Men's Fashion |OT| Style is eternal; But my wallet isn't

I wear a tie bar with my slim ties usually. Make sure it covers between 1/2 and 2/3 of the tie's width (my ties are usually between 2.5-3").

Ok cool, I was going to get this one I presume aslong as its listed as for skinny ties it should be all good?
No luck on a new coat hunt. I feel like Im too damn picky sometimes.

Alucrid- No I left them back in the 90's where they belong!

Got my monthly pay today, which means tomorrow my autumn wardrobe will be gotten! My shopping list:
Winter shoes. Black
Longer blazer. Prefferably dark grey but dark sand would also work.
Vest. Maybe sand. Already have a dark grey vest so at least something in another color.
Turtleneck. Several colors, not brown.
Pullover. Green?
Long underwear. Color doesnt matter here lol.
Blazer. Light grey or sand.
Belt. Sand.

I have a budget of about $1000 which hopefully should suffice

Long underwear? Uniqlo heattech should suit your needs. Keeps you damn warm while not adding much bulk. Cheap too.

Man, screw jeans. Or screw my legs. Or something. I swear I'll never find a pair that actually fit my giant thighs.

levi's 505 commuters. my favourite pair. got 2% stretchy material built in.
if only i'd stocked up when it was 20 bucks clearance instead of normally 90

I rock these as well. Have 2 in indigo and 1 in grey. Water-resistant, stretchy and super-comfy.

My first pair I got when they were marked on clearance at $30, then I got my second indigo pair for $20. My grey ones were full price but since they don't even exist anymore, I ain't even mad for paying full price.

Deadly Cyclone, they still sell this although they're now known as the Levi's 504 commuters but are now $98 a pair if you're curious. And yes, even when I ask the Levi's people, they don't know why it went from 505 to 504 when it's the exact same cut.

I'm not a fan of jeans. I used to wear them exclusively back when I was sartorially challenged, but then I decided to avoid wearing jeans whenever possible and it has really forced me to expand my horizons. Whenever I wear jeans now I feel dirty, as if I had just walked into an Abercrombie store.

Exactly. 2%+ Spandex or elastane is your friend.

Never heard of but will check it out! Winter gets freezing up here in the north.

They're pretty great actually. Rather than the feel of the usual waffle-pattern long johns, these feel like deceptively thin cotton shirts/pants. Even the short-sleeved heattechs can warm you up decently against the cold or rain.

I like mine a lot and sometimes use them as pajamas during the winter.

And if you're a real out and proud slut, you can take it a step further and wear them like sweats on a more casual day. They look just like dancer's tights, but with a pouch on a front. Perfect for going out to coffee in.

To be honest, I've worn my Metal Gear Rising heattech shirt as my regular shirt. It helps that it had a print on front (the logo) and just looked normal for the most part. But for the pants, no one wants to see my Monster Hunter felynes I don't think... :p

Shirt looks like this:

Went to Liberty today and they did actually have a few pairs of N&F. Went with the soft raw skinny guy, the left hand twill were a bit hardcore for me to start with lol.

In terms of looking after them, I just shouldn't wash them for a while right?

Hmm, I'll check them out. Right now I have the Levi's 508 tapered fit and they are wearable but uncomfortable and I have to size up in the waist to get something that kind of fits my thighs. How are the 505's for fit in the thighs? How loose are they? I don't like skinny jeans either but I do want something that has a smaller leg opening. I hate boot cut (well, the typical boot cut).

Hmm, I'll check this out too. I may have to spend some cash to get something that works I guess. I usually spend $30-$60 on jeans.

Have you tried n&f power stretch?

No, the bad thing is I have no place to try these on around here. I'd have to order and try and return if needed. Also I don't think I could wear a "skinny guy" fit.

Half the issues I have are that any jeans I wear are tight enough when sitting in the thighs that as I sit, instead of pulling fabric up from the legs, it just pulls the waist down. Bothers the hell out of me. Also I hate feeling like I'm wearing spandex jeans. I want them to feel more like chinos for room when wearing, with a smaller leg opening.

The 504 (formally 505) commuters are a straight leg fit. Or, as the guy at Levi's said, it's a 501 fit but with a zipper fly rather than button fly. The material on the commuters are strange, mostly due to the coating used on them to make them water-resistant & odor resistant as water will simply bead when it hits the pants. Also, there is reinforcement in the crotch area as you can guess from the name, these are jeans for people who ride their bicycles.

You'll see more options for the 511 line, such as chinos or different colored pants, but it's slim so it's up to you to try them on.

i got fat ass quads and the 505 fits snug on me. the beauty is the stretch material, that allows for movement while giving the impression that you're wearing a slimmer cut. if you don't like the snug well... then you're gonna need a bigger cut.

they're pretty much the perfect pants for me. i do ride a bike to work. and then i hit the climbing gym afterwards. it allows movement for both and no need to change pants up. downside is i'm not sure the lifespan of the fabric treatment when i put them through the wringer like this.

the other part of the solution is to stop doing squats so i can still fit them onwards

Ordered white shoes from Asos, got navy blue ones. Going to have to go through this return process now.

At least they got my black scoop neck right.

So my APC jeans officially blew out in the crotch after a year and a half of wearing them...

I can't afford raw denim right now, does anybody know any good looking cheapish jeans I could get?

Anyone know where to get an affordable fisher net or cable (?) sweater? I'm thinking white. ASOS seems to have similar ones all crappy acrylic and I can't afford J,Crew cashmere.

I like soft microstripes and tattersall plaid. Re: colors, nothing loud or obnoxious; it's like porn, you know it when you see it. Consider getting a couple different collars (spread, point, button down), too.

Mac and I talked a bit about this, but he used strange words and has an illithidesque expensive taste.

I'm desperate to fit in and I'm in the market for a topcoat—my first ever.

I'd prefer it to be simple, at least mid-thigh length, and durable (wool?), but I'm having trouble finding things that are anywhere near a reasonable price range; the cheaper the better, but I don't have the money or the willpower to spend more than ~$250.

Some very expensive examples of the type of thing I'm looking at:

Used
- go here: http://www.haberdashboard.com/
- set max price of $250, check outwear, and search for overcoat or topcoat

New
- go to Macy's and check their London Fog collection
- go to JCP and check their Stafford collection

Look for 100% wool if possible. If not, try and find blends with a high % of wool.

So I spent the saturday creating my autumn wardrobe
Two pullovers from Stenströms
GAWisfI.jpg

AlglNrG.jpg

A blazer from SIR (bad pic I know)
KSPBJaU.jpg

A sweater from Bläck
CTNGX00.jpg

And winter shoes

All in all it cost me about $1000 which was basically exactly my budget for this endeavor.

Now I just need to figure out color on shirts to go with the pullovers.
