Media Create Sales: Week 16, 2017 (Apr 17 - Apr 23)

Anyone think that Fire Emblem Echoes performance may partly be due to Fates having way too much content? Personally I know I'm not planning on getting Echoes any time soon even though it looks interesting because I've only finished 1 out of the 3 campaigns for Fates. I guess Fates released earlier in Japan though, so it's less of an excuse.

TBH Gaiden is a rather unique game in the series (well FE8 is a huge callback to it), that had a unique feature in dungeon crawling that was never seen again.

I honestly think that the issues with Fates (the story was bad especially in Conquest and Rev) and the oversaturation of the series in general has more to do with it imho.

Shadow Dragon's biggest issue is that it was an incredibly ugly game, while this game is completely the opposite.
 
I'm starting to get convinced that the Switch might reach or even surpass the Wii worldwide. You can quote me on that after a couple of years.

There is no Wii Sports but there is no need to. The hardware itself is the gimmick. There is actual demand for a hybrid and Nintendo finally nailed what they and Sony have been trying for decades with the Switch.
 
While I think other factors are present, I think the sales of Echoes are mainly due to it being a remake of a game not many people were dying for a remake of. It's still a game the FE hardcore will pick up however, which is what we've seen here I think.

130k for a remake of the very old, black sheep entry in the series isn't bad. It's not amazing, but it's not bad. I imagine we'll see significantly better sales when the series gets its mainline title on the Switch next year.

Actually, I think this is a game a significant chunk of hardcore fans will pass on, making it a questionable choice for a remake.
 
Echoes is a victim of timing. I'm a HUGE Fire Emblem fan and I love a lot of things about it and it looks like they put a lot of love into it, but I'm skipping it because it's on 3DS and I got too much to play on Switch as it is.

So Pharrell Williams has greenlit the Panasonic Jungle 2!? Excellent. I will get this along with the Gakken Ganbaru Tablet Monster Hunter 5 bundle.

It kinda goes both ways I think. Fans that have been around forever might skip this one if they're more familiar with Gaiden, while I think fans who may have jumped on with the GCN/Wii/DS iterations might pick this one up as it looks to drop a lot of the focus on supports and sports a more classic art style.

Yeah, I'm not really sure what I'm going to do just yet. I have the special edition preordered, and I want to get the game, especially since I know FE games tend to hold their value (most even increase in price over time) but it's really hard for me to get excited about a 3DS game when I'm enveloped in Switch fever. In May I'll still be busy with MK8 Deluxe and Persona 5 and I'll be picking up Disgaea 5 as well. Man, 2017 is such a wonderful year to be a gamer.

I feel the same way. And I have bought every English released Fire Emblem previously. It's weird since I am traditionally more of a retro gamer, so graphics have never really mattered much to me, but it is hard to go back to the 3DS after the Switch. Can't really explain why.
 
It would have been nice if they could have ported Echoes to the Switch, but I realize that would have been a lot of work, especially since they'd have to adapt two screens of content to one.

Capcom expecting more sales and income in 2018 than 2017, what titles do they have for the next year?

Looks like everything underperformed for Capcom. I really wish RE7 had done better, it's a fantastic game. Hopefully it continues to have good legs at least.
 
Well I guess Double Cross underperformed the least.

Capcom is obviously banking on Ulta Street Fighter, probably has a break even point of like 100 copies sold.:P

They were happy with the Resident Evil ports, their Monster Hunter Pachinko machine, and the mobile Otome game.

They were generally satisfied with RE7 and MHXX's performance, even though they missed their targets.

Don't expect Dead Rising 5 or Monster Hunter Stories 2.

Surely they cant say they are super disappointed when their biggest franchise sell half less than its previous shitty entry.

Haha, I mean, I think even announcing the 4 million expectation was pretty conservative, but at the same time, I'm not sure they have the talent on staff to make a game that would move 6-7+ million units anymore.

Would that be enough for them to survive though if they keep getting barely satisfying result.

Their two big franchise, RE and MH barely meet their expectations. They don't have anything interesting to show in the future aside from MvC:I and a brand new Monster Hunter. I just don't see a future which feels optimistic for them. If I was invested in them, I would be getting my money out.

They don't even have the leverage of mobile like Konami and Square Enix.

This was their fourth year of increasing operating profits. Digital margins along with decreased development budgets and marketing expenses are really helping them.

They will need to start performing eventually though, since you can't decrease costs forever, and eventually you stop converting from physical to digital margins.
 
If this keep goes on, Capcom is going to be one of the new doom company lol.

And i remember many said that RE7 is going to get carried by West lol?^^ It can't even reach 5 mil in the end.

Company rarely directly said that they are not satisfied though.
 
Nintendo expect 10m Switch to be sold between April - March 2018.

Also 0 Wii U shipped last quarter, this mean it was discontinued in 2016 Q4. Final LTD is 13.56m
 
Zelda has officially cemented itself as one of GOAT launch titles. Not packed in and outsold the system during it's first quarter. Jesus

This is definitely true. You have to really underperform for Capcom to say such.

That said, I'm looking forward to their presentation tomorrow, as well as the eventual translation of their Q&A (this comes like a week later).

I am also looking for Capcom reaction there. They had been disappointing for quite some time now. And i believe Investor probably is having very low trust toward their upper management right now.
 
Sounds like a perfect time for Capcom to announce to investors that they are shifting platforms with Monster Hunter.
