Media Create Sales: Week 47, 2011 (Nov 21 - Nov 27)

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
i'm hoping that the PSP has a swan song game a la Unite with a huge monster list. Bring back Yankuku !

There's something fun about going back and kicking the ever loving sh1t out of weak monsters. I decided to go back and hammer a 5 star dosjaggy a few nights ago just to see how quick it would be.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
What the heck happened here?!?
The thread has grown monstrously in the last hours.

DCharlie

DCCharlie was here... is all that needs to be said. I think he has a point though I disagree with his forecast.

thread was all in good spirit , i enjoyed it! :D

Well, Portable 3 was demoed with Vita controls and Portable 3 was also re-released on PS3 in Capcom-HD. Doubt the 'G' additions would be "big" news.

Now, Monster Hunter Portable 4, would be "interesting"; since many assume the Portable series is "dead" because of the 3DS game(s); but ...well, is Capcom. They'll probably re-release Resident Evil 4 first. :p
The "Portable" series is dead because there won't be any more Portable system next-gen. If Sony had named it the PlayStation Portable 2, Capcom wouldn't have done what they did.

TriG is not the G variant of Portable 3rd. TriG is the G variant of the Wii game, that only 1 million people played. ;)

As an aside: Is that generally *understood* in Japan amongst the audience? That Tri is a game that's completely distinct from Portable 3rd?

I mean, we've seen enough confusion on GAF on the subject, I wonder if that's a perception Capcom has to fight against.

This is exactly what intrigues me, I mean Portable series is the best selling MH series they have and the games that were part of it were fairly cheap to make so they probably made a lot of profit on that, so are they just going to scrap it all ? There's no need for it since really the main series is now portable.

Quietly implement the ability to drink the water, and drop the 'r' from 'portable'. Problem solved!

interestingly the main line (MH, Dos, Tri, 3G) have been/are most likely to be outsold by the "Portable" version

it's understood that Tri is not portable, yes. And by everyone. Even me, i was just getting caught up in the heat of the moment :)

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
It didn't matter who made. Square did better support on Vita than PSP on the launch term.

I dont know, especially when you consider what they already have announced for the 3DS. Though this will probably change in couple of months, when we get hopefully AAA Vita announcements. I hope they`ll also have exclusive titles and not go the FFX HD route for every big title from now on, though business wise it makes the most sense.

Predictions:

[PS3] The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda Softworks) - 45,000
[3DS] Monster Hunter 3G (Capcom) - 500,000
[3DS] Hardware (Nintendo) - 260,000

Haha, even several months after the announcements some people refuse to accept Monster Hunter on 3DS. It's like DQX on Wii, but at least we probably won't have to wait as long for it to be released.

300k first day sales, 140k second week, 40k third week, 20k for a few weeks, then bomba bucket to 800k. I should be sitting on my throne of winnage around Feb i think. Probably just around the time of the MH4th Announcement for PSP (HD for PS3/PSV).
You can start queuing for ringkissing late jan! ;)

I'll quote this post every week until January.

DCharlie underestimates the power of MH. He shall be served Crow :)

as a long runing MH fan from the very first game on PS2, and given i sit in the middle of it out here, i'm fully aware of the power of the game. I've already documented my reasons why i think the 3DS version isn't going to clean up :)

Hell, i've had random people lean over my shoulder whilst playing MH3rd on the train and spark up conversations about the game. There's definitely something that goes -beyond- the game itself. But i STILL think people are deluding themselves if they think everyone is going to wholesale migrate to 3DS at this point in time.

haha, yeah, i used to go on and on about the game - i had absolutely no idea it would explode the way it did.

I played the bejesus out of the first game - the wife (the girlfriend) and I would play online with the same two Japanese guys every night. So much fun.

It's nice playing 3rdP again - it's been difficult for us to find the time and now we have a kid, so we're usually fitting in a couple of hunts once he's asleep. :)

Don't mention that game :|. Capcom is never going to localize it and that is crazy. I wonder why Sony doesn't back them up like Nintendo did for Tri in the west , it would be pretty simple, get them to port the game to Vita release it in the West and Sony handles marketing and such...

*sigh* i guess i'll keep playing FU(still great though) >_>

MH has sold something like 5 million copies hasn't it? There is a slight difference between not expecting that entire userbase to move over and the game ending up in the bomba bin by the time it reaches 800K.

DCharlie really sacking up in here. Next few media create threads should be entertaining one way or another.

MHP3rd Has sold close to 5 million. Not every game in the series has sold that amount.

yeah, crazy they didn't localise it. Was supposed to play last night but fell asleep :/ The wife demands the hunting! ;)

It is exactly like DQX on Wii, because that will also fail to meet expectations sales-wise.

I don't think FF14 is ever coming out on anything other than the PS3.

I played it until my account got hacked , then went back when the PC version was 480 yen. Just started again but slow work.

I wonder how FFXIV PS3 will sell?
I don't think it's going to do as well as FFXI did. And I don't think DQX will do that well either. FFXIV lost its chance with a premature launch. They'll have to come up with some amazing marketing to give ver 2 a chance of survival. Meanwhile, DQX is just a terrible franchise/platform/audience mismatch.

Isn't it just an extension of the online and streetpass-esque features that DQIX used? Yes, DQ is traditionally a single player deal, but from what I've heard, it was the online features made IX into its own phenomenon in Japan, pulling in people who weren't your traditional user of online features.

I don't blame S-E for seeing if they can't convert some of these people into paying subscribers. It won't do 2 million or whatever, but it might actually do decently if they sell it right.

No, it's an MMO like FFXI, with the added option of using CPU chars for other members in your party.

I'm talking from a marketing point of view rather than a functional one. They're trying to graduate casual DQIX buyers onto a subscription model by offering a stripped down, easier to use version of a modern MMO.

It's a big gamble, but if they succeed, they'll have grown the Japanese MMO market the same way WoW did in the west. DQ is almost the perfect franchise to do it with too.

again - i'm going to be right on both. *pre-smug-victory-birdmanhandrub*

Monster Hunter success vs. failure on 3DS in general I can take or leave, but a prediction of LTD < 800k is cracktastic.

But i STILL think people are deluding themselves if they think everyone is going to wholesale migrate to 3DS at this point in time.

You can fit three Final Fantasy XIII-2s in the space between your prediction and the sales of the best-selling Monster Hunter. ;)

Because this is capcom we're talking about, I fully expect vita to eventually get some version of MH.

People need to stop using Resident Evil 4 as a stand-in for Capcom's decision-making process on every single game. Right on topic, with MH Capcom have been quite loath (wisely, IMO) at spreading the franchise around too much -- no crappy money-grab DS entry, no uprezzed PS3 port of Tri -- in fact, the only port they've released is one that specifically provides interplay capability with the important part of the series. I don't think they're going to start now on diluting the brand by whoring it out everywhere.

While they have been rather tame, Didn't they also make some sort of MH spinoff on the 360. Making an individual game from a series on 4 out of 5 current game systems seems a bit whorish.

It's hilariously bad timing that you just said this, as moments ago Monster Hunter: Dynamic Hunting was anounced as a GREE game for Android and iOS, haha. So now Monster Hunter will have appeared on PS2, PC, PSP, Wii, Random Japanese Cellphone, PS3, 3DS, Xbox 360, iOS, and Android.

I really wouldn't mind another RE 4 test on 3DS.

I don't get it, you wouldn't mind if Capcom came out and announced MH3G on Vita the day it comes out ? And how is that a test?

The situation between the GC and PS2 and the 3DS and Vita is really different though but I still don't see why you would want that to happen.
