect the same from the second. I couldn't tell you its first day, but it went from a 67K first week to 438K by the end of 2007 to 594K by the end of 2008.

Based on the latest Famitsu hardware numbers...
PSP comparisons: After 255 weeks, PSP is where PS2 was at 198.4 weeks (December 17, 2003), where DS was at 105.5 weeks (December 7, 2006), and where GBA was at 175.9 weeks (July 31, 2004).

X360 comparisons: After 203 weeks, X360 is where GCN was at 20.5 weeks (January 31, 2002), where PS3 was at 42.4 weeks (August 28, 2007), and where Wii was at 6.1 weeks (January 8, 2007).

PS3 comparisons: After 155 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 57.4 weeks (April 4, 2001), where PSP was at 85.4 weeks (July 26, 2006), where GCN was at 183.5 weeks (March 16, 2005), and where Wii was at 48.7 weeks (November 2, 2007).

Wii comparisons: After 152 weeks, Wii is where GBA was at 104.4 weeks (March 19, 2003), where DS was at 80.1 weeks (June 12, 2006), where PS2 was at 125.3 weeks (July 23, 2002), and where PSP was at 173.8 weeks (April 4, 2008).

DSi comparisons: After 52 weeks, DSi is where GBASP was at 74.8 weeks (July 17, 2004) and where DSL was at 24.9 weeks (August 19, 2006).

Based on this week's Media Create hardware numbers...
DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 41.0 / 59.0 make this the first week PSP has beat DS since March. This brings total shares to 68.3 / 31.7. At this week's rates PSP catches up in 769.8 weeks (August 3, 2024). If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 235.7 weeks (May 9, 2014).

X360 vs PS3: Weekly shares of 14.4 / 85.6 bring total shares to 23.6 / 76.4. If PS3 stopped selling and X360 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 427.2 weeks (January 19, 2018).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 55.5 / 44.5 bring total shares to 30.2 / 69.8. At this week's rates, PS3 catches up to Wii in 685.3 weeks (December 21, 2022). If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 136.3 weeks (June 13, 2012).

Week over week, PSP Go causes an obvious boost, but there's not much pattern beyond that.
X360

Through the first forty-four weeks of the year, overall sales are down. However, the systems can be split into camps of 3 up and 3 down. Here's how the year-to-date year-over-year percents stand as of now.

Wii: -49.2%
DSL+DSi: +12.0%
PS2: -55.4%
PS3: +50.0%
PSP+PSPGo: -44.1%
X360: +43.5%

Home hardware: -24.3%
Portable hardware: -18.6%

Nintendo hardware: -16.4%
Sony hardware: -29.5%

Sum of all hardware: -20.5%

You may notice DS's percentage of increase took a sudden drop, and took related figures with it. This is because we've hit the time when DSi was introduced last year.

Last year:
0.1

This year:
0.1

Damn horrible. A 5% sell through lol. Mario & Sonic could go on to sell 500k but the horrible start is horrible now and later. MMV can't catch a break. 3D Dot Heroes disappoints me a lot. Summon Night isn't as bad as the others but a port of the 1st title did 44k first week on DS, and the 2nd one port did 28k. So a brand new one at 16k first day doesn't look good either.

Given 3 of the 5 titles in the prediction set are in the sub-10k first day, I think we should focus on the bigger, well-known titles...so next week prediction set will be:
[NDS] Mega Man Battle Network: Operate Shooting Star (Capcom)
[PSP] J-League Pro Soccer Club! 6: Pride of J (Sega)
[WII] Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers (Square Enix)
[PS3] Dragon Ball: Raging Blast (Namco Bandai)
Those should be the biggest, even if stuff like Battle Spirits, Lunar or Higurashi could debut on the top10 they are way more risky. Disclaimer:
Like last time: there's no need for formatting, just rounded to the thousands numbers for the week, Famitsu numbers, deadline is when Famitsu leak hits (so it doesn't interfere with the thread). Usual places to get some perspective: garaph comgnet amazon.co.jp lepton yso

Also, once again, HAHAHA at PSPGo launch sales.
I'm kinda surprised we haven't seen a bullish press release from Sony talking about how awesome the sales of the "Playstation Portable Brand" are since the release of the Go.

It may sound funny but I just realised the DSi has been out for a year, jesus christ how time flies..Also I think the DSi LL will sell quite good, the whole "one DS for many" motto does make sense after reading the Iwata Ask session. It's simply not just a DS for seniors.

Horrible start for M&S, Sakura Note and 3D Dot Heroes. Tamagotchi keeps outdoing itself every year.

Next week should hopefully be more interesting. :/

:(

thought it will do at least 10K first day , even Infamous did better that it.

I guess there is still no place for new RPG on consoles ( aka PS3 ) in Japan , it's well known brand names or nothing , or maybe it's because of Famitsu review ?

hope the game can pull a Demon's Souls somehow

Exception: Naruto.

i think that has to do more with the makers of the show completely murdering the series' popularity with mountains of filler and oversaturation of games in the same series.

Sin & Punishment 2... position 21.

I don't care about sales age but that's a damn shame. Whenever Wii gets a worthwhile hardcore game, shit like this happens. Guess we won't be getting Sin & Punishment 3.

Ah ok, so it was the 13,094,626 LTD that was the correct one. I havnt followed the PSP LTD that much lately, so i was wondering which LTD that were the correct one. Thanks for checking into it and thanks for fixing it! :)

I think i missed that the PSP passed 13 million units sold by the way. Congratulations to Sony for this accomplishment! :)

I don't think it really matters if it bombs in japan or not. Wasn't the reason why there's a sequel in the first place, because of the good sales of the original after it was released over here on the VC?

NMH bombed in Japan, did well here, got a sequel.

Japan just frequently doesnt make any fucking sense to me. 3d Dot Game Heroes seems like a game completely aimed at them and their retro RPG fetishism and instead Infamous picks up more sales? What?

I went to research for first week/first day ratios for the series and it was a failure -- it's all over the place. Haha. But, restricting to the PS3 entries, 2008's was 1.36 and 2009's was 1.86, which would put 2009 first week ranging from 192,000 to 264,000. No way to even try and forecast anything based on that.

Based on this week's Media Create hardware numbers...

Through the first forty-four weeks of the year, overall sales are down. However, the systems can be split into camps of 3 up and 3 down. Here's how the year-to-date year-over-year percents stand as of now.

Wii: -49.2%
DSL+DSi: +12.0%
PS2: -55.4%
PS3: +50.0%
PSP+PSPGo: -44.1%
X360: +43.5%

Home hardware: -24.3%
Portable hardware: -18.6%

Nintendo hardware: -16.4%
Sony hardware: -29.5%

Sum of all hardware: -20.5%

You may notice DS's percentage of increase took a sudden drop, and took related figures with it. This is because we've hit the time when DSi was introduced last year.
Also of note, the 360 has now surpassed 2008's total:
Code:
2005 - 70,567
2006 - 194,134
2007 - 242,639
2008 - 322,097
2009 - 325,370
It's interesting how it showed the same year-over-year growth characteristic both in Japan and US since launch (although it's possible it won't grow in the US this year, it's ahead so far) despite the huge differences between the markets.

Is it finally time for M-Create to delist the venerable PS2?
I hope not.

In the entirety of 2006 the original Xbox sold just 1,769 units and M-C posted weekly numbers every week (10, 20, 7, 3 etc.).

They just need to ignore the fact it will be 10 years since they started...

3D Dot Heroes numbers make me sad. That game could have sold like 10 times as much if it was on an HD console instead of the Wii. I'd totally buy it as a $15 dollar download.

Is it lack of promotion of the game, or what?

I mean it seems like the game is facking tailor made for Japan.

All those people awaiting FFXIII...I mean, this type of game would seem perfect for them, no?

I would think the HD Blu-ray fancy-pants XIII would have the least in common with that game of any FF. And we've just seen what an FF attempt at a retro throwback can do.

[Wii] Mario&Sonic at Shitty Olympics 7800 10%
[PS3] 3D Dot Heroes 7700 38%
[360] Winning Eleven 2010 4800 32%
[DS] Tamagotchi no Narikiri Channel 3200 5%
[PS3] NBA Live 10 2600 23%
[360] Tayutama LE 2100 46%
[PSP] NBA Live 10 1400 17%
[360] Namco Museum 1300 19%
[PS3] Colin McRay Dirt 2 1200 19%

[360] Tayutama 720 24%
[PSP] Suikoden I+II Best 620 10%
[360] Fallout 3 Platinum Collection 550 13%

That is dia-fucking-bolical for M&S and Tamagotchi. Summon Night did OK I guess. 3DDot pretty bad, hope it didn't cost them much to make :(

Great Pro Evo sales though, that's like a 60-70% improvement on last year? Infamous surprisingly good too, actually. Especially for a Cero Z.

Yeah, but like...you would think among those waiting for the next FF that there'd be a fair number of rpg-nuts who'd be tickled pink by the apparent nostalgia trip that is Dot Heroes.

I don't know. It just seems like a quintessentially 'Japanese' game. Yet it'll probably do much better in the West than this. Don't understand the Japanese market at all :p How did Demon's Souls do by comparison?

see Infamous , same day as WE and did 10K

unless Japanese saw Sony yellow logo on Infamous cover it and thought it's the next game from Team Saru , then there is something seriously wrong here.

it's RPG , and it's Zelda gameplay-wise on PS3 , also latest From RPG game ( Demon's Souls ) did 130K and this game is more " japanese " than Demon Soul , so it "should" do better than that , dunoo what is wrong here , lack of marketing ? Japanese PS3 owners are broke for now or just waiting for FFXXIII so there is no place in their heads for new RPG now , I don't know.

Ugh, 3D Dot Game Heroes... I knew it was a niche title, but I expected it to do better than that. I was thinking around 20K day one, 40-50K by the end of the week. I certainly didn't expect it to be ousted by Infamous. Was there just no marketing push for the game or something?

M&S also did terrible, but so did the prequel, so I'm not overly concerned with that... yet.

And of course, great showing for PES. The PS3 version is finally starting to pull some numbers reminiscent of the early PS2 days. Still, a far cry from the 500K - 600K openers of like 6-10 though.
