At first i was thinking maybe the wii would overtake the PSP but with MH2G coming out i think that will make things pretty difficult.

Well, it sold 9% of the top 500's software in 2007. And it was ranked 4th out of 7 platforms. So I guess that's something. I mean, hey, at least it beat the Game Boy Advance and the PS3.

Most likely -- I was actually a bit early on this: when I first tried it, my script would barf on a few lines of the input text. Upon inspection it turned out that it was because I hadn't included GBA in the original regexp.

A few notes:

- Deadly Silence's sales have effectively doubled thanks to the Best Price release. As of the end of 2006, sales of the original version and the Best Price are almost exactly the same, separated by about 400 units in the Best Price's favor.
- Biohazard 4 is at about 522,943 on the PS2 combining both the original and budget prices.
- Combining all three versions, Biohazard 4 is at about 871,218 units (GC version at 221K according to their report when the PS2 version first came out). If Biohazard 4 Wii Edition Best Price repeats Deadly Silence and doubles the Wii Edition's cumulative total, Biohazard 4 will surpass a million in Japan.

Sonic Rush Adventure didn't make it on there. I realise Sonic doesn't sell too well in Japan, but it was released at the same time as Mario & Sonic Wii, yet didn't even reach the top 500? Yikes.

Also Castlevania X PSP did 30,000. Meanwhile according to the 2006 release... Portrait of Ruin did only 25,000. Hmm...

To be fair, Chocobo Dungeon came out in December of this year, so it's likely to have some decent sales in next year's chart. If it holds similar margins to Chocobo Tales, it'll be about 120k lifetime.

This puts things into perspective. The Wii will probably dominate the third party landscape in Japan.

Wow, the Tales games sell better on DS.

That must be the explanation to why the ports go to PSP (easy to port from PS2) and original games go to DS.

Also, 3rd party sales on consoles are lackluster, explained because the big games (in terms of sales) haven´t been released (FF, DQ, Biohazard, Tekken, Gran Turismo, Street Fighter, Kingdom Hearts, Tales series, Star Ocean, MGS); and many big 3rd party games are selling worse, like Musou games (maybe because they have released like 200 games) and Winning Eleven.

3rd parties need to make new franchises that appeal to the market... maybe the success of Professor Layton and Monster Hunter is a sign of things to come.

Maybe Inazuma Eleven is the next big hit =P. Or Monster Hunter 3 or White knight Chronicles.
