As you can see here comgnet determines VERY LITTLE! The posts about "it's going to be 30K first week b/c it has 33 preorders" are a joke. It could sell far less or far more FW for all we know.

For one, it seems like the preorders only started on 7/24.

Comgnet 7/24
Hyrule Warriors premium pack debuts with 12 points.

Then we got this:
Comgnet 8/4
Hyrule Warriors- 18+15= 33 total

The game still has 10 days to before it releases, and the number could go up. Comgnet is somewhat useful when comparing similar franchises, but typically they mean very little because it only represents 16 stores in one prefecture. Also for what it's worth, technically the Nintendo Direct was after 8/4 right (aka 8/5 in Japan)?

If I recall correctly, Comg isn't the best place to preorder it. It's doing fairly solid on Amazon, now the limited edition is 52nd best selling of 2014. It's currently at 7 with the limited editions 45 and 85.

Yeh Hyrule has already outsold Mario 3D World for the year on there too. I'm not sure how many sales it really accounts for though, since I noticed Titanfall on 360 there in the top 100 of the year....

There are only a couple aberrations there, but that is to be expected. This is not an exact science, we can only look at the trends. All the games you list above with 30-35pts sold between 22k-33k in first week, so I expect Hyrule Warriors to be in that range. Of course it is just a guess, but it is based on past trends and thus is certainly not a "joke".

Also, you seem a bit worked up about this, so take a deep breath and try and relax.

Shame to see no interest in Lost Dimension. It looks low budget, but the team seems to have gotten the most out of it.

I fear those are sales pts, which are different from preorder pts.
Example: Pikmin 3 ended with 74pt its preorders.

I still can't get over the fact that SE released an updated retail version of Bravely Default and subtitled it "For the Sequel".

If I understand their strategy correctly, there won't be any traditional porting required - build your games once and they run on any device that is powered by their architecture at the appropriate settings, just like on PC. If this works out properly, Japanese third parties wouldn't have to choose between targeting their handheld-centric home market or the more console-friendly West anymore; they would be able to hit both without spending any extra resources. I feel this could be a very appealing prospect for Japanese developers that don't rely on IPs with massive Western appeal.

Besides, by 2016 we'll have affordable mobile chips with a featureset that is modern enough to support most of the popular third party engines. Unreal Engine 4, Cryengine and Unity are already running on the latest iDevices.

Obviously, hence "if executed properly". I'd like to think Nintendo will come out of this gen with even more hunger and focus than after the GBA/GC era.

Wouldn't that require the handheld and console to have the same performance? Would that be viable considering third parties will be developing on the PS4? Wouldn't that also mean that their console and handheld will have the same libraries effectively killing sales for both since you only need to own one to play all those games?

GamesMaya report (first day sales):

- Senran Kagura 2 limited version sold out. But the standard version had a slow start.

Heh, hopefully sales get better during the week-end. About the sell-through %, might simply be Marvelous! shipping more copies, due to the success of the Vita game. Pre-orders seems to be pretty similar to Burst, so I dunno. Seems like the most logical explanation, based on data from 16 stores :p

Anyway, Level-5 apparently getting to ready to launch v. 2.0 for Wonder Flick. It's like they have totally forgotten about the console version, ha ha.

I expect only the PlayStation versions will launch, to be honest.

The numbers for all the games you listed which aren't Hyrule Warriors, as MPL says, are the weekly numbers (i.e. released once a week on a Sunday). Your Hyrule Warriors numbers are daily (i.e. pre-orders).

As a general rule daily numbers seem to be 1: 1000 with FW sales, whereas weekly numbers seem to be 1: 500 with FW sales. So I'm... not quite sure what you're going for with these comparisons.

Also: shame about Lost Dimensions. I don't really like FuRyu, but Lancarse seem cool and the game itself looks good. SRPG's that aren't from established franchises seem to be bombing on PS consoles lately (i.e. Natural Doctrine failed too).

Odd about Senran Kagura as well. Maybe the shipment was just really high because they were expecting Shinovi Versus-esque FW numbers again.

Might be an idea to bundle SK1 & 2 together, remaster 'em for proper hardware and then dump 'em out as a PS3 / Vita cross-buy double pack.

I've no idea if it's a good idea from a business point of view, I just want to play the first two games to be honest.

Both Lost Dimension and Natural Doctrine don't look too good tbh. I'll take it though since its so rare to get srpg's these days.

Comgnet is sometimes weird for some specific games. This might be the case for this one (Musou franchise? Zelda franchise? Surprise numbers due to good sales without preorders?).

Honestly I don't think they'll ever remaster Burst (it was 2 separate games in japan, and the gameplay is really rough), but 2 has some really good early impressions. Depends on the sales I guess, but the 3DS architecture might make this hard.

I just think that with the amount of merchandise and those localization news, this is a good and healthy franchise for Marvelous. It'll be more interesting to see on which platform the next main entry (not Versus) will come out on, fits pretty well with the debates that happened here those last weeks (where will devs go post Vita and PS3, what will the 4DS be, etc).

Edit: this SK2 sell-through might also be because they expect good legs.

I see I'm not the only one making that typo, ha ha.

HW release will be a good test to see whether a game that was heavily advertised in magazine and stuff will perform better than TW101 that was basically sent to die. Problem is: there really isn't a similar game to compare it with (I mean, a Musou game with a Nintendo property published by a 3rd party publisher).

Not expecting any HW bump, though.

Why in the world would they expect that? This is a frontloaded series and the majority of sales will come from the first 4 days. For that reason I think the slow start won't improve much in the weekend. It'd be weird if it doesn't do better than Burst though! That'd probably signal a move of fanbase loyalty/expectations to the Vita instead.

Shame to see no interest in Lost Dimension. It looks low budget, but the team seems to have gotten the most out of it.
Unfortunately it was going to be a hard sell with that kind of battle system.

Lost Dimension big bomba, that must have hurt the developer and publisher. It is not common to have such bombas for niche titles.

Senran Kagura 2 doesn't look well either. But if the gameplay is similar to SK1 & Burst, I won't be sad if the game doesn't perform very well and they turn to something like Shinovi Versus gameplay as the standard for the series (regardless of the platform).

Yeah, because screw variety! Screw those that like both gameplay! ;)

Marvelous mismanaged the SK franchise big time.

It should have stayed on the 3DS, it has a broader appeal like Love Plus and an hypothetical Shinovi Versus on 3DS tied with the anime could have sold more than the 150k it sold on Vita.

Now I feel like SK games will bomb on both 3DS (it's already happening) and Vita, unless they announce a new anime season to help boost Estival Versus.

It's not random, and, it's not really 'port begging' in the bannable sense.

It should have been on Vita. That's where the audience for anime tits lives. The numbers will bear this out.

Errr... could we please wait for actual data before declaring SK2 a bomba and talking about franchise mismanagement? There's already been quite a few posts in that sense (including some not-so-subtle port begging).

Maybe the problem is not the platform but the genre. It's fanbase may prefer a Musou 3d game rather than a sidescroller.

Yeah, because screw variety! Screw those that like both gameplay! ;)

They may keep it 2D, but they need to add more variety to the gameplay, because as 2D brawlers, Senran Kagura & Burst are very poor.

Marvelous mismanaged the SK franchise big time.

It should have stayed on the 3DS, it has a broader appeal like Love Plus and an hypothetical Shinovi Versus on 3DS tied with the anime could have sold more than the 150k it sold on Vita.

Mandatory Sammy Samusu "every game would sell better on 3DS" post, with invented numbers.

It should have been on Vita. That's where the audience for anime tits lives. The numbers will bear this out.

While this may be true, there is no evidence the audience for anime tits in Vita is so bigger than in 3DS that would make it so logical (look at Senran Kagura numbers), so it is not a great argument. They have the engine, the game probably was not expensive to make and the other games sold well on 3DS, so there is no reason for them to ditch the platform.

Senran Kagura sales:

Code:
3DS	Senran Kagura Burst 94,344
3DS	Senran Kagura: Shoujotachi no Shinei 91,811
PSV	Senran Kagura Shinovi Versus: Shoujotachi no Shoumei 145,979

Looking at this I think they should make another vita game if this one doesn't do as well as they would like.

The Vita audience seems like they would be more receptive to stuff like this although the vita game did have an anime run during its release iirc. Still the vita game performed almost 60% better.

It's not random, and, it's not really 'port begging' in the bannable sense.

The creator of SK's vision for the series was a world filled with 3D breasts. That's why the mainline games are on the 3DS while Vita gets cast off games like Bon Appetit and Versus.

I'm pretty confident that Senran Kagura is better fit for the Vita's audience. But I guess we'll see soon enough.

By the way, what's going on in that boxart? Are there breasts coming out of that girl's back? Is her head on backwards? Bravely Default's cover is looking pretty bad, too, reminds me of that Castlevania rerelease for the DS.

And he made Shinovi Versus because he wanted breasts that could be licked. Apparently that's the more attractive product.

Although I do think Senran Kagura would probably do better on Vita, a large part of the Shinovi Versus's much stronger sales were due to the fact that the cartoon was airing at the same time.
I doubt a new release would be doing those numbers, and would probably be closer (albeit still higher) to Senran Kagura Burst (or 2 if it actually had decent sales, but a high shipment).

It's just Day 1 sales. It will still improve in the coming days.

Does somebody knows how much it did sell overseas? They seem to enjoy the amount that is why they are fairly confident to make a 3DS sequel.

nothing surpsing, YW again.

I wonder, are those Atelier sales decent for the series? I never followed those games sales. surely I never expected high numbers from those games but still it seemed like that they were doing decent.

Also, a good number of Vita owners probably own a 3DS. SmokyDave's proposed port of the 3DS games wouldn't necessarily perform that well on the Vita if so.

Ah I didn't realize those were launch instead of preorder points. Sorry about that. I'm not actually getting worked up about it, but clearly it's hard to tell that through my text :). As others had been saying I thought comgnet was useful for comparing things in the same franchise for relative growth/decline, and not so useful when using a single data point. I said that in the post as well. I'm pretty sure this will sell worse than any other Musou, but it's pretty hard to tell where in X range will it fall. Also, looking at the preorder points Mpl just posted, it's doing comparable to 3D World o_O? Interesting to see Pikmin 3 had far more preorders up front then.

Xseed and Marvelous said it exceeded their expectations, particularly in Europe.

And 2's gameplay is a lot more varied and polished, some fans think it's better than Versus too (since it's a mix of this and Burst, + various other refinements).
Really, I don't think they care that much about sales once it gets past a point (100k?), as the licence grew since Burst (anime & mangas, bigger audience both JP and western, etc), and its fanbase seems to be quite dedicated, not just the "sony/nintendo fan just buying the game that may vaguely appeal to him" category.

Youkai Watch 2 has been pretty amazing. It seems to be dropping slowly lately.

First week: 1.2 million
Second week 260,000 (-80%)
Third Week 190,000 (-23%)
Fourth Week 160,000 (-21%)

The game will have legs that is for sure but the question is how good will they be? It will be interesting to see if the game is able to only drop by 15 to 20% next week.

Senran Kagura is probably going to stick with multiple platforms unless one of the games outright bombs or something.

Funny, I seem to recall you doing the exact same thing in the other direction a month back.

Nice glass house. Come up with a single example yet?

You are still butthurt that I complained about the obvious stealth port-begging hidden behind the same argument that "companies should release games on 3DS instead of other platforms because it is the logical thing to do". If you cared to read instead of acting as a member of the N-defense-force, you would see that the same post you quoted had me complaining about an user using the fact that on SK sold better on Vita indicates that the "logical" thing was to port older SK games to Sony platforms and ditch 3DS.

Besides, apart from Ys (biggest Falcom series at the time) and Disgaea (biggest NIS series) being launched at DS and bombed, we still have niche RPGs or VNs that sold better on Vita than on 3DS (Conception, Extstetra), and others were a tie (Time Travelers and Zero Escape, even the latter being a sequel of a DS-only game). So my argument that some games won't do better just by being released in a platform with a bigger install base is proven correct.

Contrary to you and other "fans" trying to hide their obvious preferences under a false pretense of being impartial, I have never stated that every or almost every game would do bad if released on Nintendo platforms, I said some would, and I have data to back up my statement. As for you, what data do you have to back up that every game or almost every game should be on a Nintendo platform because it is the logical thing to do? What data have you to support that my argument that just migrating to 3DS will make series traditionally on PSP/PSV to sell a lot better than they do?

And talking about glass houses, a simple CTRL+F in your post history tells who you are. But I don't care about your preferences, I just hate port begging and cynical console-war posts.
