Based on the fact that in December, the 3DS gets 2 multi-million seller that have system selling qualities (MK7 and MH3G), the sequel a million selling series (IE Go), a few game with decent sales potential/system selling abilities (New Love Plus, SD Gundam). Plus multiple bundles and a new color coming in late November.

400k could be reachable and there's no reason to be so aggressive about it. Heck, last year, the PSP reached 325k in one week with "just" MHP3rd.
Not to mention that it is besting the DS 2005 numbers and if it follows this trend, it has the potential to do so. Holiday effects and pent up demand should also be taken into account.

I don't know why you are so aggressive Kenka, it was just a prediction.

I think the 3DS can potentially matchup with the DS's 2005, not sure if it will or not. I think it might peak earlier than the DSs did and keep at an even level for the rest of the holiday instead of climbing week to week.

Just Dance Wii begins its majestic march to 500k.

If it does sell 500k all said and done, I think I should predict things for a living.

i wonder if we'll have those old "XXX weeks until system X catches up to system Y" stats once again after the vita is out. it was interesting to see the ridiculous numbers that resulted in abnormal weeks and how weak/strong a system looked compared to past gen systems.

Oh god lol, I remember those. Think I was lurking back then. Who did that? Cheesemeister? Or was it Josh. It was hilarious either way, especially when a console had a good week at the same time another console had a bad week. The stats would be so ridiculous.

I knew it was a silly comparison, but it still made me laugh.

I think this is a forgone conclusion. I'm really glad for From Software.

How new is FS? Would be nice to put them on the list of dev houses that exploded this gen with Level 5, and perhaps Majesco (didn't they make cooking mama?) But I'm not sure how much success Majesco has had recently, they were killing it for such a small little company at the beginning of the gen though.

Sony couldn't cut the price. They were already losing over $200 per console.

Yeah well.... they will this time. I see bad things ahead for the PSV outside of its launch. There will be shitloads of demand, but I dont see the mass audience accepting that price, the market has spoken....repeatedly.... about these goddamned prices. I see the PSV having a slow mid the late next year after the first quarter or so of 2012.

Then Sony will cut that price and everyone and their mothers will buy it. A total repeat of this current gen with the PS handheld taking off, just later than its competition did.

Of course it'd be a lot harder for Sony to cut the price without weathering a big loss.

Makes me wonder what will happen if it enters into a 3DS situation, which is a very real possibility.

Actually, the cost of the components in Vita will take huge price drops as it's assimilated into mobile phones. I'm not sure on the road map for when that will happen.

What the hell, why do you make even such an assumption (you and the others ?) 600k was something totally unreal. There is no law stating that it must be some season-cyclic stuff. There is 1% chance the 3DS hits such a score. I don't think you guys realize that DS scores in 2005/2006 were totally out of this world. No anecdote, even Chris' graph, allows you to say that the holidays will such a spike in sales.

400k ? Based on what ? Nothing.
-Nintendo will be very successful with the 3DS.However,NDS numbers are nearly impossible to replicate for several reasons.

Is there any chance of the Wii passing up the PS3 in terms of YTD hardware? I know Nintendo usually pulls off some pretty nasty Decembers, plus with the launch of Skyward Sword...

Totally possible.
-The PS3 has already won 2011.Basically, the PS3 needs to sell 0 units

-It probably went unnoticed, but the PS3 won FY 2010

So here's the real question: can the Wii beat the PS3 in December?

-The Wii has always dominated two months: January and December

-This year, however, the PS3 has finally managed to outsell the Wii during January

Jan%2BMC_thumb.jpg

-The PS3 price drop is having the desired effect

-The PS3 has a stronger third party support than any other platform

- The PS3 is undefeated in 2011

I find it interesting that the psp and ps3 are managing to sell nearly the same year to year after such a long time on the market while Nintendo is strugelling to outmatch their last year performance with a new console on the market.

The only way I see the Wii beating the PS3's YTD is if they drop the price and LoZ SS exceeds expectations.

Yeah, Wii's done for. Hopefully Nintendo and 3rd parties don't shit the bed next time around, it still amazes me how much opportunity was squandered with Wii.

No, they are in third worldwide. MS reports earnings Thursday. Sony will report November 2, and we'll be able to see if they've made up any ground, but there's no chance they've passed MS yet.

Just for the record, Nintendo's is scheduled for Oct 27.

The gap is really close -

57m - X360
54m - PS3

Streams may cross 2012

That probably won't happen until the iPhone 5, or MAYBE the Galaxy S III. Still, the costs won't go down significantly enough until 6-12 months later, especially if the iPhone is gobbling up production resources.

Well, I didn't feel that agressive,
did I :(((
?

The big difference between the DS in 2005 and now is that the DS had a lot of backlog titles which built up in sales before the holidays hit like Nintendogs, Brain Training or Tamagotchi. You could see back then that the backlog was much sought after by new buyers, which fueled much of the outstanding sales we saw back then.

This year, I don't see any entry in the 3DS catalogue which could prove to have the same legs. You could argue though that MH3G and the Nintendo titles could do the trick. But for me, we have lack the incentives to think that 3DS will explode in sales like DS did back then.

But I also was wrong to jump in the Nostradamus discussion. Who knows what will happen in the current configuration. Well, as you said, I had no reason to react.

Ahahahahaha I hope this spin doctor is joking.

You do realise that weeks 3, 4, and 5 for NDS were Christmas, correct? 3DS is yet to experience its first Christmas. Hence that Christmas-sized gap between DS and 3DS for most of the year.

The way things are going, 3DS will almost certainly be above DS before its first Christmas even hits.

Ah, I'm expecting a good debut for Go Vacation.

Would 50K be considered good? I expect it to do better than the fishing game released a few weeks back.

Except from Dead Island everything else has poor sales.

Macross and Naruto significant drop comparing to previous entries, Go Vacation, Tetris and Deus Ex almost zero movement. Pink 3DS has high sellthrough.

Huh. I thought from the fact that there was no drop this week (and the horrible combination of black and light pink) that it would have low demand. I'm guessing 65-75k for 3DS next week.

Nice that Dead Island is doing well, though.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Week of Wii's release.
The week before that.

PS3 passed the LTD of 360 the week Wii came out and passed them both. :)
Thanks for those cold-case files! ; ) But that situation is not really the same, as Wii practically flew by the competition in its first week. It would have been really interesting if Wii started at ~180K - that would have been a cosmic alignment : )

Nobody called my prediction insane?

:D

Well the Flare Red gave the 3DS a 20k+ boost so your prediction isn't really crazy.

I still think it's a bit of a missed opportunity to release a pink colored 3DS without any "girls focused" software along with it. Fab Style, Style Savvy and Girls RPG are all 2012 releases :/

Go Vacation and Tetris should sell better during the weekend, as Just Dance did last week, therefore I'd not say anything about their performances so far. Anyway, I don't know about Tetris, it will be far from the DS one but it could manage some good sales (200-300k range) when it's all said and done, but probably we'll see a quite low debut. For Go Vacation, instead, the 100k should be achievable, and a start in the 30k is likely.

I'll be surprised if it does 20k-30k!

I'm all out of explanations on why 3DS sales keep going up even though software is clearly not there.

Can see Just Dance Wii selling as much as 500K this year.

Go Vacation! seems to be the kind of game that could easily do a million with the proper audience awareness. However, I doubt Namco Bandai will be aiming that high and may even undership, sadly.
